Chapter 128: Ancient Ginkgo Tree
Remembering the stories his cheap master had told him and seeing that the Ancient Ginkgo Tree showed absolutely no intention of attacking him, BlessedByRNG immediately shamelessly took advantage of the opportunity and established a relationship with it.
It was only thanks to this that he had managed to survive long enough to reach the marketplace’s opening time.
The Ancient Ginkgo Tree had lived for countless years.
It had once been struck by lightning while standing inside the temple and yet somehow survived.
Dead branches had produced new shoots and brought it back to life.
After the arrival of the apocalypse, it had undergone another complete transformation.
Perhaps because it had listened to generations of the temple priests preaching and discussing the Dao, it had long accepted the identity of being part of the temple itself.
Compared to most other plants, it was also far better at understanding human speech.
Now, after hearing BlessedByRNG’s request, it did not hesitate in the slightest.
The moment an opening appeared between the attacking branches, it immediately swung one of its own branches and hurled the Molotov Cocktail directly toward the enemy mutated plant’s main body.
BlessedByRNG stared nervously.
He had no idea whether it would actually work.
Fortunately, fear of fire was instinctive for plants.
The enemy’s branches began to thrash even more violently than before.
However, this time they were no longer focused on attacking BlessedByRNG or the Ancient Ginkgo Tree inside the temple grounds.
Instead, they desperately tried to extinguish the flames.
BlessedByRNG’s eyes immediately lit up. "Martial Uncle, throw this one at the area where its branches are thickest!"
The Ancient Ginkgo Tree obediently followed his instructions.
Watching the flames spread across the enemy’s body, however, it could not help feeling somewhat wary.
In its memories, only heavenly disasters could create such terrifying scenes.
Yet the young man before it had been completely helpless only moments ago.
Otherwise, he would never have needed the Ancient Ginkgo Tree to save him.
Now, however, he had suddenly produced these strange objects.
The whole situation felt extremely suspicious.
Had he somehow reported the matter to Heaven and requested reinforcements?
But it had not seen him draw any talismans.
BlessedByRNG naturally had no idea what the Ancient Ginkgo Tree was thinking.
His palm clenched tightly around the earth bomb, already drenched in sweat.
These strange plant creatures possessed astonishing vitality.
Earlier, the Ancient Ginkgo Tree had severed many of its branches during battle, yet they had regrown shortly afterward.
BlessedByRNG was genuinely worried that even fire would fail to kill it.
Still, even if it survived, it would surely suffer severe damage.
By then, the Ancient Ginkgo Tree should have recovered enough strength to attack once more.
If he buried the earth bomb beneath its roots after that...
As BlessedByRNG carefully considered his plan, the towering flames illuminated the monster’s appearance.
It was actually dodder.
At that moment, BlessedByRNG finally understood why it had remained outside the temple attacking nonstop without ever retreating.
It had probably set its sights on the Ancient Ginkgo Tree.
The Ancient Ginkgo Tree had nearly exhausted all of its energy during the battle, yet the dodder still appeared incredibly energetic.
Earlier, BlessedByRNG had wondered how it could possibly be so powerful.
Now he finally understood.
This cunning and sinister monster had probably already parasitized other plants long ago, allowing them to continuously supply it with energy.
No wonder the disturbance around the temple had become so large without attracting other plants hoping to compete for territory.
Earlier, whenever BlessedByRNG fought zombies, he would often attract even more zombies to the area, giving him opportunities to manipulate the chaos and survive through clever positioning.
This time, however, no such reinforcements had ever appeared.
Under these circumstances, there were probably still other plants feeding energy into the dodder.
If that was true, it might really survive after all.
BlessedByRNG knocked hard against his own head. "Think of something. Come on, think of something! We absolutely can’t let it recover! Move, brain, move already!"
BlessedByRNG was practically on the verge of tears.
Because his luck had always been absurdly good in the past, he had never developed the habit of thinking things through carefully.
No matter what happened, events would always somehow develop in a direction favorable to him.
But clearly, even good luck had its limits.
The problem was that he had gone so long without using his brain that it felt as though it had already rusted over.
He anxiously paced around in circles.
Seeing the flames gradually beginning to weaken, he immediately panicked.
The Ancient Ginkgo Tree still hadn’t recovered yet.
Otherwise, with such a perfect opportunity right in front of it, it would never have simply stood there watching.
It would have already used its abilities.
If the enemy recovered before then, he really would be finished.
Should he just take advantage of this opportunity and run away?
The thought suddenly surfaced in BlessedByRNG’s mind.
He glanced around at the ruins surrounding him that could no longer provide any protection whatsoever.
Then his eyes suddenly stopped at the corner of the wall.
Pine needles?!
BlessedByRNG’s eyes lit up with excitement. "Martial Uncle, throw all the pine needles from the firewood pile over there at it! Throw the firewood too!"
The pine needles were dry fallen pine leaves that ignited extremely easily.
Inside the temple, they had always been the best material for starting fires, so a considerable amount had been stored away.
Unfortunately, most of the pine needles left outside had already been soaked by the rain and could no longer be used.
However, the ones stored inside the kitchen remained perfectly dry.
The Ancient Ginkgo Tree immediately took action.
With the addition of the tinder, the flames suddenly surged upward.
The fire exploded in intensity like oil being poured onto burning flames, staining half the sky red.
The Ancient Ginkgo Tree still refused to stop adding fuel to the fire.
It hurled every piece of chopped and unchopped wood it could find into the inferno.
