Chapter 1548 - 1549: Ghost, Not Human
Emma Supermarket, Cheng Mu had already hacked into the supermarket’s surveillance system, taking in everything inside the supermarket.
The reminders and warnings from Huntress made her extremely vigilant.
Although she thought it was making a mountain out of a molehill, for absolute safety, she didn’t overestimate herself and instead made ample preparations as if facing a formidable enemy.
The supermarket was Zhao Gongming’s regular delivery spot, also the location for this key handover.
In the car outside the supermarket, with Cheng Mu was a man nearing forty.
His name was Yang Chu, the mentor of Wu Dayong.
Years ago, Wu Dayong was deceived and tricked, subsequently joining an illegal organization. Wu Dayong’s fearless bravery and combat prowess caught Yang Chu’s eye, and so Yang Chu took him under his wing, making him an indomitable warrior.
Yang Chu was the most combat-proficient subordinate beside Cheng Mu,
followed by Wu Dayong. However, in Yang Chu’s view, Wu Dayong was adept at enduring and had a tendency to surpass the master, hence in terms of combat prowess, even Yang Chu was not entirely confident in being able to crush Wu Dayong.
In this operation, Cheng Mu and Yang Chu were in hiding, and Wu Dayong was tasked with retrieving the goods.
Cheng Mu and her team had made arrangements in the supermarket in advance, so they had already gained the upper hand.
Even though Zhao Gongming hadn’t arrived yet, the setup was already in place.
It was evident that Cheng Mu had made comprehensive preparations.
At this moment, Zhao Gongming was on his way to the supermarket by car.
In the shadows, Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, Li Tong, and Qiu Wen were all in motion, monitoring Zhao Gongming’s every move.
The tracking was done with extreme caution, to the point where Zhao Gongming didn’t sense anything amiss.
Half an hour later, Zhao Gongming parked his car outside the supermarket and hurriedly went straight to where the lockers were.
Outside the supermarket, Qiu Wen, Shen Yaqing, Yang Shu, Shen Tingting, Qian Weiguo, Zhang Kui, and Gao Qiang took turns entering the vicinity of the supermarket, sealing off all exit routes.
Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, and Li Tong were also not idle. Ye Fan stayed put in the car while Zhang Lu and Li Tong coordinated outside, hacking into the supermarket’s surveillance system in no time.
By this point, Ye Fan could see inside the supermarket and had locked onto Zhao Gongming’s movements in his line of sight.
After familiarizing himself with the structure of the supermarket, Ye Fan began deploying his personnel.
Through the earpiece, he issued his orders one by one.
Qiu Wen and others swiftly took action, controlling every passage in the supermarket without drawing anyone’s attention.
Ye Fan was in the car overseeing and coordinating everything, while Zhang Lu, Li Tong, and others participated in the specific actions.
"The target has appeared." Observing Zhao Gongming, Cheng Mu showed a confident smile and asked Yang Chu, "Have you noticed anything unusual?"
"Nothing unusual," Yang Chu replied with a muffled voice.
Ye Fan and Cheng Mu seemed to exist in different spaces, both unaware of each other’s presence.
Cheng Mu had taken the initiative, having calculated her moves. According to Huntress, it was originally a probe, to assess Ye Fan’s ability to react.
Huntress was so cautious because the opponent she faced was the Terminator, a name that inherently demanded utmost vigilance.
Cheng Mu struck first with intent, while Ye Fan naturally found himself at a disadvantage.
Ye Fan had followed Zhao Gongming here, needing to familiarize himself with several places; the sudden choice of battlefield at Emma Supermarket by Zhao Gongming naturally required Ye Fan to personally command for peace of mind.
Logically, the appearance of people like Zhang Lu increased the likelihood of exposure.
But for Cheng Mu, besides Zhao Gongming, the others were all unfamiliar faces, so the increase in numbers didn’t necessarily correlate with increased exposure risk.
"Shall we act? Zhao Gongming is losing patience." Yang Chu cast a glance at Cheng Mu and said softly.
At this moment, on the chair near the locker where Zhao Gongming was, he was nervously looking around, waiting for the person to collect the goods.
"Action," Cheng Mu ordered.
From an inconspicuous corner, Wu Dayong emerged and headed straight for Zhao Gongming.
On Zhao Gongming’s right, Wu Dayong sat down.
Wu Dayong, as the one to collect the goods, had previous contact with Zhao Gongming; otherwise, as a key general under Transforming Mouse, he wouldn’t have complied with Cheng Mu’s command to come and assist.
Transforming Mouse had his own matters to attend to, hence Cheng Mu’s involvement.
"Where is it?" Wu Dayong glanced at Zhao Gongming, his attitude cold.
Zhao Gongming produced the key and handed it over, his expression slightly disgruntled but not daring to reveal too much.
Just as Wu Dayong took hold of half the key, with the other half still in Zhao Gongming’s hand, Zhao Gongming spoke with a tone of plea, "I know I’ve already sunk in too deep and can’t turn back, but I must warn you, don’t push me too far, and don’t drive things to the edge, otherwise, it benefits no one."
"Since you know you’re stuck in this quagmire, you should understand that following orders is your only choice. You have no other options, do you understand?" Wu Dayong scoffed, "You also have no right or qualification to bargain, listening obediently is more important than anything, lest you harm yourself and others, your demise doesn’t matter, but if you drag your family down, that’s your guilt."
"You, you..." Zhao Gongming glared at Wu Dayong, filled with anger, "You’re not human."
"You’re a ghost, you’re not human either," Wu Dayong said playfully.
"..." Zhao Gongming was at a loss for words, becoming utterly despondent, as Wu Dayong’s words pierced his heart like a needle bursting a balloon. Not only did it deflate his rage, but it also tore away his last layer of decent facade.
All along, he harbored a pitiful glimmer of hope.
But now, all fantasies and hopes vanished completely.
Originally, he had long become something neither human nor ghost.
"I’m begging you, don’t be too ruthless, otherwise, it’s not good for you either. I only do this kind of head-losing task once; next time, I absolutely won’t participate," Zhao Gongming pleaded.
"Once you’ve dirtied yourself, how can you expect to stay out of it?" Wu Dayong said without empathy, "If you want mutual destruction, be prepared for your own demise first. I may not determine the outcome, but what I can assert is you’re only fit to be a ghost, no longer qualified to be human."
"Ah!" Zhao Gongming sighed weakly.
He withdrew the hand holding the key powerlessly.
With no resistance left, Wu Dayong successfully took the key.
Wu Dayong turned and left, not giving Zhao Gongming a second glance.
In his mind, scenes of himself step-by-step falling into the trap appeared, just like Zhao Gongming was now.
