Chapter 752 - 503: Ningning’s Trampling Feels Great, Too
She reached out, grabbed the side of Chen Yuan’s face, and gave it a vicious pinch.
A pained cry from Chen Yuan echoed in the room. It had clearly hurt.
While Jiangg Ning was merciless when hitting Yaoyao and had been called a brute countless times, she had never actually been violent with Chen Yuan. The last time was so long ago he could barely remember it—when she’d thrown a high-heeled shoe at him. This was a real pinch, and Chen Yuan was caught completely off guard. He never expected her to be so forceful.
He clutched his face.
His entire face scrunched up in pain.
"How have I never noticed what a slick-tongued bastard you are? Do you really think I won’t do anything to you just because I like you? You’re starting to push your luck, just like Yaoyao."
She glared at him, her face as exquisite as ever, but her eyes blazed with a fire that couldn’t be extinguished.
"That really hurt," Chen Yuan whined, squatting down and bowing his head low, feigning a serious injury.
A moment later, he looked up with a pitiful expression.
If he could have managed it, he would have squeezed out a few tears to beg for Ningning’s mercy.
But Jiangg Ning’s anger hadn’t subsided in the least. She looked down at Chen Yuan, and the chill in her gaze sent a shiver through him. ’This isn’t something I can just sweet-talk my way out of...’ On matters of principle, Jiangg Ning was notoriously hard to persuade.
He didn’t get up, just tilted his face to look at her.
’If I stand up, I’m just asking for a beating.’
From this angle, looking up, Ningning’s figure looked even more incredible. She had her arms crossed over her chest, her pure white shirt straining as her arms pressed against her soft curves. Her long, toned legs were wrapped in tight jeans, and all of it was topped off by that cold expression of hers.
"Get up!"
"It hurts."
Chen Yuan lowered his head and stared at Jiangg Ning’s white slippers, which had a little rabbit design on them. An idea struck him. The next second, he flopped onto the floor and wrapped his arms around her legs.
Jiangg Ning jumped in surprise.
But when she realized Chen Yuan had curled his one-hundred-eighty-centimeter frame at her feet with no intention of getting up, she was left utterly speechless.
"Don’t tell me you’re about to throw a tantrum on the floor. That’s so childish."
"I was wrong," he said earnestly.
"Does apologizing on the floor make you seem more sincere than standing up?" Jiangg Ning asked, her expression unreadable.
"If you’re angry that I kept this from you, I swear I’ll never hide anything from you again, starting right now. If you’re angry that I... did that with Jiangg Yao, then I’m willing to apologize and make it up to you. Ningning, just tell me how I can compensate you. This is how I’m showing you I’m sorry."
Jiangg Ning didn’t answer immediately. She tried to move her legs.
She discovered that no matter how hard she struggled, her legs wouldn’t budge.
’I have a very strong urge to just stomp him to death right now...’
Exasperated, she suppressed the impulse.
"So, what do you think I’m angry about, Chen?"
"I’m guessing it’s both."
"You’re a pretty good guesser."
"I’m willing to die to atone for my sins... I was wrong, Ningning, wifey, I am deeply aware of my mistake."
"Don’t call me that," she said, her face hardening.
"Then I won’t."
Chen Yuan made a zipping motion across his lips.
Anyone who knew them would think he was just trying to sweet-talk his girlfriend. Anyone who didn’t would think they were watching someone discipline a dog.
Chen Yuan had thrown all shame to the wind. He gazed up at Jiangg Ning with pleading, puppy-dog eyes, as if trying to purify the resentment in her heart with the "holy light" of his gaze.
"When did you do it?"
"Huh?" Chen Yuan froze at Ningning’s sudden question. "Uh... The day of the engagement dinner."
"How did you do it."
"You... you really want me to say it?"
"Didn’t you just say you wouldn’t hide anything from me starting today? That you’d tell me everything? I’ve only asked two questions and you’re already hesitating. Is this what you call sincerity?" Jiangg Ning offered a small, chilling smile.
