Chapter 1482: In Cahoots

Ying Zi spent some effort before finally getting in touch with Hose. As two field operatives, they originally had no contact, but due to the actual situation, they had to associate.

Hose did not refuse Ying Zi, nor did he express any opinion, but merely relayed this intention to Charles.

After Charles received the message from Hose regarding Nagano Yoko wanting an alliance, he pondered for a long time.

Charles eventually made a decision, still planning to ally with Nagano Yoko.

Regardless of whether the sincerity in cooperation is real, or whether each has their own agenda, when the situation is disadvantageous, joining forces is mutually beneficial. This is an obvious situation. Rather than maintaining a stalemate of insufficient power, it is better to band together.

Nagano Yoko and Charles met, sitting facing each other, each with different expressions.

Charles had misgivings, which was inevitable. He already knew that Hugo had thrown out fake map fragments, which fooled Boss Zuo, leading to a result where Charles’s judgment also went wrong.

Foolishly believing that Boss Zuo’s map fragments were real, he thought that as long as those fragments were taken from Boss Zuo, everything would be accomplished. The idea wasn’t wrong, but the actual execution encountered problems.

Clive led people out to fight, only to fall into a trap, which left Charles very frustrated.

In the end, there was no gain, and instead, Clive was lost, an irreplaceable huge loss.

Understanding this, Charles naturally felt he was tricked, and Nagano Yoko played a certain role in it. How could he possibly feel good about that?

If Clive had not died, it would have been fine, but Clive’s death made Charles unable to be satisfied with Nagano Yoko.

Seeing Nagano Yoko actively proposed an alliance, and pressed by the situation, Charles had no choice but to agree.

However, the dissatisfaction with Nagano Yoko is something no one can change.

After a simple greeting, Charles said, "Since I’m here, let’s have a good talk."

"It’s my honor, and yours too. Us being able to cooperate is a win-win situation," Nagano Yoko said with a smile.

She did not mention anything about Hugo or the fake map fragments, nor did she dare to bring it up. She sensibly filtered it out to avoid making Charles look bad, choosing to forget this point altogether for their own good.

As long as both understand this point, there’s no need to bring it up, as it seems unreasonable.

Nagano Yoko politely said, "Let’s not talk about the past, but about our current joint effort, okay?"

"That’s what I wish for," Charles replied with a smile. "However, one thing must be clarified in advance: the distribution of the treasure is a concern for everyone, and we must negotiate this upfront to avoid contention later."

He was very confident, believing he could obtain the treasure and get all three map fragments.

Now, with discussions already starting on the distribution of the treasure, it was evident how strong his determination to win was.

Actually, that was the secondary goal. Avenging Clive while obtaining the treasure was his unwavering resolve.

So, Charles seemed ready to risk everything, refusing to give up until he achieved his goal.

"Naturally, for the sake of fairness, we split evenly, how about that?" Nagano Yoko responded straightforwardly.

Her unwavering determination to obtain the treasure was clear without needing to say more.

"This is the most reasonable distribution method. It seems you do have some sincerity," Charles nodded in satisfaction.

"I am sincere, and I’m sure Charles can feel that," Nagano Yoko said with a smile. "I believe that in our upcoming cooperation, we will work closely together without any issues disrupting each other’s interests."

"Naturally, no one will do something that backfires," Charles said.

Their determination to secure the treasure led to their cooperation. Not to mention Charles’s motive for avenging Clive, just the opportunity for them to unite was enough.

If outsiders heard this conversation, they would think it’s laughable and see them as delusional.

As of now, one map fragment is with Nagano Yoko, one with Ye Fan, and the last one is naturally at the auction house.

Under such circumstances, Nagano Yoko and Charles don’t have much advantage.

But what must be taken seriously is that their determination was not superficial, but a solemn promise.

Even if they had to risk everything, it was this resolve that brought Nagano Yoko and Charles together.

"If I’m not mistaken, the map fragment that was once with Hugo has fallen into Ye Fan’s hands. You are left with only one original map fragment," Charles said with a broad smile.

"As you have guessed, you’re absolutely correct," Nagano Yoko replied earnestly.

"The situation is extremely unfavorable for us; challenging two parties with one is tough," Charles was deeply concerned about this issue.

"Actually, it’s not that troublesome," Nagano Yoko said. "We must know that Ye Fan’s map fragment once flowed from our hands. As long as we get that ancient painting from the auction, I can piece together the complete map, since Ye Fan’s map fragment is already imprinted in my mind."

"Good, very good," Charles smiled wholeheartedly. "Once we get the ancient painting from the auction, everything will be accomplished."

He couldn’t help but be optimistic. What seemed like an unfavorable situation suddenly became much clearer.

As long as they obtain that yet unrevealed ancient painting from the auction, and extract the map fragment, Nagano Yoko will achieve a complete victory. Even if she gives her well-memorized map fragment back to Ye Fan, it wouldn’t matter much.

For Nagano Yoko and Charles, the ancient painting in the auction is the critical piece.

But for those unaware of the map fragments’ situation, any map fragment is crucial.

"The auction is about to start, and inevitably a fierce struggle will ensue," Nagano Yoko said with some concern. "Whether we can successfully bid for the ancient painting is key."

"Competing against Chu Mengyao in financial power is seeking death, but I don’t think Chu Mengyao will be a fool. It’s still worth trying," Charles pondered.

"Overall, it’s reliable to spare no cost," Nagano Yoko said. "With our combined financial power, we should be able to crush Chu Mengyao. If the bidding price goes sky-high, no one will play the fool. Only an idiot would do so," she added confidently.

"However, getting the treasure means anything fetched from the underground market will reach a sky-high price, making any expense worth it," Charles grinned cunningly.

The alliance between the two was reached so pleasantly.
