My Professions Have Too Much Personality

After sorting through all the information he’d gathered, his thoughts inevitably drifted back to Qin Tianlin.

’A plundering profession... what does that even entail? Are there any repercussions?’ Su Chen was genuinely curious; after all, it sounded completely insane.

’But this isn’t entirely a bad thing for me. When the time comes, I can leak Qin Tianlin’s information to that old codger, Black Tuo. It’ll be the perfect way to make my story hold up.’

Su Chen’s mind raced. If Qin Tianlin turned out to be nothing special, Su Chen would likely have no reason to contact Black Tuo as one of his followers once this was all over.

’After all, what’s the use of a Believer who can’t get things done?’

’Better yet, if the timing is right, maybe I can get Black Tuo to kill Qin Tianlin before the Bronze Ancient King kills him.’

’Or maybe have Lan Hao try to contact Qin Tianlin?’

Su Chen considered it for a moment, then shook his head. Lan Hao would never do something so risky. Qin Tianlin’s and Qin Guang’s statuses were worlds apart.

Lost in thought, he opened his panel for a look. Due to fusing with the Vajra Venerable, all the essence he had collected recently was completely gone.

’I have to keep collecting essence. Without it, ascending to Vajra Venerable would have been much, much harder.’

Although it had hardly been simple from his perspective, Su Chen knew that a normal three-in-one fusion without using essence would have been far more difficult.

Then there were the Celestial Forged Objects. The Vajra Venerable required five different types, and that stuff was expensive. Five of them would cost at least 2.5 billion star coins.

The single one he’d gotten from Wei Fan last time had wiped out almost all of his savings.

’Still, I gave him those thirty Mother Stones last time and haven’t heard anything back. Maybe I can start openly bringing out more of them.’

His status was different now. As long as those Netherworld Mother Stones didn’t seem to have come from within the Sect, no one should question it too much.

’My relationship with that Centipede Dragon has also improved, so I should be able to dig up more Netherworld Mother Stones. Buying the Celestial Forged Objects shouldn’t be much of a problem.’

Su Chen reviewed his plan. The most important thing right now was to advance to Tier Six as quickly as possible, become the Vajra Venerable, complete the Melting Holy Profession, and do his best to help the Bronze Ancient King solve his problem with the Flame Fire.

’That way, I’ll have a safer space to grow stronger.’

Su Chen took out a vial of Thunder Juice Potion and downed it, entering a state of cultivation. At the same time, he raised his body temperature to prevent the molten Celestial Forged Object from solidifying.

...

Qin Guang’s death quickly sparked widespread discussion within the Sect, alarming many of the mid- to low-level members.

He was, after all, a Venerable’s son. To them, his status was more than noble enough. For him to die so quietly, and with rumors of the Deceitful God’s Followers being involved, put everyone on edge.

Although Wu Feng had failed to investigate Qin Yun’s death, he kicked off a wave of internal screenings, tightening security considerably. Fortunately, Ming Lin and the others had already stopped purchasing Deceitful God’s Power some time ago.

The Qin Family also took action, investigating numerous people, but they ultimately failed to find any concrete leads.

As time went on, it seemed as if Qin Guang’s death might just be quietly dropped.

...

"They found nothing?"

In the Lan Family’s reception room, Lan Hao’s eyes were filled with shock and suspicion. The shifty-eyed man before him nodded. "That’s right. The Qin Family’s efforts were all for nothing. They found absolutely nothing."

"It’s strange, isn’t it? Why didn’t they let the Punishment Hall get involved from the start?" the man asked, seemingly confused. "Only the Punishment Hall has the authority to investigate every department in the Sect. The Qin Family investigating on their own was bound to turn up nothing."

’That’s because the Qin Family isn’t clean themselves.’ Lan Hao had known that for a while. What surprised him was that the Qin Family hadn’t found a single shred of evidence.

The man before him chattered on, "Brother Lan, who do you think did it? To think our Sect has been infiltrated so deeply by the Deceitful God’s Followers... I’m getting a little scared."

"I mean, what am I supposed to do if the Deceitful God’s Followers come after me someday?"

"That’s enough," Lan Hao said, shooting him a cold glance. "As if the Deceitful God’s Followers would ever waste their time on you. Don’t be ridiculous."

The man gave an awkward smile before Lan Hao ushered him out.

Leaving the reception room, Lan Hao frowned, completely bewildered. ’I didn’t deploy many people, but it’s not like there were no traces to follow. Is the Qin Family really that incompetent?’

’Sigh, I never should have agreed to it.’ Lan Hao heaved a deep sigh, filled with regret. He felt like he’d been completely played by that Deceitful God’s Follower.

The methods the person used had indeed saved him some effort, but while resting a while back, he’d faintly seen a terrifying image of the Deceitful God, which had scared him half to death.

The only silver lining was that, aside from the nightmares, he hadn’t noticed any other side effects.

’I just hope that Deceitful God’s Follower doesn’t assign me any more missions anytime soon.’

As he was thinking this, he pushed open the door to his room, only to freeze on the spot. A figure was standing inside, hands clasped behind his back.

"Dad?" he couldn’t help but call out. The visitor was none other than his father, Lanhai, who had recently been working with Master Qing to build a new satellite city.

Wan Chen’s father was involved as well. After the Peak Star Conference, it would finally be decided whether the Lan Family or the Wan Family would take control of the Town Guard Army.

Because of this, he hadn’t seen Lanhai in a very long time.

"What’s wrong? Not happy to see me?" Lanhai turned around, a faint, unreadable smile on his face.

"No, just a bit surprised, that’s all." Lan Hao felt a flicker of nervousness, but he wasn’t the same person he used to be. Betraying nothing on his face, he walked calmly to the side and began to brew some tea.

"How are the preparations for your profession advancement coming along?" Lanhai asked, sitting at the table and feigning a casual tone.
