Anton was informed by one of the ship's crew that the voyage across the ocean would last another nine or ten months, depending on the circumstances they encountered along the way.
In truth, Anton was growing tired and bored. He wished he could use his Town Portal Scroll to return to the Rose Manor while the ship was sailing. Unfortunately, based on his extensive experimentation, the scrolls could not be used aboard a moving vehicle.
He was grateful that he still had access to Earth's internet. Otherwise, he would have been bored out of his mind. Anton knew that his friends had begun memorizing the spells contained in the spellbooks he had given Paul and Eric as compensation for serving as his guides aboard the ship. They simply needed something to occupy themselves, even though none of them were certain whether becoming novice mages would have any effect on their chances of joining the magical organizations in Izmorta.
Based on everything he had heard regarding the admission requirements and the process known as Rebirth, there was a good chance that Anton's friends were simply wasting their time.
Anton had long accepted that he might lose his wizardly attainments. In truth, however, he barely had any. His magical aptitude and wizardry rank were entirely products of the power granted by his Diablo System. He had memorized only a handful of standard spells that he thought might prove useful, and the total number was fewer than ten.
Even though Anton was confident that the Rebirth process wouldn't affect the part of his mind connected to the Diablo System, he couldn't help but worry a little. His entire identity in this world revolved around that system.
The next Diablo Ladder Season would begin in another six to eight months. He would still be aboard the ship when it started, and with virtually nothing else to do, he was certain he could level his Diablo characters to the maximum long before the season ended.
If that happened, he would continue leveling additional characters to become as powerful as possible before reaching Izmorta. Every item and attribute he transferred from the game into reality would further increase his strength.
Anton was thankful that Anna had discovered the loophole in the Diablo System that allowed them to create additional ladder characters by deleting ones they had already completed. The best part was that the transferred attributes and items remained even after the characters were deleted.
During the next four months, Anton embraced the life of a true otaku. He rarely left his room and only spent time with his friends once or twice a week. Thankfully, Paul, Eric, and the others didn't mind, since they were all busy pursuing their own magical studies.
The moment everyone successfully learned their first cantrips, their motivation soared. Many became determined to memorize more spells, and some even complained that their parents had prevented them from becoming mages sooner simply because they wanted their children to become Izmortan wizards.
Anton chose not to tell them that they might be wasting their efforts. According to everything he had learned, the Rebirth process would likely erase all of the magical progress they had made before joining the magical organizations in Izmorta.
On the other hand, a few of Anton's friends had no intention of joining those organizations. They were delighted simply to discover that they could become mages. They openly declared that they intended to continue advancing their wizardry ranks before eventually returning to Ormunda after reaching Izmorta.
Fortunately, returning home would become much easier. Once Ormunda's wizards reached Izmorta, they planned to establish a portal network linking the two continents.
Anton didn't know whether the Izmortan Wizards would object to such an undertaking, but that wasn't his problem to solve, so he didn't concern himself with it.
Thankfully, because his Town Portal Scrolls lasted for two weeks, the twenty-five scrolls his family supplied to Ormunda each month were sufficient to establish the initial portal network.
Even if Ormunda wanted more portals, everyone already knew that Anton could create only thirty Town Portal Scrolls each month, five of which his family always kept for themselves.
While Anton was thinking about the limited number of Town Portal Scrolls he could bring out of the game, his Diablo System suddenly sent him a notification that immediately caught his attention.
The Diablo System only notified him whenever it underwent a significant change.
When he read the notification, he discovered that the change wasn't particularly major, but it was related to Town Portal Scrolls.
His Diablo System would now allow him to transfer one Tome of Town Portal every day. A Tome of Town Portal contained twenty Town Portal Scrolls bound together into a single book.
In other words, Anton could now transfer twenty Town Portal Scrolls from the game into reality every single day.
He was about to contact his father immediately to tell him the good news, but then remembered that their monthly meeting would take place the following day. He decided it could wait until then.
When the next day arrived, Anton met with his father and his sister through the Multiplayer feature for their monthly gathering.
Anna admitted that she was a little sad she could no longer meet her online friends. Once the Diablo II Ladder Season had ended, the Multiplayer option had reverted to its original state, allowing only Anton and Anders to join her games.
Anton thought it was for the best. Anna should have friends in the real world rather than online friends from Earth. Besides, another Ladder Season would begin in a few months, allowing her to reunite with them again.
During their conversation, Anders and Anna told Anton that very little had changed in their lives. Everything had remained much the same over the past few months.
Anders had resumed delving into high-level dungeons. Since he intended to become the leader—or perhaps even the king—of Oakswood, he needed to accumulate considerable wealth, and the fastest way to do so was by collecting mana stones.
The good thing was that Anders had become incredibly powerful. He could now clear the deeper floors of high-level dungeons alone, allowing him to keep all of the monster loot for himself.
Anna had also been exploring high-level dungeons by herself twice each month. She had grown significantly stronger and was steadily earning a reputation as one of the most talented sorceresses to graduate from her magical academy.
Anna proudly declared to Anton that once she graduated and became a Divine Wizard, she would rank among Ormunda's greatest magical authorities.
Unlike Anton, Anna's identity remained firmly rooted in the magical world. The Diablo System he had shared with her was merely an extraordinarily powerful support system that accelerated her growth as a wizard.
After Anders and Anna had finished sharing their updates, Anton finally told them about the Tome of Town Portal.
The advantage of all three of them being Diablo II players was that Anton only needed to mention the item's name for both his father and sister to understand its significance immediately.
Anders was delighted by the news. Ever since the family had begun giving twenty-five of Anton's thirty monthly Town Portal Scrolls to Ormunda, the remaining five had barely been enough for the family's own needs.
Anton told his father that he would leave it to Anders to decide whether to share the information with Ormunda.
Anders simply nodded.
Anton knew his father had numerous long-term plans. Since Anders intended to become the leader—or perhaps even the king—of Oakswood, strategic resources such as Town Portal Scrolls would become invaluable assets in achieving that goal.
