Peng Bird, George, and the others drove away. This moment of confusion gave them a perfect opportunity.

In the underground garage, only the Black Cat Team, and the people from Nishida and Yamamoto were left fighting each other. The scene was utterly chaotic.

Following Xigu Xiu’s instructions, Yamamoto and Nishida did not relentlessly pursue Peng Bird and the others. Achieving their goal was more important than anything else.

From this, it can be seen that Yamamoto and Nishida’s departure naturally had an element of intentionally letting them escape, which certainly suggested a conspiracy.

For Yamamoto and the others, Ma De and his people were also enemies, no doubt about it. Ambushing Peng Bird and the others here was definitely pre-planned. The original target was Xigu Xiu; now they merely transferred their animosity to Peng Bird.

Ma De was extremely furious, cursing incessantly, but it was to no avail. He could not break free from Yamamoto and Nishida’s murderous intent.

The opponents identified them as enemies and didn’t care whether they were enemies of Peng Bird and the others. They only needed to understand that they were also there for the map fragment, making Xigu Xiu their direct target, hence there was no room for negotiation once the killing started.

The Black Cat Team felt wronged, yet not entirely without reason. Ma De, helplessly, could only accept the outcome passively.

Just as Yamamoto and Nishida said, if Peng Bird was the mastermind, then they were accomplices. Without the accomplices’ interference, the situation wouldn’t have escalated to this point. Therefore, at this point, all they could do was bitterly accept this conclusion.

"The mastermind escaped, leaving us to take the blame and vent their anger on us. It’s so shameless," Ma De was very angry, but what use was it? Faced with such a situation, it seemed they could only become the scapegoat, a result he absolutely could not bear.

"You bunch of fools, the ones you should be chasing are the ones that got away. Clinging to us is just too much bullying," Ma De felt innocent and aggrieved, venting his anger with such taunts.

"Bullying you is the point. Those eight people’s strength should not be underestimated. Since they’ve fled, they can’t be caught. But it’s different with you, escaping our clutches is very hard. Since you’re also our enemies, it’s better to let you take the blame and give the boss an explanation. Otherwise, if the boss holds us accountable, the guilt would be serious," Yamamoto sneered.

This was blatant scapegoating, yet spoken so righteously. It infuriated the Black Cat Team members.

"You are soft targets, temporarily an easy explanation. Prepare to die," Nishida’s face was shadowed with malice.

"Damn, damn bastard," Ma De nearly spat blood, provoked to the brink of losing control.

Treating them like soft targets, to be kneaded at will, was utterly excessive bullying.

"Captain, what do we do now?" an anxious Black Cat Team subordinate asked. "These bastards are infuriating, but now isn’t the time to hesitate. We can’t fight these people to the death for no reason. We can’t afford that. The road is long, and eventually, we’ll show these bastards the consequences of crossing us. Now is not the time to be impulsive."

All the Black Cat Team members felt murderous intent toward Yamamoto and Nishida. Their continuous insults naturally made them angry, but this wasn’t the time to vent personal grievances. For now, this debt could only be kept in their hearts.

"We’ll see. One day, I’ll make you know the cost of crossing us," Ma De roared.

"Don’t just talk tough; anyone can do that," Nishida and Yamamoto ridiculed repeatedly.

"Retreat, withdraw, do not linger in battle or get entangled," Ma De, out of helplessness, could only make such a judgment.

The Black Cat Team members had no choice but to follow Ma De’s order, gathering toward him and showing signs of retreating.

"If you’ve got the guts, come fight us! Escape—what skill is that? A bunch of cowards," Yamamoto taunted.

"All you can do is run for your lives. Besides running, what other choices do you have?" Nishida laughed disdainfully.

Ma De led the Black Cat Team away, carrying the humiliation but having no choice.

Of course, the Black Cat Team also left behind seven or eight corpses, the tragic consequences of this calamity.

The Black Cat Team thought they could be the mantis stalking the cicada, only to end up with egg on their face.

Besides creating some trouble for Peng Bird and the others, they even helped Peng Bird’s group to have a chance to escape.

This was a major failure and miscalculation, filling the Black Cat Team’s entire members with anger and resentment.

They came full of confidence and left battered and bruised, a strong feeling of humiliating defeat.

Yamamoto and Nishida quieted down. After sending their subordinates to rest, they approached Xigu Xiu.

At this point, they could only return to calm. To make a move now was beyond their capability.

"Boss, according to your orders, we didn’t die chasing the culprits, letting them escape smoothly," Yamamoto reported, "Besides the group who took the map fragment, another enemy group tried to intercept midway. We engaged with them for a while and repelled the enemy."

"Hmm, very good," Xigu Xiu said with a satisfied smile, "Since we achieved this goal, that’s for the best."

"Boss, but the map fragment was taken by the enemy. What should we do?" Nishida urgently asked, "It’s a massive blow to us. Without the map fragment, what are we to do?"

Yamamoto and Nishida blamed themselves for this responsibility, feeling very dissatisfied and remorseful.

"The map fragment was fake, not real," Xigu Xiu said with a complacent smile.

"What?" Yamamoto was shocked.

"Fake?" Nishida was skeptical and unsure.

The two looked at each other, bewildered. How could it be fake?

If it was fake, why protect it like a treasure?

If it was fake, where was the real one?

"Boss, what’s going on? I don’t understand," Yamamoto asked, "The fake map fragment was stolen, was it deliberately let happen by the boss?"

"Yes, it was deliberate," Xigu Xiu admitted openly.

"But why? Why go through such trouble?" Nishida was utterly perplexed.

"With the map fragment in my hands, I would become a target for all hidden enemies focusing on me. Now that it’s stolen, soon all forces will know this news, and I will be free from that target. No one will place their attention on me anymore. I’m safe and won’t have to be terrified anymore," Xigu Xiu explained.

"I see," Yamamoto realized.

"I understand now," Nishida also comprehended.
