Chapter 40: Police Cars Dispatched
(Second update of the day is here, asking for recommendation votes!)
"Hello! Second Aunt!" Ye Xing answered the call and put the phone to his ear.
"Hello! Axing, I sent you last month’s money. Did you get it?" His second aunt’s voice came through the phone, mixed with the sounds of chattering and beeping. It sounded noisy and bustling wherever she was.
"Oh, I got it." A thought struck Ye Xing, and he asked, "Second Aunt, where are you right now? Why is it so noisy in the background?"
"I’m at the South Gate Passenger Station. I had some free time today, so I met up with a few friends in the county for a round of mahjong. I’m getting ready to head back now."
"Oh, you’re going back to Bilin Village too! In that case, Second Aunt, let me give you a ride. I just bought a car today," Ye Xing said immediately.
"Sure! Axing, you have a car now? That’s great!" his aunt, Ye Xiuying, said with a laugh. "Then I won’t buy a bus ticket. Oh, right, I have two friends with me. So that’s three of us in total. Do you have room?"
"There’s room. The car’s empty, so there’s plenty of space. Alright, Second Aunt, just wait for me at the South Gate Passenger Station. I’ll be right there!"
After hanging up, Ye Xing hurried to the underground parking garage, got into his Porsche 911, and sped toward the South Gate Passenger Station.
Ice Sea New City was very close to the South Gate Passenger Station, only a few minutes’ drive away.
At that moment, the South Gate Passenger Station in Luoxian County was packed with buses. Vehicles came and went as buses constantly pulled into the station while others departed one by one for their various destinations.
Inside the station, crowds of people carrying large and small bags of luggage jostled against one another.
Among them, three middle-aged women in their forties were standing at the main entrance, waiting for someone. One of them was, of course, Ye Xiuying. The other two were Xi Lanfang and a rather chubby woman, both of whom were from the same village.
"Hey, Xiuying, who did you say is giving us a ride back?" Xi Lanfang asked curiously.
"My nephew, Ye Xing," Ye Xiuying said with a smile.
"Ye Xing?" Xi Lanfang was taken aback for a moment. "He has a car? Isn’t he a street vendor? The last time I saw him, we were on the same bus."
"Nonsense. What street vendor? My Axing makes one or two hundred thousand a month now," Ye Xiuying said.
"One or two hundred thousand? A month?" Xi Lanfang exclaimed in shock. "How is that possible!"
"Why would it be impossible? You know how booming business is at my Auntie Pang’s Snack Shop." Ye Xiuying lifted her chin proudly. "That’s all thanks to Axing. Our Axing cultivated..."
"Hey, Axing’s car is here!" Ye Xiuying pointed ahead. At the traffic light at the intersection up ahead, several cars were approaching. Among them was a black Porsche 911.
"Where? Which one?" Xi Lanfang asked hurriedly.
"Are you blind? The black one!" Ye Xiuying said.
"The black one? That’s a Porsche 911. Xiuying, you must be seeing things," Xi Lanfang said, speechless.
"I don’t know about any ’Porsche 911’, but that’s Axing’s car. He told me on the phone it was black, and that’s the license plate."
"Pfft. Xiuying, you’re definitely mistaken. I know more about cars than you do. Do you have any idea how much a Porsche 911 costs?" Xi Lanfang scoffed. Just as she was speaking...
Suddenly—
SCREECH! The sound of brakes squealed as the black Porsche 911 pulled to a stop in front of the three women.
"Second Aunt, Aunt Xi, Aunt Zhang, get in!" The window rolled down, and Ye Xing poked his head out.
"Wow, Axing, this car is beautiful! It’s so new," Ye Xiuying and Aunt Zhang said as they immediately opened the doors and got in.
"It... It... It really is Ye Xing!" Xi Lanfang was completely dumbfounded. When she came to her senses, she quickly opened a door and got in too.
"Axing, this car seems really high-end. It must have been expensive, right?" the heavyset Aunt Zhang asked, reaching out to gently touch the leather seat.
"Yeah, it’s alright. A little bit expensive," Ye Xing replied casually as he started driving.
"A little bit expensive?! Ye Xing, this is a Porsche 911, isn’t it!" Xi Lanfang couldn’t help but shriek. "It must cost one or two million, right?"
"Yep, exactly two million," Ye Xing said nonchalantly.
"What? Two million?!" This time it was Ye Xiuying’s turn to be stunned.
"Ye Xing, where did you get that kind of money?" Xi Lanfang’s eyes were shining. "Even if the grass carp at your aunt’s shop are yours, and you really make over a hundred thousand a month, that’s not enough to buy this Porsche! Did you take out a loan?"
"Paid in full," Ye Xing said calmly. "The grass carp I give my aunt are actually the Immortal Flavor Old Fish. You go to Luoxian County often, you should have heard of them, right?"
"Immortal Flavor Old Fish!! What? You’re the supplier for Immortal Flavor Old Fish?"
Xi Lanfang was utterly dumbfounded.
...
On the wide road, cars and trucks drove past.
The Porsche 911 was truly a great car with excellent performance, but Ye Xing wasn’t driving fast. He had gotten his driver’s license last year and hadn’t touched a car in almost a year, so he needed to get used to it again. As a result, he drove at a normal speed, but very steadily.
As he was driving, a series of sounds suddenly came from behind them.
WEE-OO... WEE-OO... WEE-OO!
WEE-OO! WEE-OO, WEE-OO!
The sound grew louder as it approached, seeming to be the wail of police sirens.
Ye Xing couldn’t help but glance at his rearview mirror. He saw eight or nine police cars with red and blue lights flashing on their roofs, speeding toward them.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
The police cars were driving urgently, as if in pursuit of something. In an instant, they overtook Ye Xing’s car and sped off ahead.
"What’s going on? Why are there so many police cars?" Ye Xiuying couldn’t help but ask.
"Yeah, you rarely see so many police cars dispatched at once!" Xi Lanfang added curiously.
’It looks like those police cars are heading toward our village! What on earth happened?’ A thought struck Ye Xing. He immediately turned on the car radio and tuned it to Luoxian County’s local broadcast station.
A news bulletin immediately came on.
"This is a recent report from our station: At 4:31 PM today, a group robbery occurred at the Luoxian County Merchants Bank. A total of eleven assailants attacked the bank, stealing several million RMB. Seven of the assailants were killed at the scene, and three remaining criminals have fled toward the Lorin Road and Bilin Village area. Police are in full pursuit. The fugitives are armed. We urge all nearby residents to be extremely cautious and ensure their safety. If you see any suspicious individuals, please report them to the police immediately to provide information that may lead to their swift arrest."
"Doesn’t that mean it’s really dangerous near Bilin Village right now?" Xi Lanfang said nervously.
"Oh no, my house is right at the entrance to the village. I hope nothing bad happens," Aunt Zhang said, her face fraught with worry.
"Axing, why did the robbers flee to our village?" asked Ye Xiuying.
"I don’t know. Let’s go back and see!" A determined look flashed in Ye Xing’s eyes. He slammed on the accelerator, and the Porsche 911’s speed shot up as it raced forward.
