Chapter 495 - 278: 6th-Order Champion Su Chen
In reality, however, Venerable Qin Yun was still alive. And thanks to the events of the Peak Star Conference, the overall situation was still under control.
Although Qin Tianlin wasn’t a Star Seed, his future achievements wouldn’t necessarily be insignificant.
Having had a Morning Star Tier ancestor, Zhou Yunyang knew far more than others. Tier Nine and the Morning Star Tier were essentially the same Tier, just different manifestations of the same path.
The Morning Star Tier was widely acknowledged as more powerful than Tier Nine, but if a Tier Nine Professional could forge enough Holy Professions, it wasn’t impossible for them to contend with one.
Based on past experience, a Tier Nine Professional needed a minimum of two more Holy Professions than their Morning Star Tier counterpart to even stand a chance.
For an ordinary person, this was an insurmountable task, but for someone at the Divine Dawn Level, it was not entirely impossible.
Of course, the gap in lifespan was impossible to bridge.
Failing to become a Star Seed didn’t mean Qin Tianlin was without hope. Qin Yun was the present, which meant Qin Tianlin was the future. Zhou Yunyang saw this with perfect clarity.
Noticing the shifting expressions in the crowd, Qin Guang sneered inwardly. ’Venerable Qin Yun may be lying low for now, but our lineage still has many interests to fight for. We can’t afford to just stay silent.’
’It’s time to make these people understand that we are still at the height of our power. How dare they let a phrase like "ask the Venerable to go to her death" circulate? They truly don’t know the meaning of life and death.’
’A Divine Dawn Level...’ Liao Yunfan thought, watching Qin Tianlin being fawned over by the crowd, unable to suppress a pang of envy. ’Before ascending to the Morning Star Tier, an ordinary Star Seed really is a step below someone at the Divine Dawn Level.’
’Unless someone is both Divine Dawn Level *and* a Star Seed—that would be a true prodigy. But due to various factors, such cases are extremely rare, even in the Dust Star Sea.’
"Senior Brother Xiang," Qin Tianlin suddenly called out.
The crowd snapped back to attention. A rather unremarkable-looking young man squeezed his way out from among them. It was the previous champion, Xiang Zhou.
"Junior Brother," he said, his voice heavy.
Many people began to speculate. ’Is Xiang Zhou here to take back his title as champion?’
"Have you come to update your projection data, Senior Brother?" Qin Tianlin asked with a smile.
Xiang Zhou nodded silently.
Wei Zhenghong’s eyes shifted. ’Xiang Zhou hasn’t updated his projection data in a long time. Perhaps he has a chance to take the title back?’
A glimmer of hope lit up in the eyes of those around who weren’t from Venerable Qin Yun’s faction, and even some who held grudges against them.
Qin Tianlin, however, showed no intention of stopping him. Stepping aside, he gestured. "Please, Senior Brother."
The taciturn Xiang Zhou met the crowd’s gazes and walked into the challenge center.
Qin Guang couldn’t help but feel a flicker of worry. ’If the champion title we just won gets taken back, it’ll be a huge loss of face.’
But seeing Qin Tianlin’s confident expression, as if victory was already assured, he couldn’t help but calm down.
Having secured the champion’s title, Qin Tianlin seemed even more confident and composed. He spoke slowly, "I just emerged from the challenge chamber and heard several of you exclaiming ’Su Chen’."
"Did something happen to this Star Seed, Su Chen?"
"Nothing much," Wei Zhenghong said, his face devoid of expression. "He only just broke into the top one hundred of the Holy List."
’The top one hundred of the Holy List...’ Qin Tianlin’s expression faltered.
’Su Chen? He actually...’
He was genuinely shocked. ’That growth rate is just too fast.’
’Could he actually catch up to me?’ The thought surfaced in his mind, but he immediately quashed it. ’I possess a Divine Dawn Level Talent.’
’Besides, I’m now the Tier Six champion. It won’t be long before I advance to Tier Seven; I’m not just standing still.’
’Su Chen might have his specialties, but it’s absolutely impossible for him to catch up to me.’
"As expected of a Star Seed," Qin Tianlin remarked.
Wei Zhenghong felt a wave of disgust. ’I can’t stand this condescending attitude of his, acting all high and mighty.’
He wanted to retort, but he held his tongue. There was no point.
Qin Guang, however, spoke up. "Later today, the Qin Family will be hosting a celebratory banquet. Will you two be available?"
"Not interested," Wei Zhenghong refused flatly.
Shen Yi’an also declined politely. "I have some things to take care of."
Qin Tianlin collected himself and said calmly, "You two senior brothers must be waiting for Xiang Zhou’s results, correct?"
