Chapter 501 - 281: Becoming a Holy Mark Physician, An Audience with the Ancient King?
As the red-copper doors slid open, Su Chen couldn’t help but think, ’The Sect must have quite a few people like that Brother Ku.’
A Tier Nine Professional theoretically had a lifespan of six hundred years. The first two hundred were spent climbing the ranks, followed by roughly two hundred years at their peak. After the age of four hundred, their physical functions would begin to gradually decline.
Hidden ailments or severe injuries would shorten this natural lifespan even further.
Generally, once their physical functions began to decline, they would enter retirement and were rarely seen.
But if the Sect ever truly faced a crisis, they would become one of its most terrifying hidden strengths.
Su Chen gained a much deeper understanding of why the Four Great Sects were using the Peak Star Conference to de-escalate the situation.
’It’s not just because of the Bronze Ancient King. Who knows what kind of destruction they’d cause if let loose.’ Su Chen was inwardly astonished. ’A Tier Nine Professional with no attachments, a heart full of vengeance, and no fear of death... The very thought is terrifying.’
The red-copper doors closed behind him, but Su Chen stopped in his tracks.
He looked up and saw a figure waiting for him not far away, hands clasped behind his back, eyes glinting sharply.
"Senior Brother Qing Cang." He was surprised. The newcomer was Qing Cang, and it seemed he had been waiting here for him.
Qing Cang stared at him intently, the sharp glint in his eyes practically overflowing. The intensity of his gaze made Su Chen’s skin crawl, and he couldn’t help but call out again, "Senior Brother?"
Qing Cang seemed to snap out of it. The sharp glint in his eyes faded as he nodded. "I went to your Floating Island, but I couldn’t find you. Then I went to Wei Zhenghong’s Floating Island and saw you weren’t there, either."
"It was only after checking the records that I learned you had come to the Creation Copper Heart. You really refuse to give yourself a moment’s rest," he said, his tone tinged with emotion.
"I’ve been looking forward to visiting the Creation Copper Heart for a long time. Now that I had the chance, I came to see it for myself," Su Chen explained.
Qing Cang didn’t dwell on it and instead asked, "What did you think of it?"
A look of amazement crossed Su Chen’s face. "It truly lives up to its reputation as the place everyone in the Bronze Sect longs to see."
"Haha." Qing Cang let out a hearty laugh. He wasn’t surprised by Su Chen’s reaction; everyone who experienced the Creation Copper Heart for the first time was like this. In fact, Su Chen’s reaction was already quite composed.
"Senior Brother, you seemed to be in a hurry to find me. Is something wrong?" Su Chen couldn’t help but ask.
Qing Cang nodded, his expression growing solemn. "Master wants to see you."
’The Ancient King wants to see me?’
Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat as countless theories flooded his mind. It seemed the disturbance he had caused was significant enough to have alarmed the Ancient King.
Even setting his rank on the stele when he first arrived at the Sect hadn’t disturbed the Ancient King. The last time the Ancient King Stele showed an anomaly, he hadn’t been summoned either. This time was different.
’Is he going to ask why my power has increased so quickly?’ Su Chen couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.
He held a certain reverence for the Bronze Ancient King. After several encounters, he found the great man’s abilities to be simply inconceivable.
"Why is Master in such a hurry to see me? Do you know what it’s about?" Su Chen asked tentatively.
Qing Cang frowned slightly. "I don’t know the specifics. I have my guesses, but I can’t be certain... so it’s best if I don’t say."
Qing Cang was being so secretive that Su Chen couldn’t make heads or tails of it. A faint sense of dread crept into his heart, but he knew better than to press the issue.
’This kid...’ Qing Cang found Su Chen’s reaction somewhat amusing. ’Someone who grew up on a Desolate Planet really does overthink things.’
"You’ll find out when we get there," Qing Cang said. In a flash, he appeared by Su Chen’s side and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Without seeing him make any other movement, Su Chen felt the scenery around him blur. A fierce wind enveloped him, and a cyan-white stream of air coiled around his body like a giant python. A piercing shriek echoed in his ears as they shot abruptly toward the heavens.
With a direct order from the Ancient King, Qing Cang naturally disregarded the rule against flying above the Copper Heart.
’This is way too fast.’ Su Chen was shaken. In the blink of an eye, the Copper Heart had shrunk to a tiny dot below them.
Meanwhile, the Flame Fire grew closer and larger, yet its temperature didn’t rise. He only felt a pleasant warmth. The closer they got, the stronger and more comfortable this warmth became.
