Chapter 749 - 500: Ningning, Your Task Now Is to Have a Baby
As she walked out of the study, Jiangg Ning felt the whole thing was utterly ridiculous. Jiangg Ruxue’s "heart-to-heart" lecture had been completely illogical, and she couldn’t agree with any of it.
As she walked, she replayed her mother’s words in her mind, and the more she thought about them, the more absurd they seemed.
’This whole business of sleeping together... What’s the big rush? And the consequences wouldn’t even be that serious. She’s more worked up about it than we are.’
Besides, Jiangg Ruxue had no idea about the intricacies of their three-person relationship.
Under normal circumstances, if two people’s feelings for each other had developed to that point and they both felt ready, Jiangg Ning wasn’t so old-fashioned and prudish that she’d insist on "saving herself" and never let Chen Yuan touch her.
Even now, she and Chen Yuan were physically intimate, just not all the way. When he had made certain requests in the past, she had only hesitated for a moment before fulfilling them. A healthy relationship, after all, involves physical contact. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.
Neither of them had any issues with the way things were.
Chen Yuan was a gentleman and was very respectful of her. Jiangg Ning liked that. ’Since we can take things one step at a time, why rush? Not all men are the same. Chen Yuan is the type of man who can control himself and stay rational.’
Besides, she and Jiangg Yao had a firm agreement: no doing certain things secretly behind the other’s back. This was a three-person relationship. No one could betray the others. The only way to maintain their current balance was to ensure their relationship progressed at the same pace for everyone.
’And they had maintained that balance so well. Why would she want to break it?’
She could tolerate Jiangg Yao clinging to Chen Yuan alone countless times, with the two of them sleeping together at night while Ningning slept by herself. Wasn’t that the whole point of their agreement? Otherwise, she’d have to constantly be on guard against her little sister trying to "sneak a snack." That kind of life would be too difficult and exhausting.
Jiangg Ning shook her head to herself. ’Maybe Mom will never understand the balance I have with my sister and Chen Yuan. Trust is the secret to how this twisted relationship can even be maintained.’
’If Chen Yuan were really as desperate as Mom says, why would he suffer in silence? He could just tell me, couldn’t he?’
’Am I an unreasonable person?’
’Not at all.’
’A vivid metaphor came to mind. If you compared the craving for intimacy to hunger, then a hungry person would surely speak up. A person wouldn’t just starve themselves to death, right? In the past, Chen Yuan would say, "Oh, Ningning, help me out, please," and I’d agree.’
’Wasn’t that a perfectly good system?’
However, now that she thought about it, Chen Yuan hadn’t made a request like that in a long time.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. The sound of footsteps descending the stairs rang out as Jiangg Ning walked, lost in her thoughts.
’Could it be that Chen Yuan hasn’t been hungry lately?’
’Or maybe...’
Her footsteps suddenly came to a halt.
Because, in the main hall downstairs, Jiangg Ning saw...
Jiangg Yao was hugging Chen Yuan with incredible intimacy. The two were stuck together like melted candy, utterly inseparable. The scene was all too familiar; they had been like this for several days now.
’You’re so silly, my dear daughter. He’s so young, how could he possibly live like a monk with you...’
Just then...
Jiangg Ruxue’s words echoed in her mind.
’If a person isn’t hungry, there’s another possibility... that he’s already eaten his fill at someone else’s house...’
Jiangg Ning froze for a moment, and a cold sweat broke out across her body as the implication of her own thought struck her.
Yaoyao and Chen Yuan had been a bit too intimate these last few days. She wasn’t sure when it had started, and she hadn’t paid it much mind, but now she suddenly realized... their intimacy was excessive. It was even more intense than during their initial honeymoon phase.
"Ahem."
Having reached the bottom of the stairs...
Jiangg Ning coughed lightly.
The pair downstairs immediately reacted, looking up at her.
"Ningning, you’re done with your chat?" Chen Yuan asked, reflexively shifting his body.
Jiangg Yao, for her part, subtly withdrew one of her hands, though the sweet smile on her face didn’t falter in the slightest.
After a moment, she asked, "Sis, what did Mom say to you?"
