Chapter 604 - 391: Bankruptcy Crisis, Jiangg Ruxue Arrested (Part 6)
Bustling Tokyo.
Jiangg Yao’s days were rich and full, so happy she couldn’t be happier; she didn’t know the meaning of the word "trouble."
With Chen Yuan accompanying this carefree young lady, they explored half of Tokyo, playing and sightseeing without a care in the world.
They went to the Meiji Shrine, then the Tokyo Tower and the Sky Tree. Of course, they couldn’t miss the massive Ginza Commerce.
In the past two days, Chen Yuan had taken at least a thousand photos of her. Most were repetitive, allowing Jiangg Yao to pick out a select few to update her social media.
Every time Jiangg Yao posted, she would insist that Chen Yuan like it. Since he was friends with both Jiangg Yao and Jiangg Ning, Green Bubble’s settings made any "like" from a mutual friend visible to both of them. This meant he was always reluctant to like her posts, but coerced by the little minx, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and do as she said.
Jiangg Yao was doing it on purpose so her sister would see. Every time she imagined the look on her sister’s face when she saw the posts, a devilish little smile would appear on Jiangg Yao’s cheeks.
However, no matter how wonderful life in Tokyo was, it had to end eventually.
Jiangg Yao couldn’t keep winning forever.
Chen Yuan had planned his schedule far in advance, his determination firmer than ever. No matter how much Jiangg Yao pouted or pleaded this time, it was no use.
So, starting the day before his departure, Jiangg Yao began to sulk.
「A morning in Tokyo.」
A few warm, gentle rays of sunlight shone upon the skyscrapers, their clean glass panes reflecting a kaleidoscope of colors. Inside the hotel suite, the thick, wood-grain floorboards basked in the sun’s glow.
From beneath the soft covers of the bed, a fair-skinned foot cautiously emerged, stretching out into the sunlight.
Instantly, its smooth toenails were illuminated until they were crystal clear, like treasures glinting with a captivating light. Anyone who saw it would feel an irresistible urge to lean down to admire and caress it.
The foot swayed back and forth, playfully teasing the light.
Lying on the bed, Jiangg Yao was bored out of her mind. She pouted, her phone cast aside, untouched. Her thoughts were consumed by Chen Yuan’s departure. Of course she didn’t want him to go; it would mean being left all alone in this unfamiliar city. Especially after the happy time they’d spent together, the loneliness that followed such excitement felt too awful to bear.
She was currently racking her brain for a solution, and even her sulking was a tactic to make Chen Yuan relent and stay.
CLICK—
The sound of a door opening.
Jiangg Yao’s ears perked up instantly. Confirming the sound, she knew Chen Yuan was back from outside. She immediately pulled her foot back under the covers, tugged the blanket up, and wrapped herself tightly within it, looking like a self-imprisoned silkworm cocoon.
Chen Yuan walked in and saw her antics. The corner of his mouth twitched.
A whole night had passed, and Jiangg Yao was somehow still sulking.
Chen Yuan didn’t try to coax her right away. He was actually glad for a moment of peace to handle some work matters. In the morning, precisely because Jiangg Yao was ignoring him, Chen Yuan had found the time to meet with the head of the Tokyo-area corporation. He toured the facility for a long time and met the director, who was famous even back at the Jiang Group’s Huaxia headquarters. As the saying goes, seeing is believing. The meeting truly gave him a lot to think about, helping him understand where the gap lay between himself and such a meticulous manager.
Although the head of the Tokyo region was a woman, she was more shrewd and capable than any man. Not only was she socially adept in her work, but she also carried an indescribable air of maturity.
Even now, when Chen Yuan thought back, he could recall the gentle smile on her face and the air of authority she commanded with her subordinates, all without a hint of anger.
It was no wonder Chen Yuan was so impressed by this director. It wasn’t that he was a lecher; rather, truly exceptional women often possess a certain aura. When he saw this woman, he was unknowingly reminded of Jiangg Ning. In that light, staring a little longer wasn’t a crime.
As he was lost in thought, the sudden RING RING RING of his phone broke the silence.
Chen Yuan took out his phone to answer the call. As he spoke, the blankets over Jiangg Yao shifted slightly. She was undoubtedly hiding underneath, secretly straining to listen.
"Yes, Chacha, I’m heading back tonight. I also met that classmate of yours. I have to say, she’s really impressive. Managing things all by herself in Tokyo... in a city this big, she must be swamped with details every day, right? I’m really impressed..."
He offered a few words of sincere praise.
Hiding under the covers, Jiangg Yao instantly rolled her eyes and mimicked him in a small, mocking voice, "’She’s re~ally impressive~’"
Chen Yuan heard her, glanced in her direction, and scoffed quietly before ignoring her and continuing his call with Chacha.
"You’re saying you want me to fly to Kyoto? Tonight? Why so sudden?" Something on the other end made Chen Yuan’s expression falter for a moment before he replied, "Alright, then. As it happens, I have some work-related things I’d like to ask about. In that case, I’d be happy to oblige."
After hanging up, Chen Yuan’s smile vanished, his expression returning to a calm state.