’This Flame Fire really is something else,’ Su Chen thought instinctively. But before the thought could even fully form, he found himself standing before the Ancient King Hall.
He swayed slightly as the currents of wind beside him coalesced into the figure of Qing Cang.
"So this is the Ancient King Hall?" Su Chen looked up at the bronze palace before him. It was as massive as a mountain, seemingly built for a giant. Thick chains plunged from its edges into the Flame Fire below, their ends lost to sight.
"Let’s go." Qing Cang’s expression was grave as he led the way.
Su Chen hesitated for a moment before following him inside.
The bronze doors were carved with some kind of constantly shifting pattern. Though only open a crack, the gap was wide enough for the two of them to pass through.
The hall was bright. The first thing that met his eyes was a giant sitting cross-legged in the center. Filaments of light descended from the Copper Star suspended from the ceiling, weaving into a canopy.
The light passed between the Bronze Giant’s fingers and over its shoulder blades, creating flowing patterns like liquid gold across its seated body.
The giant’s entire body was cast from bronze, yet its cross-legged posture had the relaxed air of a living being. An ethereal green light swirled within its pupils.
’He’s identical to his projection,’ Su Chen thought in surprise. ’What kind of Professional is the Bronze Ancient King, anyway? Mechanical?’
’Did he modify his entire body into this special structure, or does one automatically become like this upon taking up the Profession?’
Beside the Bronze Ancient King stood five metal statues, each a different color and all without facial features. The moment Su Chen entered, one of the statues began to hum faintly, its surface igniting with crimson flames as if cheering in delight.
"Is that a Great Venerable?" Su Chen asked, looking over.
Qing Cang, who was walking ahead, was quite surprised. ’Chu Lingyuan and Qin Yun have come here so many times, but I’ve never seen a Spiritual hum. His compatibility is truly high.’
However, the humming lasted only for a moment before it faded.
"Spirit Attachment..." the Bronze Ancient King said suddenly. "Instances like this are few and far between, even among those with a Star Seed."
’So that’s Spirit Attachment?’
Qing Cang had a sudden realization. He was not a Morning Star Tier and had never been chosen, so he didn’t understand this phenomenon, having only heard of it.
’What’s Spirit Attachment?’ Su Chen looked completely lost.
"Spirit Attachment means you have an extreme compatibility with the Spiritual nature. It may even provide simple forms of assistance to help the chosen one grow," the Bronze Ancient King explained.
’So that’s what it is.’ Su Chen finally understood. ’The Spiritual nature of the Morning Star Tier can indeed provide assistance; it’s not a phenomenon unique to me, but it is uncommon even among those with a Star Seed.’
After a brief hesitation, Su Chen said, "Thank you for the clarification, Master."
By rights, he should have addressed him as "Martial Uncle."
However, after calling him "Master" so many times in front of Qing Cang, it would be strange not to address him that way to his face.
Hearing that respectful "Master," Qing Cang felt a pang of complicated emotions. Originally, that title should have been for him.
"Mm." The Bronze Ancient King inclined his head slightly. His gaze felt tangible as it rested on Su Chen, who felt the pressure on his shoulders grow heavier.
Then, a deep, heavy voice echoed through the hall. "You are even more exceptional than I anticipated."
Su Chen fell silent for a moment upon hearing this, then said, "It is all thanks to your prestige, Master."
Those were just empty words. There were many things about him that couldn’t be explained—things that went far beyond what a Star Amber Level Talent, a Star Seed, or even the so-called Spirit Attachment could account for.
Qing Cang had likely known for a long time. Now, many people in the Sect knew, which meant the Bronze Ancient King certainly knew too.
"At your current pace, you might have a chance to advance to the Morning Star Tier before you turn one hundred," the Bronze Ancient King said leisurely.
Qing Cang was inwardly shaken. ’Advance to the Morning Star Tier before one hundred?’
’A hundred years old?’ Su Chen thought to himself. From the perspective of his current lifespan, that still felt like a long time.
"However..." The Bronze Ancient King’s tone shifted, and Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat.
"I’m rather curious... what exactly did you do to make the Tomb Spirit so furious?"
’The Tomb Spirit was furious?’ Qing Cang froze. ’He means the Ancient King Stele?’
The last anomaly with the Ancient King Stele did seem to be caused by Su Chen, but it was because the spirit was furious?
He was astonished. ’How could someone anger the Ancient King Stele? What on earth did Su Chen do?’
’He’s asking about the Ancient King Stele?’ Su Chen felt a wave of relief, though he was also surprised. He had thought the Ancient King was going to ask how many special Professions he had, why his strength was so formidable, or how his Talent had improved so rapidly.
