Chapter 402/Does He Know About Your Dead Baby?
Chapter 402
Olivia’s POV
I paused at the external threshold leading to the club’s main corridor. I automatically raised my hand, my fingers sweeping through the carefully pinned strands of my hair while my eyes scanned my reflection in the small compact mirror fished from my purse.
Even though Robert’s brutal parting words still rang viciously in my ears—how he had explicitly shattered my pride, telling me that the moment he would look at me with desire would absolutely never come I simply could not stay away.
He had ordered me to know my place as nothing more than a expendable employee who could be fired without a second thought. Yet, as long as that wretched Julie had vanished into the dark, I convinced myself that my time would come.
I slipped the mirror back into my bag, snapping the metallic clasp shut with a sharp click. I walked down the dimly lit hallway with slow, deliberate strides. As I passed the door to that cursed room Julie’s room a cold shudder rippled down my spine.
I froze for a second, my hand hovering near the dark wood as my mind forced me back to that day. It was days after her escape. I had walked in carrying heavy black trash bags, ready to clear out her clothes so we could use the space for another girl. Suddenly, Robert’s storming footsteps had shattered the quiet.
He had violently slammed the door open, his face flushed with a terrifying, suffocating rage as he loomed over me. His voice had roared, vibrating through the walls:
"What the hell are you doing here, Olivia?!"
I had swallowed hard, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the plastic bags, my voice trembling in sheer terror:
"Nothing, Sir... I am only emptying the room because Julie left and won’t return. It is much better to use it for someone else..."
He hadn’t let me finish. He stepped directly into my space, his chest nearly brushing my shoulder as his eyes blazed with pure madness, his shout shaking the very floorboards:
"Put every single inch back where it belongs right now! And don’t you dare, Olivia... don’t you ever dare touch a single thing in this room or think about stepping foot inside it again!"
I snapped back to the present with a sharp, burning gasp, shaking my head aggressively to clear the memory. Even after her escape, he loved her in the most twisted, sick way. I adjusted the lapels of my blazer with a tight, defensive pull and continued up the stairs toward his office. Standing before the massive wooden door, I raised my hand and knocked three short, rapid raps.
His deep, gravelly voice echoed from within, sending a violent flutter through my chest:
"Come in."
I turned the handle, a practiced smile automatically forming on my lips.
But the moment the door swung open, the blood instantly froze in my veins. My feet glued themselves to the threshold as if I had been struck by a sudden paralysis. It was a living nightmare.
Julie.... Julie was sitting on the leather sofa, completely alive, her fingers moving with mechanical calm as she sorted through a thick stack of papers.
I stood there entirely exposed, my jaw slack, staring at her as if a ghost had just crawled out of a fresh grave. Robert’s harsh, mocking chuckle broke the silence from behind his desk. He leaned back in his leather chair, casually twirling a silver pen between his fingers as he watched my expression collapse:
"What is wrong with you, Olivia?" He tilted his head, his dark eyes glinting. "Have you seen a ghost in my office?"
I tried to move my jaw, but my throat felt completely parched. My voice left me in a breathless, ragged whisper that barely cut the air:
"Sir... I... I came to..."
The words completely died in my throat under Julie’s unreadable, silent gaze. Robert let out a bored, heavy sigh, tossing the silver pen onto the mahogany desk with a sharp clatter. He gestured toward the hallway with a cold, dismissive wave:
"When you are actually capable of speaking normally, come back. For now, get the hell out of my office."
I spun around like a broken machine, pulling the door shut behind me with a violent tug. A wave of dizziness hit me so hard the corridor seemed to tilt. I sprinted down the hallway with frantic, shallow breaths, ducking into the adjacent staff room and slamming the door.
I leaned my entire weight against the wood, panting heavily before sliding down until I collapsed onto the nearest wooden chair. My legs could no longer support me. I rubbed my face with both hands, my skin deathly pale, as I hissed to myself:
"Oh my God... it’s really her! Julie is back!"
My fingers shook violently as I aggressively dragged my phone from my pocket. My eyes scanned the screen erratically through a blur of panic until I hit Thomas’s name. The moment the line connected, I cried out in a suffocating whisper, my free hand clutching my chest:
"Sir!.. Sir, she is back!"
Thomas’s voice came through the speaker, dry and sharp with confusion:
"Olivia... I can’t understand a single word of your babbling. Breathe and speak clearly."
I gripped the phone tighter, pressing it hard against my ear as I panted:
"Julie, Sir! Julie is back, and she is inside Mr. Robert’s office right now!"
A heavy, dead silence stretched over the line for a full second. Then, Thomas’s voice exploded with sharp shock:
"What the hell are you saying?! How did she get back, and from where?!"
I rose from the chair, pacing the small room with frantic steps.
"I have no idea, Sir! But she is here... she is inside the club right now!"
"I am currently outside the city on business," Thomas commanded, his tone dropping to a grim, urgent register. "I will get back there as fast as humanly possible."
I cut the call, dropping the phone onto the table. I buried my face in my hands, my mind on the verge of exploding. Did Robert find out about her past pregnancy? Did he know about the dead baby? Was that why she was back? The agonizing thoughts were suffocating.
I gripped the brass handle of the staff room door, cracking it open slightly to peer into the hallway. Right at that exact second, the office door opened. Julie stepped out, her features looking thoroughly exhausted.
I moved like a predator, lunging into the corridor. Before she could even register my presence, I aggressively grabbed her by the wrist, dug my fingers into her skin, and violently dragged her backward into the staff room, slamming the door shut with a loud bang.
Julie whipped around, her green eyes flashing with intense irritation. She fiercely wrenched her arm, trying to tear her wrist from my iron grip, her breathing turning sharp:
"What the hell do you think you’re doing, Olivia?! Let go of me!"
I stepped directly into her space, my face twisting with a burning, unadulterated malice as I locked my eyes onto hers. I hissed:
"Why the hell did you come back after everything that happened?!"
Julie’s lips curled into a bitter, mocking smile. She stopped resisting, letting her arm go limp as she looked at me with pure exhaustion:
"I didn’t come back by choice, Olivia."
She took a step toward the window, looking out at the bleak morning. "Robert tracked me down. He dragged me back to his hell by brute force, completely against my will."
I took a slow, highly guarded step toward her, the color entirely draining from my face as I prepared to launch the ultimate question. I leaned close, my voice dropping to a mummified, lethal whisper:
"And... does he know about your dead baby?"
