Chapter 1520: Major Discovery
Inside the action group, Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, Li Tong, and others took action, while Niu Ben and Yang Yan were busy directing people.
In the car, Zhang Lu said puzzled, "So far, Wu Dayong has already been exposed. It is crucial to capture Wu Dayong with all our might. Is it somewhat rash to just let Li Tong lead people to capture him?"
In her opinion, as long as they captured Wu Dayong, they would definitely be able to extract more valuable clues.
However, sending Li Tong and a few others to capture Wu Dayong seemed somewhat insufficient and undermanned.
"Aren’t I suspecting that there’s a problem within the action group?" Ye Fan smiled and said, "Just taking this opportunity to test if there really is a problem within the action group."
"Isn’t it inappropriate to use someone as important as Wu Dayong as bait?" Zhang Lu had some objections.
"With sacrifice comes gain," Ye Fan said decisively. "Compared to Wu Dayong’s importance, an insider in the action group is more hazardous. I don’t need to say which is more significant."
"I hope Shen Yaqing, Qiu Wen, and Zhang Kui, among others, gain something from this." Zhang Lu had no further arguments against Ye Fan’s plan. She knew this arrangement was necessary and feasible.
Thinking about the possibility of an insider within the action group made Zhang Lu feel a chill down her spine; the danger and threat from her companions were self-evident.
Out of the six people in Zhang Lu’s group, she was the only one who appeared in the action group. Yang Shu, Shen Tingting, Qian Weiguo, Gao Qiang, and Zhang Kui had separate arrangements. Aside from Yang Shu and four others acting separately to secretly protect Li Dingguo and Liu Qianjin, Zhang Kui went to coordinate with Shen Yaqing and Qiu Wen.
The purpose of Qiu Wen, Shen Yaqing, and Zhang Kui was to monitor the action group’s every move.
Inside the action group, the only ones aware of the matter were Ye Fan, Zhang Lu, and Li Tong.
At this moment, Ye Fan received a message from Qiu Wen. He glanced at Zhang Lu and said, "It’s already proven that there’s a problem with the action group. It seems Wu Dayong is already aware of the danger. Li Tong and the others’ capture might be unsuccessful, but Qiu Wen and Zhang Kui have taken action in secret. Hopefully, it’s not too late to keep Wu Dayong within our sights."
"The most frightening part is confirming that a companion is an insider. When suspected, one might hope everyone is innocent. Now, that hope is gone," Zhang Lu lamented.
"Next, we’ll tamper with the phones of everyone in the action group and then pinpoint the suspect." Ye Fan had made up his mind. Since it’s known there’s a problem, naturally, the insider needs to be caught as soon as possible.
"I can’t tell who this insider might be." Zhang Lu pondered everyone’s situation in the action group, clueless and murmuring with no suspects in mind. She really couldn’t think of who might be the problem.
Ye Fan and Zhang Lu returned to Liu Anping’s room, carefully examining everything inside.
Since it was determined that Liu Anping committed suicide, and Wu Dayong and the woman in the red dress had left half an hour earlier when Liu Anping had his incident, the manner of the murder had to be clarified.
"I suspect that after we took the surveillance tapes from the institute, the mastermind gave the order to kill Liu Anping. The killer had already calculated the timing. Just as we arrived in front of the apartment, Liu Anping fell to his death. Everything was staged. The murderer calculated our arrival time, leading to Liu Anping’s death right in front of us," Zhang Lu remarked.
While thinking and contemplating possible murder methods, Ye Fan’s gaze landed on a stool near the window, as well as the smart robotic vacuum and vacuum cleaner, and he suddenly understood. "I get it. The killer controlled the unconscious Liu Anping on the stool, set a timer on the smart robotic vacuum, and configured a simple trap using the vacuum cleaner’s cord. When the time set on the robotic vacuum was up, it triggered the trap, causing Liu Anping to fall out the window."
"Oh?" Zhang Lu’s eyes lit up. She examined the items and their placement in the room again, then tried it according to Ye Fan’s explanation and delightedly said, "It’s solved. Liu Anping was murdered, and it was disguised as suicide. Finally, it’s cracked. There’s no need to suspect Liu Anping of suicide anymore; with solid evidence, it’s much better."
"Liu Anping dated Hao Min for a while. Looking at the smart vacuum and the cleaner, it’s evident these were gifts from the company where Hao Min works," Ye Fan keenly noticed.
Images of the company where Hao Min worked, a car dealership, flashed in Zhang Lu’s mind, and she suddenly understood.
"One thing puzzles me. It’s clear that Liu Anping was murdered—it’s obvious to us. Why did the enemy go through all this trouble? What are they trying to cover up? It’s so extravagant and strange?" Ye Fan muttered, confused.
"There must be some underlying motive," Zhang Lu murmured.
A notebook caught Ye Fan’s attention. On the paper, it was apparent that something had been written, and a page had been torn out—judging by the tear, not long ago.
"Do you have a pencil?" Ye Fan asked Zhang Lu.
"Let me look." Zhang Lu searched the room without finding a pencil and had to borrow one from Uncle Sun at the security office.
Ye Fan used the pencil to trace the paper, revealing some writing as he moved it.
Once all the writing had emerged completely, Ye Fan and Zhang Lu glanced at it and understood.
It was a receipt, involving an amount of two million.
The lender was a woman named Cheng Mu.
Who is this woman named Cheng Mu?
"It seems this situation is getting increasingly complex, but this woman, Cheng Mu, doesn’t appear to be a simple figure," Zhang Lu said thoughtfully.
"Small fry come out first; later, big fish gradually surface," Ye Fan said calmly. "Now I understand Liu Anping’s motivation for stealing from the institute. Everything was for money, and for that, he lost his life."
"Where did the money go? This woman named Cheng Mu needs to be investigated thoroughly," Zhang Lu was extremely pleased with such findings.
"It seems the killer made the murder so complicated to cover up the receipt issue, but unfortunately, the killer was careless, only dealing with the receipt but leaving clues," Ye Fan understood aspects he previously couldn’t.
Ye Fan and Zhang Lu didn’t find any more valuable clues in Liu Anping’s room.
As they left the research institute, a pair of eyes lurked in the shadows, spying on their departure.
