Chapter 1489: Venting Anger
The sky-high auction price caused an uproar.
Wealthy figures from all sides were taken aback, also puzzled.
To them, the Ancient Painting in front was no longer just a tattered old artwork but something containing a big secret unknown to them all.
To command such a staggering bid, it hinted at an extraordinary quality.
But what exactly was enigmatic about the painting, that remained beyond their knowledge.
Nagano Yoko and Charles were a bit stunned, almost at a loss.
"Five billion?" Nagano Yoko was dumbfounded, greatly shocked by the number. It’s not that the amount itself was intimidating, but the way the opponent came forward so aggressively, exuding an aura of dominance, putting great pressure on them.
If things continue this way, there wouldn’t be anything left for them. How do they even compete?
"So wealthy and extravagant. I always knew they were rich. After seeing their lavishness, I finally understand what true wealth means." Charles forced a dry laugh.
"Maybe, the party who bid five billion wasn’t Ye Fan and Mengyao." Hose raised this question.
"Who else if not them." Charles replied irritably.
"It must be them, it definitely is them." Nagano Yoko confidently declared.
In Nagano Yoko and Charles’s eyes, the bidder was undoubtedly Ye Fan and Mengyao. They had no doubt about this.
Among the three bids, Nagano Yoko offered ten million, intending to test the waters and see the opponent’s reaction.
With this action, they found out just how deep these waters ran. It truly felt unfathomably deep.
"Besides the five billion above our bid, there was another bid of one billion." Hose emphasized, as if to indicate that other forces were in play, and not all of Ye Fan’s opponents were participants. So, the person who bid so high might not be Ye Fan either.
Despite this suspicion, which even Hose found hard to believe, it was a direction for doubt.
Ying Zi said deeply, "If the persons who bid five billion were indeed Ye Fan and the others, then who is the one bidding one billion?"
"That point, it’s indeed a mystery, leaving people puzzled. Could it be, there is a hidden enemy we aren’t aware of, secretly watching?" Hose pondered, exercising maximum imagination to blame all potential outcomes on this.
"Impossible, absolutely impossible. If an enemy were lurking, they wouldn’t wait till now to act, and couldn’t possibly leave no trace." Nagano Yoko spoke resolutely.
"I think so too." Charles declared with conviction.
To Nagano Yoko and Charles, everything was going according to their judgment. They couldn’t believe there was a power more hidden than theirs that only surfaced now. That was an impossible scenario.
"Don’t forget, there’s the Black Cat Team." Hose reminded.
"Haha, them? Just a bunch of opportunists. They don’t have the guts." Nagano Yoko said dismissively, "Ma De and his crew better not land in my hands, or else, they won’t have a good time."
"Ma De and his people couldn’t even come up with five hundred million, let alone one billion or five billion." Charles stated as a matter of course.
It was because of their understanding of the Black Cat Team that they had these thoughts and notions.
From the current viewpoint, Mengyao offered one billion, Nagano Yoko bid ten million, so who then offered five billion?
This point, neither Nagano Yoko nor Charles could comprehend, simply attributing it to Ye Fan and the others based on assumptions.
"I have another suspicion, could it be that Ye Fan and Mengyao split into two groups, deliberately creating confusion?" Hose raised another doubt, in his view, Ye Fan and Mengyao possibly bid five billion and one billion respectively.
"There’s no point in talking," Charles pondered for a moment, firmly asserting, "Let’s focus on the second-round bidding."
"That’s for sure, and we have to achieve ultimate victory." Nagano Yoko said with a determined expression.
Meanwhile,
In the booth where the three members of the Black Cat Team were located.
Ma De was all smiles, unable to conceal his smugness and cunning.
"Captain, we’re just here to watch the show, there’s no need to bid. Why go to such lengths? That’s like biting off more than one can chew." Someone advised earnestly.
"We should keep a low profile to avoid arousing anyone else’s enmity." Another expressed with deep concerns.
"As long as the enemy is present, whether provoked or not, they remain the enemy." Ma De stated, "Our current situation is quite unfavorable, but some things must be done. Even if it amounts to nothing, participation is necessary."
"But if you bid too high, we can’t afford it. Even if we pledge our lives, we couldn’t repay." Someone advised, feeling worried about Ma De’s reckless behavior.
"For the first round of bidding, I directly offered five billion." Ma De said nonchalantly.
"What? You’re joking, right, Captain? If you want to boast, don’t do it that way. It won’t work, I won’t believe it." One person dismissed.
"I don’t believe it either. Five billion, what’s that concept?" Another shook his head in disbelief, advising with genuine concern, "Captain, we should be down-to-earth, don’t play around with fantasies, and stop pretending before us."
"See for yourself." Ma De tossed the bidding device to one person, too lazy to explain further.
"Ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, hundred thousand, million, billion..." One began counting, his eyes growing larger and larger, finally exclaiming, "Captain, are you insane? Have you gone mad?"
"Is it really five billion?" Another swallowed hard, unable to believe it. "Captain, are you sick?"
"So easily surprised." Ma De glanced at the two, then spoke with an air of mystery, "What do you know? In terms of strength, we can’t rival our enemies, and the likelihood of obtaining the map fragments is slim. But I refuse to accept this, let alone after traveling a long way, the deaths of companions chill one’s heart. Seizing the moment while Ye Fan and Nagano Yoko are busy bidding, I impulsively set an absurdly high price, then let them compete. Although I’m not their match, financially, I’ll bite hard, even if just to vent."
"Just for the sake of venting, you’d dare do that? Captain, are you out of your mind, or out of your mind?" Someone questioned with sharp eyes.
"I think he’s mostly gone mad." The other agreed.
Ma De’s actions genuinely angered them.
