Chapter 859

Anton left his room, but because he didn’t want to stumble around like a drunken fool, he used his Telekinesis spell to levitate. The storm was extremely fierce, and the waves were gigantic. He didn’t see anyone outside. The only people he encountered were members of the ship’s crew, who would first be startled by the sight of him floating around like a ghost. After realizing who he was, they would promptly ask him to return to his room since it wasn’t safe outside.

Since there was nothing to see with the shops probably closed, and the passengers were sensibly staying in their assigned rooms, Anton returned to his without causing any further trouble.

Once he was back in his room, with nothing else to do, Anton decided to spend the time binge-watching newly released movies. When he grew tired of that, he switched to television shows. For a change of pace, he started watching legal dramas centered around ordinary issues on Earth. He decided to watch an older show called Boston Legal, and after only a few episodes, he found that he liked it a lot.

Watching stories about normal life that didn’t involve magic or the supernatural was a refreshing change of pace. It helped him relax, and it was enjoyable to laugh and get frustrated over political and social issues that no longer affected him now that he was no longer living on Earth.

Thankfully, his physical stats were high enough that he avoided getting seasick, even as the ship’s swaying grew worse by the hour. In truth, Anton wasn’t worried about getting seasick. If he ever did experience it, he could escape the situation by entering the Multiplayer mode of the Diablo II portion of his Diablo System. In that mode, his physical body was transported to the world of Sanctuary.

Anton never needed to resort to that, however. He felt perfectly fine even while focusing on movies and television shows. Whenever he got hungry, he didn’t bother calling a crew member to order food. Instead, he simply ate the meals stored in his inventory. As far as food was concerned, it made no difference to him since the meals he had stored were among the best available, and he had more than enough to last him.

The storm lasted far longer than expected. Normally, with a ship as fast as the Melinda, they would have left the storm’s area of effect within a couple of hours. However, several hours had already passed, and they were still trapped within it. That meant the storm was unusually large.

Even so, Anton felt reassured by the fact that he could not detect any trace of mana in the air. That told him that despite its ferocity, the storm was entirely natural.

Thankfully, by evening, the ship finally sailed out of the storm’s reach. Anton assumed that business aboard the ship had resumed. Having felt cooped up for several days, he decided to go outside despite the late hour.

Anton was surprised to find Paul and Eric waiting outside his door. The two looked haggard, as though they had only recently recovered from a debilitating illness.

“What happened to the two of you?”

Anton asked, and Paul simply replied, “Seasickness.”

Anton understood. The storm they had just endured had been exceptionally violent. More than likely, even experienced sailors could have suffered from seasickness under such conditions. The only reason Anton had avoided it was because of his monstrously high physical stats.

“Then why are you here instead of resting?”

“It was so boring staying in our rooms!” Eric complained.

The three decided to settle their stomachs by visiting a café and drinking tea that supposedly soothed the body. Paul and Eric had specifically come to fetch Anton since he was the reason they could enter various establishments in the Noble Section without having to pay.

Anton couldn’t help laughing when he noticed that many of the people he encountered looked like survivors of some terrible plague who had only recently recovered. Nevertheless, life had to go on, and businesses were already beginning to return to normal.

Over the next several days, Anton enjoyed spending time with Paul, Eric, and the other young people aboard the ship. The close quarters naturally brought them closer together.

The curious thing was that no other noble or wealthy youths joined their group. They already had their own social circles. In truth, Anton was the unusual one because, despite being one of the more important young men aboard the ship, he preferred the company of commoners.

Even the children of the fat merchant Anton had spoken with at the beginning of the voyage avoided him because they looked down on the company he kept.

Eventually, Anton shared one of his talents with his new friends. During one of their gatherings on a deck in the Middle Section, he retrieved the guitar he hadn’t touched in a long time and introduced them to the glory of Earth’s music, translated perfectly into the local language by his Diablo System.

After he sang a few songs, several girls began looking at him with starry eyes, which he deliberately ignored. He had no desire to start anything with them. The girls in their group seemed respectable, and he had no interest in pursuing a casual fling.

To Anton’s surprise, Eric turned out to be a talented singer as well. Anton taught him several songs from Earth, and Eric performed them admirably. Admittedly, Anton remained the best singer among them, and everyone told him he could easily make a living as a bard if he ever needed to. Anton replied that many people had already told him the same thing, and his deliberately boastful attitude caused everyone to laugh.

Paul once told Anton that the group liked him because, despite being a powerful wizard and a noble, he was as down-to-earth as anyone could be. Anton reminded them that before becoming a mage, he had simply been a farmer’s son. Deep down, he never truly felt like a noble. Even the four young men from New Drennor whom he had hired as the family’s wizards behaved more arrogantly than he did.

When Anton’s next multiplayer gaming session with his father and sister arrived, they finally reached the mid-nineties in level. At that point, the only meaningful activity left was farming for equipment, but in truth, they already possessed most of the items they wanted.

Because of that, Anders told Anton that they would return to gathering in the Multiplayer mode of his Diablo System at the end of the month unless any major changes occurred.

Anton had a feeling that his system would not provide any updates. The next ladder season was scheduled to begin in only a few weeks. If there were any major changes coming, he believed his Diablo System would have informed him by then.

Thankfully, around three days before the start of the ladder season, his Diablo System delivered a major update through the familiar red mail notification.

Anton excitedly opened the message and discovered that his father and sister would be allowed to join him in the new ladder season.

The update informed Anton that those to whom he had granted access to the Multiplayer mode of his Diablo II System could now enter the game and create or join ladder games even without his presence. His Diablo System had effectively fulfilled both of their requests at once: allowing his father and sister to participate in ladder seasons and granting them independent access to Multiplayer mode.

Aside from the original multiplayer characters they had already created, they would need to create new characters specifically for the ladder season. Unlike Anton, who could create every Diablo II class during a ladder season, they would each be limited to creating only a single ladder character.
