Chapter 1559 - 1560: Precaution Before the Storm
Chapter 1560: Precautionary Measures
In the interrogation room, Ye Fan and Zhao Gongming sat facing each other.
Ye Fan exuded authority, his expression calm, forcing Zhao Gongming to avoid direct eye contact.
Since being detained, Zhao Gongming had looked somber and deeply remorseful. The brief period of captivity had aged him by a decade, making him appear extremely weary.
"Wu Dayong has confessed, and Cheng Mu has also been captured. Do you have anything to add?" Ye Fan asked calmly.
"What Wu Dayong knows I may not know, but everything I know, Wu Dayong knows." Zhao Gongming solemnly said, "So my value is limited; there’s no need to question me further."
This outcome was already anticipated by Ye Fan, with no surprise on his face.
Zhao Gongming looked up at Ye Fan eagerly and asked, "Has Cheng Mu really been captured?"
He had come to believe Ye Fan’s words, but just wanted to confirm them once more.
Zhao Gongming didn’t dare to doubt Ye Fan’s words.
"That’s right," Ye Fan replied seriously, "He was captured at your doorstep. You should be able to guess who Cheng Mu’s target was."
"Those bastards, I always knew they were capable of anything, but when they finally committed such despicable acts, it still infuriates me," Zhao Gongming vented his anger.
After a pause, he seriously said to Ye Fan, "My value is not great anymore. Just find someone to record my statement, and I’ll tell everything I know to be cross-checked with Wu Dayong’s statement, hoping to offer some assistance."
"I will instruct others to come and question you. Since you’ve said it yourself, I also trust that as an insider, there’s indeed a limit to what you know." Ye Fan nodded.
"Thank you sincerely no matter what." Zhao Gongming was exceptionally sincere.
"No need, it’s just my duty." Ye Fan responded indifferently.
Zhao Gongming pondered for a moment and carefully said, "I believe you already know Cheng Mu’s importance and his significant value. So, if you can pry open Cheng Mu’s lips, the gains will be astounding. But prying open Cheng Mu’s lips will be exceedingly difficult."
"I will watch how things unfold," Ye Fan said casually.
...
Just as Ye Fan was interrogating for statements, the Hunter had already learned about Yang Chu’s demise and Cheng Mu’s capture.
The Hunter sat on a sofa, facing the floor-to-ceiling window, the surrounding air exceedingly cold.
Behind him stood a beautiful woman, none other than the Transforming Mouse.
After the Hunter issued orders to Cheng Mu, Transforming Mouse had been closely monitoring the situation until receiving the grim news, which even shocked Transforming Mouse.
Transforming Mouse reported this news back to the Hunter, who immediately exploded in rage, his previous calmness and serenity replaced by fury and murderous intent.
"Yang Chu is dead?"
"Cheng Mu was captured alive?"
"Absurd, utterly absurd."
The Hunter murmured softly, his suppressed fury and anger surging like roaring waves, writhing in the air.
The entire Hunter trembled slightly with agitation.
Although Transforming Mouse couldn’t see the Hunter’s expression, judging from the aura he emanated, it was clear he was filled with rage and brutality.
Transforming Mouse’s expression was equally desolate, as though a withered flower, having lost its past brilliance and color.
This failure dealt a significant blow to both the Hunter and the Transforming Mouse.
"This is a setup, a trap. Ever since Zhao Gongming contacted us and Wu Dayong was exposed, we’ve been trapped in this predicament. Ye Fan utilized the familial ties between Zhao Gongming and Wu Dayong to lay a snare for us, just waiting for us to fall into it. And we foolishly walked right in without any guard."
Transforming Mouse, pale-faced, belatedly analyzed, "We prided ourselves on monitoring Ye Fan and his team’s every move, but in reality, Ye Fan openly built bridges while secretly crossing the countryside and dealt us a harsh blow."
Whether it was the stolen key by Zhao Gongming or luring Wu Dayong to show himself.
To Cheng Mu and Yang Chu’s mobilization for aftermath handling, all actions indicated that everything was within Ye Fan’s grasp.
"It’s even possible that Zhao Gongming himself didn’t know the key that lured Wu Dayong was fake. How could Ye Fan and others handle such a crucial item so carelessly?"
Cheng Mu spoke steadily, using sharp instincts and seasoned experience to thoroughly analyze the situation’s ins and outs.
If this isn’t understood by now, then life has been lived in vain.
"Repairing the fence after losing the sheep is too late for regrets." The Hunter sighed with deep confusion and exasperation, questioning, "Logically, such an incident shouldn’t have happened, as our informants are present in both the operations team and the research institute. No matter how capable Ye Fan is, he shouldn’t be able to dupe us, but he’s done exactly that?"
Upon reaching this point, the Hunter’s anger surged, expressing dissatisfaction, "How did Ye Fan achieve this? Where were our informants? How come there wasn’t a single message relayed to us?"
This perplexing question continuously baffled the Hunter, making him feel a sense of helpless defeat.
Failing to obtain firsthand information, experiencing such a failure was undoubtedly deserved.
"From beginning to end, our informants sent no warning messages, so it seems that it wasn’t a lack of diligence on their part but that other changes occurred. I found some evidence sufficient to prove the existence of a hidden force alongside Ye Fan,"
Transforming Mouse stated firmly, "At the scene where Wu Dayong and Zhao Gongming were captured, there were several unfamiliar faces. Wu Dayong was captured by these unknown individuals."
"So it appears Ye Fan had strategically prepared personnel in the shadows, enabling such a sharp counterattack," the Hunter finally realized where his downfall lay.
He wasn’t defeated upon his carefully laid chessboard but failed due to vague and obscure enemy movements.
Losing the initiative, it’s bound to lead to defeat.
The Hunter could finally accept this failure. As long as our informants hadn’t become deaf and blind, everything could be forgiven.
The failure was something to learn and recover from for a renewed confrontation.
If the capital and strength for competition were lost, that would be indeed lamentable.
"Precautionary measures, taking preemptive action, impressive, truly impressive. Quietly and without a sound, Ye Fan caused us considerable losses. His craftiness is alluring. We were kept in the dark, unaware of the traps, while Ye Fan had already dug the pits, eagerly awaiting our fall into the trap, and we truly jumped right into the net."
The Hunter sighed with bitterness, a mixture of sorrow and complexity beyond words.