Wei Zhenghong didn’t deny it. After all, he’d already witnessed Qin Tianlin seize the title; waiting a bit longer was no big deal. If he could see Xiang Zhou take it back, it would be well worth the wait.
"Then let’s wait inside. It’s too conspicuous out here." Qin Tianlin issued the invitation, fully aware of what Wei Zhenghong was thinking. He naturally wanted Wei Zhenghong to witness firsthand that his title as champion was unshakeable.
Seeing his brazen confidence, Wei Zhenghong snorted to himself.
He certainly wasn’t one to back down, so he followed Qin Tianlin into the challenge center. The crowd automatically parted, clearing a path straight to the challenge chamber Xiang Zhou had entered.
However, just as Wei Zhenghong’s group stepped inside, the metal door swung open.
Xiang Zhou walked out, his brow deeply furrowed.
’So soon?’
Seeing his expression, Wei Zhenghong understood immediately and felt a pang of disappointment. ’Still couldn’t win.’
Qin Guang’s heart settled, but he deliberately asked, "Nephew Xiang, how did it go?"
Xiang Zhou sighed inwardly. After just one exchange, he knew he couldn’t defeat Qin Tianlin anytime soon. He couldn’t even breach his defenses; there was simply nothing he could do.
’I haven’t focused on pure offense, instead opting for a balanced build. My damage output is simply insufficient. While I could probably wear him down a little with my agility, it would be pointless. A loss is a loss.’
Just as he was about to respond, faint shouts drifted in from outside the challenge center. "...The champion... has changed!"
"Changed? Did Xiang Zhou win?" someone behind Wei Zhenghong asked in surprise.
Xiang Zhou looked dumbfounded. ’Won? Who won?’
’I didn’t win!’
The people crowded at the front were all waiting for Xiang Zhou to emerge and give his report; they hadn’t opened their virtual screens to check the results.
Meanwhile, those at the back and outside the challenge center could only check the real-time rankings to see if Xiang Zhou had won.
The clamor outside the challenge center grew louder, punctuated by faint, shocked cries of "How is that possible?"
"He won?" Qin Tianlin’s expression shifted as he looked at the bewildered Xiang Zhou.
’How is that possible? Xiang Zhou has already maxed out his potential at Tier Six, and it’s even less likely that he’d waste time preparing a Profession outside his Holy Profession Sequence. The best he could hope for was a stalemate; winning was impossible.’
"This..." Someone nearby had already pulled up a virtual screen. After a single glance, they sucked in a sharp breath, their cheek twitching. "This... How could this..."
He mumbled to himself, clearly shaken to the core. The people beside him didn’t bother asking questions, instead scrambling to open their own virtual screens.
As if in a synchronized motion, everyone had nearly the same reaction: their faces froze, their expressions stiffened, and a constant, hissing sound of sharp inhales filled the air as they all muttered the same four words: "How is that possible?"
"What in the world is going on?" No longer caring about anything else, Qin Tianlin quickly raised his hand and pulled up his own virtual screen.
The Holy List rankings refreshed. He barely needed to scroll; the top twenty names filled the entire screen.
His eyes instantly locked onto his previous position.
This... Qin Tianlin’s expression contorted. His pupils trembled as if he’d been struck by lightning. His scalp went numb and his entire body froze, the faint roar of thunder echoing in his ears.
A name that had no business being there was listed in its place!
Holy List Rank 11, Tier Six Champion—Su Chen!
"Impossible!"
Beside him, Qin Guang went pale with horror and began shouting, "Impossible! This is impossible! The system must be broken! How could it possibly be him?"
"How could he be the Tier Six champion? He’s only Tier Five! Tier Five!"
Qin Guang kept shouting, but no one paid him any attention. Every single person was staring at their virtual screen, and the entire challenge center seemed to have fallen deathly silent.
Shen Yi’an clenched his fists, his heart pounding. Su Chen breaking into the Holy List’s top one hundred had been surprising, but it was at least foreshadowed by his feat of taking the Tier Five champion title while only at Tier Four. That, he could accept.
But what had just happened was far beyond his wildest imagination. It was simply unbelievable.
"BWAHAHAHA...!" A sudden roar of laughter erupted beside him. It was Wei Zhenghong, his face flushed red, his booming voice loud enough to echo outside the challenge center.
Many people around them instinctively turned their heads toward the sound, but their eyes remained unfocused, clearly still reeling from the shock.
"Today is truly a day for celebration! So many records broken at once! The record for the youngest Tier Six champion has been shattered again, and by a Tier Five, no less!"
"But of course, there is one more, most important record."
Wei Zhenghong’s gaze fell upon the still-dazed Qin Tianlin, his voice booming louder and louder, like a thunderclap. "And that is the record for the shortest reign as champion in the history of the Sect!"