A shiver ran down Chen Yuan’s spine.
"That day... after Yaoyao and I got engaged... you know how she was injured and not feeling well during the photoshoot? Well, we ended up talking a lot, about how we should work on our relationship now that we’re engaged, and... that night, things just naturally..."
"Naturally what?"
"Uh, just..." Chen Yuan’s face flushed red, and he couldn’t meet Jiangg Ning’s eyes.
"Say it! Go on, say it!"
"It just happened."
"What happened?"
"Ningning, I’m begging you, how am I supposed to say it? Please don’t make this so hard for me... I’d rather you just strangle me. That would be better than this interrogation."
"You had the guts to do it, but now you don’t have the guts to talk about it. Don’t you find that a little strange?"
Every word Jiangg Ning spoke was calm and not particularly sharp, yet they made Chen Yuan feel so ashamed he was at a loss for words, and his expression turned grim.
’Honestly, there’s no room for excuses at this point. The only thing to do is wait for Ningning to cool down. Once she’s more stable, she might be more willing to accept an apology.’
Chen Yuan groveled and pleaded for a long time, but it had no effect. He only endured one humiliation after another from Ningning.
Eventually, she even told Chen Yuan to leave the room.
"I have to study now. You don’t need to come up with an excuse tonight; you can just go straight to Yaoyao’s room. See? Doesn’t that make me seem very understanding?" Jiangg Ning said lightly, a humorless smile playing on her lips.
Without a doubt, hearing those words felt worse to Chen Yuan than any punishment she could have dealt him.
"I’m not going... Can I just stay with you tonight?"
"Oh, please don’t. If I get in the way of you two, I’ll be the bad guy. I can’t take the blame for that."
"Ningning, please don’t be like this..."
"I’m not even stopping you. Isn’t that enough? What more do I have to do to make you two happy?"
"Just talk to me normally..."
"So you’re saying I’m the one who’s not being normal?"
"I didn’t say that."
Chen Yuan wasn’t discouraged by Jiangg Ning’s sarcastic barbs. He wasn’t an idiot. He knew he had to stick to Jiangg Ning tonight no matter what. Even if he couldn’t win her over, he had to at least show her he was serious about apologizing.
If he actually went to Yaoyao tonight, he’d be signing his own death warrant.
’Winning her back after that would be next to impossible.’
So, no matter how much Jiangg Ning tried to shoo him away, Chen Yuan shamelessly clung to her. He truly paid no mind to her cold words, even taking her kicks and shoves as a reward.
Having run out of ways to deal with his incessant pestering, Jiangg Ning grew thoroughly flustered and annoyed.
Even when she sat at her desk and opened a book to study, Chen Yuan clung to her like a koala. She wasn’t a man; having a grown man like him hanging off her was exhausting, and one of her shoulders was already starting to ache.
"I have exams coming up. Can you at least let me study in peace?" she said, her brow furrowed.
"I’m not bothering you. Can’t I just be clingy for a little while?" Seeing Ningning’s furious face, he wasn’t fazed at all. Instead, he launched a sneak attack, planting a quick kiss on the corner of her soft lips. "You’re so cute when you’re angry, wifey."
"I never realized you were this shameless."
"Then that just means I’ve made outstanding progress..."
...
「Meanwhile.」
Jiangg Ruxue came downstairs. She didn’t hear Jiangg Yao’s voice from her usual room, but noticed the door to the other spare bedroom was open.
She had been looking for Jiangg Yao, so she went to the spare bedroom and found her there, all alone.
KNOCK KNOCK—
"Yaoyao, are you out of the shower?"
Hearing the knock, Jiangg Yao’s face lit up in surprise, but the expression vanished the instant she saw it was Jiangg Ruxue.
"Mom, what are you doing here?"
"I just so happen to have something to discuss with you..."
