Chapter 71: [72]: Final Bracket Set, The S-Rank Reveal*
Day Seven. Arena. Morning.
Twenty competitors had been cut to eight. The amphitheater felt different now. Smaller. The stone seats held only the remaining competitors, their primaries, and the judges. M stood on the central platform. White robes. Ageless. Those color-shifting eyes sweeping the bracket displayed on the screen behind her.
"The final Challenge. Head to head. Single elimination. Each round tests something different. Winner advances. Loser goes home."
```
[QUARTERFINALS:]
[Match 1: Marcus Cole vs. Competitor 8]
[Match 2: Lucas Wright vs. Alexandru Popescu]
[Match 3: Chen Wei vs. Competitor 6]
[Match 4: Competitor 4 vs. Competitor 5]
[SEMIFINALS: Winners advance]
[FINAL: Last two standing]
```
Match 1. Marcus Cole vs. Competitor 8.
Marcus dismantled him in four minutes. The test was a debate. Verbal sparring. Marcus was faster. Sharper. More ruthless. His opponent stammered. Lost composure. Crumbled. Marcus didn’t even smile when he won. Just sat back down and checked his watch.
He’s bored. Forty women. Three championships. He’s not here to win. He’s here because winning is all he knows.
Match 2. Lucas vs. Alexandru Popescu.
Alexandru was big. Romanian. Mid-thirties. Heavy jaw. Thick hands. The build of someone who wrestled bears for sport. He sat across from Lucas on the platform and smiled like he wanted to break something.
The test: a neutral target. A Summit staff member. She had been instructed to resist both competitors equally. Each man had five minutes to make her choose him.
Alexandru went first. Charm and presence. Leaning in. Touching her hand. Deep voice. Confident posture. The target wavered but didn’t choose.
Lucas’s turn.
He sat across from her. She was tired. Mid-thirties. Professional smile hiding something heavy.
He activated Desire Vision. Brief. Two seconds. Just enough.
Floating text appeared above her head: I just want someone to ask about Maria. Nobody asks about Maria.
"Who’s Maria?" he asked.
The target’s face changed. The professional mask cracked. "My daughter. She’s six. I haven’t seen her in two years because of this job."
"Two years."
"I send money. I call on Sundays. But I haven’t held her since she was four." Her eyes were wet. "Nobody here asks about her. Nobody here even knows her name."
"I’m asking."
The target chose him. Not because of charm. Because he asked about Maria.

[QUARTERFINAL RESULT]
[Match 2: WIN]
[Method: Genuine connection + Desire Vision (brief)]
[Advancing to semifinals]
[TP: +15]
[NOTE: "You used the ability to find the
question. She answered because you
actually listened. There’s a lesson
in that, Master."]
```
Alexandru stood. Glared. Walked off. His companion, a quiet Eastern European woman, followed without looking back.
Semifinal. Lucas vs. Chen Wei.
Chen Wei. Chinese. Forties. Quiet. Three women in his collection. All devoted. All genuine. He was the only competitor besides Lucas whose companion seemed real.
The test was different.
"Each competitor’s primary partner will be interviewed about their deepest fear regarding the relationship. The competitor must then address that fear. Live. In front of the audience."
Elena on stage. In front of strangers. Again.
Judge: "What is your deepest fear regarding your relationship with Lucas?"
Elena sat straight. Steel-gray eyes steady. But her hands were in her lap. Fingers laced together. White knuckles.
"That I’m not enough. That he’ll keep collecting women until I’m one of ten. One of twenty. A name on a list." Her voice didn’t crack. Elena Vance didn’t crack. "That the man who made me feel alive will make me feel invisible instead."
She knows the shape of her fear. And she just said it out loud. In front of everyone.
Lucas stood. Crossed to her. The audience watched.
"Elena. You’re not a name on a list. You’re the list. You’re the paper it’s written on. You’re the pen." He stepped closer. "Every woman I’ve been with since you, I’ve measured them against you. Not in looks. Not in sex. In how they make me feel. And none of them makes me feel like I’m home the way you do."
"That’s just words."
"Then let me make it actions. After this Summit, I’m paring back. Not ending things. But refocusing. On you. On us. On making sure you never feel like a name on a list."
Elena’s eyes filled. She didn’t cry. Ice Queens don’t cry in public. But she nodded. And her hand reached for his.
[SEMIFINAL RESULT]
[Match: WIN]
[Method: Genuine emotional declaration]
[Advancing to FINAL]
[TP: +25 (emotional milestone)]
[NOTE: "She didn’t cry. But she almost
did. That’s worth more than any
taming percentage, Master."]
```
Chen Wei approached afterward. Quiet. Respectful.
"Your woman is genuine," he said. "Rare. Treasure that."
"I will."
Chen Wei nodded and walked away. His three companions waited at the edge of the arena. One took his hand. Real. Devoted. Lucas felt a pang of respect.
The final.
M appeared on stage. The room went silent.
"The final test. Each competitor will face the S-Rank target."
The room inhaled.
"She will choose one of you. Not both. One. She will decide who is worthy of her attention. One hour each. Tomorrow morning."
The S-Rank. The one the System can’t scan. The one who smiled at me across the hall. She’s going to choose between me and Marcus Cole.
```
[⚠️⚠️⚠️ MAXIMUM ALERT ⚠️⚠️⚠️]
[S-RANK TARGET: FINAL TEST]
[⚠️ System CANNOT scan this target.]
[⚠️ System CANNOT assess weakness.]
[⚠️ System CANNOT predict behavior.]
[⚠️ Abilities may have NO EFFECT.]
[This is a BLIND encounter.]
[The System is useless here.]
[YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, MASTER.]
[...good luck.]
```
The System is useless. My abilities might not work. Everything I’ve built, every stat, every trick the System gave me, might mean nothing against her.
Lucas stared at the stage. Marcus Cole stared back from across the arena. The champion. Three-time winner. Eighteen-minute endurance. Forty women.
And above them, on the upper balcony, the S-Rank watched. Gray-green-gold eyes shifting in the morning light. That smile. The one that said she had already decided.
Elena found him. Took his hand.
"You can do this."
She didn’t know what he was about to say. She just believed in him.
"You can do this because you’re YOU. Not because of whatever makes you different. Because of what makes you Lucas."
Marcus approached. Stopped three feet away. Gray eyes. That practiced smile.
"Tomorrow, Wright. You and me. And her." He looked toward the balcony. "May the best man win."
"She’s not a prize."
"No." Marcus tilted his head. "She’s a judge. That’s worse." He extended his hand. "No hard feelings. Whoever wins."
Lucas shook it. Firm. Dry.
"Whoever wins."
Marcus walked away. Elena’s grip tightened on his hand.
"What did he mean, she’s a judge?"
"I don’t know."
"Liar."
"I don’t know the specifics. But I know tomorrow is going to be the hardest thing I’ve ever done."
She pulled him toward the exit. "Then we prepare. Together. Like always."
They walked through the tropical heat. Palm fronds casting shadows. The ocean glittering beyond the compound. Tomorrow, the S-Rank. Tomorrow, everything.
Elena stopped. Turned to him.
"Lucas."
"Yeah?"
"Whatever happens tomorrow. Whatever she is. Whatever she wants from you.". "You come back to me."
"Always."
"Promise me."
"I promise."
She kissed him. Hard. In the middle of the path. Where anyone could see. Where the S-Rank could see from her balcony.
Mine. This one is mine. Whatever you are, whatever you want, whatever test you’re running. He’s mine. I was here first. I’ll be here last. Try me.
She pulled back. Straightened her spine. Lifted her chin.
