Chapter 1573 - 1574: You’re Confused
An expected car accident occurred without any warning.
In the car, Shang Xiaoran and Han Zizhen forgot about the minor discord between them as a couple, and were both shocked and terrified by the shocking scene.
In fact, there were uncontrollable hysterical screams coming from inside the car.
Ye Fan, who was driving the car that collided, had been mentally prepared for this, showing no signs of distress.
Unlike him, Shang Xiaoran and Han Zizhen were genuinely scared.
"Could it be that Cat Hunter wants to kill me?" At that moment, Han Zizhen only thought of this possibility, though he couldn’t comprehend why.
Moments later, the two collided cars stopped swaying and came to a stable halt. Fortunately, no one was injured; apart from minor friction and collisions, they only endured enormous psychological stress. Everything else was fine.
Immediately afterwards, ambulances arrived, commandeered to forcibly take Shang Xiaoran and Han Zizhen onto the ambulance.
Shang Xiaoran and Han Zizhen were a bit bewildered; they hadn’t yet snapped out of their shock when the ambulance arrived at a speed they couldn’t have imagined.
The couple realized something was off; the ambulance came too quickly.
Especially Han Zizhen, who was extremely anxious, fearing it was a ploy by Cat Hunter.
No matter how puzzled or how much the couple questioned the paramedics, no one provided them with answers.
The couple’s resistance was futile against the paramedics.
Moreover, someone chose angles to photograph the accident scene, which baffled the couple even more.
"Who are you people? What do you want? Let me go, let me go now." Shang Xiaoran struggled, screaming.
Soon, her mouth was covered.
Han Zizhen looked at the paramedics with terror, his heart pounding, unable to stop imagining dire scenarios. If these people were with Cat Hunter, it would be terrible.
He couldn’t help but pray; hopefully, they wouldn’t fall victim to Cat Hunter’s evil hand.
Such prayers were in vain, bringing him only boundless darkness and fear.
The ambulance stopped by a remote roadside.
Han Zizhen and Shang Xiaoran were transferred to another vehicle.
The couple, frightened to death, saw Ye Fan waiting for them.
As soon as the car door closed, the couple’s terrified expressions vanished, replaced by anger.
Shang Xiaoran adjusted her emotions and roared furiously, "Ye Fan, what do you mean by this? Are you trying to kill me or what?"
At this point, Han Zizhen unexpectedly became calm; as long as they didn’t fall into the hands of Cat Hunter, it was better than anything.
Though puzzled by Ye Fan’s actions, he turned his thoughts around and a bold idea emerged in his mind.
"I’ve been exposed," Han Zizhen thought in distress, feeling complex.
Ye Fan, observing Shang Xiaoran and Han Zizhen’s expressions, chuckled before leisurely saying, "Scared, huh?"
"What do you think?" Shang Xiaoran, angry, was not far from Ye Fan, even spitting angry saliva onto Ye Fan’s face.
Ye Fan laughed softly, fully understanding Shang Xiaoran’s anger.
"If you don’t give me a reasonable explanation, I’m not done with you." Shang Xiaoran felt anger bubbling up within her, surging to the top.
"Don’t worry, you’ll thank me." Ye Fan said mysteriously.
"Thank you? You’re dreaming, right?" Shang Xiaoran mocked, shouting, "You crashed into us and pulled off this stunt, yet you expect me to thank you?"
"You’d better calm down and then listen to me. I don’t have much time; can’t wait for your anger to dissipate before explaining." Ye Fan said coolly.
Shang Xiaoran calmed her heartbeat and suppressed her fear and anger.
She regained her composure, realizing there must be a hidden agenda behind Ye Fan’s actions; he wouldn’t do such things just for fun.
"Go ahead, I’m listening." Shang Xiaoran’s voice softened.
"Your husband’s behavior these past few days has been very strange, have you noticed?" Ye Fan asked deliberately.
Shang Xiaoran shot Ye Fan a sharp look, then fixed her gaze on Han Zizhen.
Han Zizhen gave a bitter smile, muttering in his heart, "Indeed, I’ve been exposed."
Although he didn’t understand how he was exposed, this time it wasn’t just a suspicion—he was truly exposed, making him lower his head in shame, not daring to look Shang Xiaoran in the eyes, closing his eyes in disgrace.
How could Shang Xiaoran not understand her husband’s strange behavior these days?
"What’s wrong?" Shang Xiaoran had anticipated certain results but didn’t dare delve deeper, only waiting for Ye Fan to reveal them.
"Han Zizhen is a traitor, intertwined with Liu Anping’s death. The leak incident at the research institute, he is one of the culprits. He became our target since Liu Anping’s death, and has been tightly monitored ever since." Ye Fan explained.
Ye Fan elaborated, "These days, his unrest was due to receiving a crazy order to poison at Li Dingguo’s birthday banquet, aiming to kill as many institute members at once, thus affecting the progress of the research institute’s achievements."
"Indeed, knowing everything is better than enduring torment." Han Zizhen thought.
The anger Shang Xiaoran had suppressed surged like a tidal wave.
This time, no longer targeting Ye Fan, it shifted to another person.
"Why?" Shang Xiaoran stared intensely at Han Zizhen, angrily questioning.
At that moment, she sadly realized her husband, who shared her bed, had so many unspeakable secrets.
Instantly, an indescribable barrier stood between the couple.
The couple, meant to live in harmony, yet Han Zizhen hid so deeply, made Shang Xiaoran feel deceived—from start to finish, completely deceived.
Her love and wedding, all spent in a web of lies.
Why?
How could Han Zizhen answer why?
Once something goes wrong, one misstep leads to another.
Falling deeper and leaving evidence, there’s no turning back.
"When did this start?" Shang Xiaoran questioned again seeing Han Zizhen’s silence.
She was most concerned about whether Han Zizhen had been deceiving her from the beginning or turned bad after marriage.
"Five years ago, three years after we got married. I’m not that sinister; I just strayed from the path and couldn’t return." Han Zizhen explained, full of sorrow.
This issue needed clarification.
His feelings for Shang Xiaoran and their marriage were genuine; this had to be emphasized.
"You’re confused." Shang Xiaoran sobbed uncontrollably.