He leaned against a corner of the sofa, facing the suite’s spacious balcony, and gazed at the bright sun outside.
Jiangg Yao scrambled up from the bed, her brows furrowed and her lip bitten, staring at him with displeasure.
"So you’re still leaving this afternoon, aren’t you?"
"Yeah. It’s already set. I can’t change it," he replied.
"You really have the heart to leave me here all alone? What if I get kidnapped! In a city this big, if I really got lost, where would you even look for me? Then you’d... you’d lose me forever."
"Stop trying to scare me, milady," Chen Yuan sighed helplessly. "I told you so much yesterday, and it seems like you didn’t hear a single word."
"What did you say?"
"See? Not a single word," Chen Yuan said, scratching his head in frustration. "I said I’ve made arrangements here in Tokyo. Someone will be protecting you around the clock. Forget getting lost—I’ll know what time it is, where you are, even which manhole cover you’re standing on. It’s not going to happen."
"Heh, you’re so amazing then."
Jiangg Yao offered a sweetly sarcastic smile. A moment later, she threw her image to the wind and started rolling around on the bed, wailing in a doomsday tone, "I don’t want you to go! I don’t want to be alone! A room this big is definitely haunted, and I’m a scaredy-cat..."
"Fine, then come with me."
At his words, Jiangg Yao’s movements instantly stopped. She puffed out her cheeks and said sulkily, "I don’t want to go back either!"
"Jiangg Yao, you don’t have to put on a show for me. You already threw a fit all night yesterday. If I had the time, do you think I wouldn’t want to stay with you? Do you really think I want to run back to Ningning, that being a million miles away from you would make me jump for joy because I’m free from your torment?"
"Isn’t that it?"
"Of course not," Chen Yuan said, feeling a little guilty. He did miss Ningning a little, but it wasn’t a big part of it, just a tiny, tiny bit. "As a man, I can’t be preoccupied with romance all day. Since I’ve accepted this career, it’s only right that I put in the effort. If I just stayed in Tokyo with you, what would other people think of me? What would the employees under me think? And if you put yourself in my shoes, if I have no ambition, how am I supposed to provide for you in the future?"
"I..." Jiangg Yao knew she was in the wrong and mumbled, "I don’t need you to provide for me. I have hands and feet. I can earn my own money."
No man could keep a straight face after hearing his girlfriend say something like that.
Chen Yuan was no exception.
His heart softened, and the expression on his face relaxed.
However, he then turned and saw the countless shopping bags scattered around the hotel room.
"It’ll be impressive enough if you can earn enough to cover your own spending."
"Hmph."
"Don’t be angry anymore. I’ll rush back in two days, and I’ll spend another two days with you then. After that, we can go back to Lanjing together, okay?" Chen Yuan moved closer to the bed, looking into Jiangg Yao’s eyes and speaking softly, "You came to Tokyo because you were mad at me. It’s about time you cooled off. Let’s go back together obediently."
"Who knows if you’ll actually come back? What if you don’t?" Jiangg Yao was still skeptical.
"Pinky promise."
Chen Yuan held out his pinky and wiggled it at Jiangg Yao. His eyes were full of sincerity, gesturing for her to extend her own hand. Jiangg Yao, still wrapped in her blanket cocoon, watched him uncertainly for a good while. Finally, convinced that Chen Yuan was definitely leaving this time, she sighed and reluctantly linked her pinky with his.
"There we go. That’s my good Yaoyao."
The corners of Chen Yuan’s eyes instantly crinkled. He grabbed her by her delicate wrist and pulled her into a tight embrace, lowering his head to gaze at her soft, exquisitely carved face.
Caught off guard by the hug, Jiangg Yao grew shy, a blush creeping onto her cheeks.
"What are you doing..."
"I’m leaving this afternoon. Aren’t you going to miss me?"
"Missing you... what’s the use? It’s not like you can split yourself in two to be with me," she pouted.
"Then we should cherish the time we have now."
"How do we cherish it?"
"What do you think?"
Chen Yuan retorted, unable to resist leaning down to kiss her on the cheek. Jiangg Yao belatedly understood what he meant. Her little face scrunched up in resistance as she pushed against his body. It wasn’t that she disliked that sort of thing—on the contrary, she loved it. But the thought of Chen Yuan going back to be with her sister made her feel like this "young master" of hers was now tainted, unclean. The joy of having him all to herself had been so wonderful that she was no longer willing to accept sharing the same man with her sister.
"If you’re going to leave, then just leave. Don’t use that as an excuse to take... take advantage of me," Jiangg Yao couldn’t help but protest. A warm hand had found its way to her waist, and the intimate touch sent a ticklish sensation through her, making her voice tremble.
But the moment the words left her mouth, Chen Yuan’s lips were on hers.
Her whimper of protest was muffled. All she could do was hum and murmur her dissatisfaction. But within seconds, her body went soft. She closed her eyes involuntarily, and her disobedient hands wrapped themselves around Chen Yuan’s neck.
In the warm suite, the two of them tumbled onto the bed together.
The blankets wrinkled slightly beneath them.