She was still holding onto Chen Yuan as she spoke.
That gesture, which would have seemed completely natural on any other day, now looked jarring in Jiangg Ning’s eyes.
She lowered her gaze slightly.
’A gentleman’s agreement?’
’I can be the honorable one, but my sister has never been keen on being honorable. Even if she betrayed our agreement, how would I ever know?’
’And it seems Yaoyao has been the one sleeping with Chen Yuan every night recently...’
Jiangg Ning didn’t want to let her mind drift toward the worst possibilities, but she couldn’t stop the thoughts from coming.
"Nothing important. Just some family matters."
"Okay. Well, tomorrow we’re going to Lanjing to get our things. Sis, don’t forget about renting an apartment. We should get one that’s even more spacious than our place in Lanjing. The old walk-in closet was completely full; it’s not big enough anymore."
’Going back to Lanjing together?’
She hadn’t paid much attention the last time Jiangg Yao brought it up, but now, the suggestion felt incredibly abrupt to Jiangg Ning.
’It’s as if Yaoyao is planning to do something behind my back again.’
Trust was a fragile thing. Once a crack appeared, the fissure would only grow wider.
"You’ve really had it rough, haven’t you, Yaoyao,"
Jiangg Ning said to her coolly in the end.
...
Lunch was ready, and the group sat around the dining table.
Jiangg Ruxue had piled food into Chen Yuan’s bowl until it resembled a small mountain, and she was still adding more.
"Chen, eat up! You need to keep your strength up. I’m not sure if you’re used to our local cuisine. If not, I can find a chef from your hometown to cook some of your favorite dishes... or I could even learn to make them myself."
𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"No, no, it’s fine, I’m used to it. Ningning often cooked dishes from here when we were in Lanjing. It’s really good, you don’t need to go to all that trouble. Besides, we’ll only be here for a few days."
The two sisters looked at Jiangg Ruxue’s beaming smile, feeling rather speechless.
A moment ago, Jiangg Ruxue had even offered to give up the master bedroom for Chen Yuan and the two sisters, claiming the lighting was better upstairs.
’Jiangg Ruxue was really treating Chen Yuan like an emperor, terrified of serving him in any way that wasn’t perfectly comfortable.’
The sisters didn’t like this overly enthusiastic attitude one bit; in fact, they found it somewhat repulsive.
It was all so jarringly unfamiliar.
"Why wouldn’t you stay here? I was already planning to have a study cleared out for you this afternoon to use as an office. Chen, do you have other plans?"
"Well... Mrs. Jiangg," Chen Yuan said, glancing at Jiangg Ning. "If I stay here, I’ll be disturbing you. I have to work in Mingzhu City for a while, so I was planning to rent a place with Ningning and Yaoyao to live in for now. We’ll move back to Lanjing after my work here is done."
Jiangg Ruxue was immediately displeased to hear this.
"Oh, don’t go to all that trouble. There’s plenty of room here. Why insist on renting a place?"
"He’s not used to living with elders," Jiangg Ning interjected, helping him explain. "He’ll have to entertain guests sometimes, and it wouldn’t be convenient here at our home. Everything will be easier to arrange if we live elsewhere. Mom, please don’t try to persuade him."
"What’s so inconvenient about our home? In my current situation, it’s not like I have any outsiders visiting. We could even dedicate a room as an office just for Chen... Ningning, you and your sister have been away for so many years, and I miss you terribly. Wouldn’t it be nice to stay at home a while longer?" As she spoke, she turned to Chen Yuan. "Besides, isn’t the formal marriage proposal happening soon? It would be a loss of face for me if your family finds out you’re living in a rental."
Jiangg Ruxue blinked her beautiful eyes, which had faint wrinkles at the corners.
She put on an appearance of utmost sincerity.
Her repeated insistence...
...left Chen Yuan at a loss for how to respond.
’Of course it was inconvenient to live here... With Jiangg Ruxue around, there was hardly any private space. How was he supposed to be intimate with Ningning and Yaoyao?’
"We’ll think about it," Chen Yuan said tactfully, focusing on the rice in his bowl.
