Chapter 63: [64]: Authenticity Score 92.5, The Bond Test Stage
Day Two. Morning. Competition Arena.
The arena was an amphitheater. Open-air. Tropical. Stone seating arranged in a semicircle around a central platform. Like a coliseum for the emotionally intimate.
Morning sun filtered through palm fronds. Salt breeze carried the smell of jasmine. Birds sang in the jungle canopy. Beautiful setting for psychological vivisection.
Lucas sat in the competitor section. Elena beside him. Her hand in his. Steel-gray eyes fixed on the stage.
```
[BOND TEST FORMAT]
[Each collector’s primary companion
is interviewed on stage.]
[Questions about relationship, surrender,
devotion. Three judges (faces obscured)
evaluate authenticity and depth.]
[RISK: Elena does NOT know about System.
She cannot reveal what she doesn’t know.
However, descriptions of the relationship
may reference unusual intensity.]
[These descriptions are SUBJECTIVE. Interpreted as genuine emotional experience.]
[RISK LEVEL: LOW]
```
She can’t reveal the System. But she might describe how it feels. The electric touch. The amplified attraction. Those feelings are real to her. Even if the System caused them.
---
Other Competitors’ Bonds.
Lucas watched. The pattern was concerning.
First collector. A man in his forties. Polished. European. His companion walked on stage. Tall. Blonde. Beautiful. She recited devotion like a script.
"He is my sun. My moon. My everything. I exist to serve."
Rehearsed. Empty. The words had the emotional depth of a coupon insert. The judges scored her low. Authenticity detected as false.
Second collector. His companion was clearly terrified. She talked about her "Master" with the blank compliance of someone who had been broken, not loved. Her eyes were glass. Her voice was flat. The judges scored moderate but one judge’s hand trembled.
Even these people have limits.
Then Marcus Cole’s turn.
His companion walked on stage. Tall. Blonde. Model-beautiful. Every gesture choreographed. Every word calculated. She spoke about devotion with practiced eloquence. The audience leaned in. Impressed.
The judges scored high. But there was hesitation. Something under the surface that the performance couldn’t hide. Perfect delivery. Zero substance.
She sounds like a TED talk about love. Technically correct. Emotionally bankrupt. Is this what Marcus does? Collects women and scripts them? Forty women, all reciting the same lines?
```
[COMPETITOR BOND ANALYSIS]
[Marcus Cole’s companion:
[Presentation: 95/100]
[Authenticity: 41/100]
[Emotional depth: 38/100]
[Score: 93.2 (Performance carries)]
[NOTE: "Judges scored high but hesitated.
They FEEL the difference between
performance and reality. So can you."]
```

Elena’s Turn.
She stood. Straightened her spine. Lifted her chin. Ice Queen at maximum power.
She walked onto the stage like she owned it. Because Elena Vance walked onto every stage like she owned it. Black dress. Platinum hair.
My girlfriend is about to talk about our sex life in front of fifty strangers. She’s going to be incredible. She’s also going to kill me later for making her do this.
Judge 1: "State your name and relationship to your collector."
"I’m Elena Vance. Lucas Wright is my partner. Not my collector. My partner."
A murmur from the audience. Elena didn’t flinch.
Judge 2: "Describe the nature of your bond."
"We’re in love. He’s nineteen. I’m forty-two. He lives in my apartment building. I was his landlady before I was his lover. It’s complicated and messy and real."
Judge 3: "You surrendered to him?"
"I chose him. There’s a difference." Her voice was ice and fire. "Surrender implies I lost something. I didn’t lose anything. I gained everything. I was frozen. Living in a building I owned, sleeping in a bed I bought, eating meals I cooked for one. And then this ridiculous boy with messy hair and a fake sink leak walked into my life and made me feel again."
She’s describing exactly what happened to her. And what happened to her was real.
Judge 1: "Does he control you?"
"No."
Judge 2: "Does he own you?"
"No." A pause. "I own myself. I chose to be with him. I choose every day. If I stopped choosing, I’d leave."
Judge 3: "But you call him Master."
Silence. The audience leaned forward.
Elena’s jaw tightened. "In private. In intimate moments. Because I chose to. Because it represents trust, not ownership. He didn’t demand it. I offered it. There’s a world of difference."
She’s incredible. She’s standing on a stage in front of strangers talking about our most intimate moments and she’s making it sound like the most natural thing in the world. Because to her, it is.
The judges conferred. Whispers behind obscured faces.
```
[BOND TEST — ELENA VANCE]
[Authenticity: 94/100]
[Depth of Connection: 91/100]
[Voluntary Surrender: 97/100]
[Emotional Health: 88/100]
[TOTAL: 92.5/100]
[CURRENT RANKING: 2nd Place
(1st: Marcus Cole’s companion — 93.2)]
```
Second place. Behind Marcus by less than a point. Without anything but genuine emotion and the force of her personality.
---
Elena Off-Stage.
She walked back to Lucas. Face composed. Hands shaking.
"I just talked about our sex life in front of fifty strangers."
"You were incredible."
"I was humiliated."
"You were incredible AND humified. They’re not mutually exclusive."
"That’s not a word."
"It should be." He took her shaking hands. Kissed them. "You scored second. Behind Marcus by a point. And you did it by being honest."
"Marcus’s woman scored higher?"
"Marcus’s woman performed. You were real. The judges felt it."
"They felt it?"
"One of their hands trembled."
She stared at him. Then laughed. Short. Exhausted. Genuine.
"Fine. Second place. For now." Her eyes hardened. "What’s next?"
```
[SUMMIT STANDINGS (After Bond Test)]
[1st: Marcus Cole — 93.2]
[2nd: Lucas Wright — 92.5]
[3rd: Alexandru Popescu — 87.0]
[4th: Chen Wei — 85.5]
[GAP: 0.7 points behind Marcus]
[NOTE: "She beat every other competitor
by 5+ points. Only Marcus’s rehearsed
performance edged her out. The Challenge
and New Conquest categories will
determine the final winner."]
```
The Challenge begins tomorrow. Tests of charisma, seduction, endurance, and reading. His abilities would be critical. But also dangerous. If anyone noticed supernatural precision...
Tomorrow I prove I’m more than a lucky boyfriend with a honest partner. Tomorrow I prove I can compete.
---
Marcus Cole Approached.
That practiced smile. Gray eyes. Impeccable suit. He moved through the crowd like a knife through silk.
"Your woman is remarkable, Wright. Genuine. Authentic." He looked at Elena with something approaching respect. "Rare in this crowd."
"She’s not my woman. She’s my partner."
"Of course." He nodded. "The Challenge begins tomorrow. I’d rest up if I were you. Last year’s Challenge broke three competitors. Physically." He walked away.
Elena watched him go. "I don’t like him."
"You’ve said that."
"I’ll keep saying it."
He turned back. "Lucas. One more thing."
"Yes?"
"Your girl said she chose you. That she wasn’t surrendered. That’s beautiful. Truly." His smile didn’t reach his eyes. "But the Summit tests more than words. Tomorrow, we’ll see if the choice holds under pressure."
He disappeared into the crowd.
Elena’s hand found Lucas’s. Squeezed.
"What did he mean by that?"
"I don’t know."
"Liar."
"I don’t know the specifics. But I know it won’t be pleasant."
She was quiet. Then: "Prove it tomorrow. Whatever they throw at us. Prove that what we have is real."
"So are you." He kissed her knuckles. "So are we."
```
"She told the truth up there, Master.
And it scored higher than almost
every performance in this arena.
Remember that. Truth wins."
```