"Chen, rest assured, as long as you’re willing to stay, you should treat this place as your own home. This big house hasn’t been this lively in years. I’ll just stay on the fourth floor and mind my own business. I won’t meddle in anything you do," Jiangg Ruxue said earnestly.
"I understand your kind intentions," Chen Yuan replied with an awkward smile.
"Plus, the soundproofing in this house is excellent," she added. "You could be shouting in your room and no one outside would hear a thing."
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!" Chen Yuan choked abruptly.
Jiangg Ning swiftly kicked Jiangg Ruxue under the table, shooting her a fierce glare to signal her to stop talking nonsense.
"Eat... Eat up. I just meant the soundproofing is good, so you won’t be disturbed while you rest," Jiangg Ruxue said with a smile, adding a chicken drumstick to Chen Yuan’s bowl.
...
「Afternoon.」
After their afternoon nap.
In the main hall, Chen Yuan sat cross-legged on the plush carpet in front of the incredibly soft sofa. Jiangg Yao sat on the sofa itself, her legs draped over his shoulders.
With one positioned above the other...
...they faced the enormous television, playing the newly released sequel to the co-op game *It Takes Two*.
Gripping her controller, she frequently yelped and shouted at the screen.
Meanwhile, Jiangg Ning was in a good mood as well. She was looking through their wedding photos, which had just arrived. She and Jiangg Yao both wanted to get an oversized print made as a keepsake—perhaps they could hang it in their room later on to add a festive touch to their new home.
’Marriage, after all, was about these little rituals that reminded you that you were married, filling your heart with happiness.’
In the past, a scene like this would have been unimaginable in the Jiangg family villa.
Forget playing video games on the main hall’s television; they had rarely even been allowed to watch cartoons on it, because Jiangg Ruxue forbade it.
Jiangg Yao never imagined a day would come when she could whoop and holler in here, completely ignoring everyone else as if they didn’t exist.
It was a scene straight out of a dream.
The most incredible part was that Jiangg Ruxue herself was right outside in the garden, trimming the flowers and plants with two maids and planting seeds she had bought from Caiyun City last year.
A moment earlier, Jiangg Ruxue had even come inside to grab a pair of shears. She saw the scene in the living room but said nothing, instead going to the kitchen to fetch a dessert for them.
She even told Jiangg Yao to make sure she kept Chen Yuan entertained.
"This is unreal," Jiangg Yao said during a break between levels. She picked up the dessert, took a bite, and then fed a spoonful to both Jiangg Ning and Chen Yuan. "Is this even my house anymore? I’ve never had it this good at home."
"You couldn’t play like this before?" Chen Yuan asked curiously.
"Play? Back in the day, I would’ve felt eternally blessed just for a chance to secretly hide in my room and play on my phone. You have no idea how exhausting it was... Ah, this is the life. If this is a dream, I hope I never wake up."
This villa in Mingzhu City was infinitely more comfortable than their small apartment in Lanjing.
It was quiet, pleasant, spacious, and most importantly, it was their home.
The emotional attachment made all the difference.
"Don’t tell me you’re changing your mind," Jiangg Ning said coolly, reminding Yaoyao not to be led astray by the current comforts. "Just yesterday, you were insisting that we had to move out."
But the words had barely left her mouth.
A loud RUMBLE suddenly sounded from outside.
It was followed by Jiangg Ruxue’s voice.
"That’s right, it’s our order. Be careful unloading it, and make sure not to scratch it."
Hearing her voice, the three of them stood up in unison and looked out the window.
They saw a truck parked at their front gate, and in its bed was a massive round bed.
"What the heck?" Jiangg Yao’s eyes went wide.
...
The three of them had no idea.
Jiangg Ruxue had her own little scheme.
She was determined to keep Chen Yuan in the house, but that wasn’t her only plan. Her real goal was to have Ningning get pregnant this year and give birth next year!
’Change his mind? Not a chance.’
’Once there’s a baby, will there be any room for second thoughts?’
’Her current mission was to supervise the two of them as they prepared for pregnancy, leaving no stone unturned.’
’And look, she had even prepared a huge bed for the three of them.’
