Chapter 152: The Head Wife’s Scheme
They appeared to be in the middle of a private meeting. Standing in the center of the hall was Kael, his expression dark and ugly. His mother, Lily, looked at him and asked in a calm yet sharp voice,
"My son... what did you find out?"
As the rumors of Nyxara’s return spread rapidly across the Royal City — rumors that she had come back holding hands intimately with a charming man — they soon reached the royal castle of the Demon Lord itself.
The Head Wife, Lily, who had always hated Nyxara and had also played a role in the death of Nyxara’s mother, immediately sent her two sons to investigate and confirm whether the rumors were true.
Naturally, Kael and Ravik followed their mother’s orders.
Now, inside the castle, Lily had already gathered the other main wives for a meeting regarding the situation. Kael stood before them with an ugly expression full of suppressed anger.
His younger brother Ravik, who had always been a natural coward, had locked himself inside his chamber, scared out of his mind.
Lily still did not understand what exactly had happened. She looked at her son and waited as Kael finally began to speak.
"Yes... she is back," Kael said. "And not only that — her strength has increased drastically. Somehow... she has broken through to the Sovereign Realm."
The grand throne hall fell into complete silence.
How was that even possible? Everyone present knew how difficult it was to break through to the Sovereign Realm. On top of that, Nyxara was still extremely young. There had to be some hidden reason behind such a miraculous advancement.
But the most important issue was something else entirely.
With this breakthrough, Nyxara had become the strongest member of the entire Zarok Clan after her father. Not even the Demon Lord’s own generals had managed to reach the Sovereign Realm.
This made her a serious threat to Lily’s sons and their chances of inheriting the throne in the future.
Similar thoughts flashed through the minds of all the wives present. However, they all knew Lily would be affected the most. She had a deep enmity with Nyxara — the daughter of the woman who had once taken her place.
Kael continued speaking.
"She has also brought a man with her. He seems to possess a royal bloodline as well. His demonic aura was as pure as ours... which is even more absurd. No other clan has demonic energy as pure as the Zarok Clan."
"He also has a distinct skin color that doesn’t belong to any royal demon clan we know of. Fortunately... he is only a low-level King Realm bug."
Kael’s words once again shocked everyone in the hall. Who exactly was this man that Nyxara had brought back with her,
especially when she was already engaged to the son of the Demon Lord of the Sloth Clan? On top of that, he carried a royal bloodline that none of them recognized.
Kael deliberately hid one detail — that Nova was the most handsome male demon he had ever seen. If the Demon Lord’s wives were to lay eyes on him, more than a few of them might start drooling over his appearance.
Lily’s expression had completely changed. Only a few minutes earlier she had been sitting with a smug and mighty air, but now she was gritting her teeth as she finally understood the gravity of the situation.
She looked at her son and asked coldly,
"Kael... what exactly did that bitch say?"
Kael gulped when he heard the anger in his mother’s voice and answered truthfully.
"She said she wants a meeting with you, since Father is not present at the moment. After that... she plans to leave the Abyss. She also said that one of our sisters will have to marry that pig in her place."
Crack—!
Lily suddenly stood up. Her killing intent flared violently. As a Level 5 Emperor, her strength was the highest among all the Demon Lord’s wives. The armrest of her chair shattered under her grip as she shouted,
"SHE DARES!!"
Her demonic aura and killing intent exploded across the hall. The pressure was so heavy that the other wives gritted their teeth under it, while those who had not yet reached the Emperor Realm simply passed out.
Still, none of them dared to object. Every wife feared Lily — she was the Demon Lord’s current favorite, after all.
Lily’s voice rang out sharply as she began issuing orders. "Contact your father immediately. Try as many times as necessary until you reach him!"
"Call the generals and prepare the royal arena. Send her an invitation — tell her we will hold a meeting, but it will take place in the arena.
One of your brothers will challenge her husband. During the match, that insect of a husband she brought can be killed ’accidentally.’"
"She won’t be able to do anything about it if she agrees beforehand. Her pride won’t allow her to refuse a formal challenge."
"Tell her that the Head Wife wishes to see whether the man she brought back is worthy of standing by her side."
Lily’s eyes turned colder.
"And keep trying to contact your father. If she leaves the Abyss, it will become far more difficult for us to deal with her because of that annoying Space ability of hers."
After Lily finished speaking, her aura and killing intent gradually subsided. The other wives finally began taking heavy breaths again. Kael remained completely unaffected, as his strength was similar to his mother’s.
Fortunately, there were no servants present in the hall at that moment. Otherwise, more than a few of them would have died under the pressure of Lily’s aura. She was a truly ruthless woman who cared for no one except her husband and her own children.
In mere seconds, she had already formulated a plan.
She still believed she could handle Nyxara. Even after becoming a Sovereign, that girl had always been soft-hearted. Lily was certain she would not go so far as to kill her or her sons out of revenge. That softness was something she fully intended to take advantage of.
Her plan was simple. She would have one of her sons challenge the man Nyxara was claiming to be her husband and have him killed "accidentally" during the match.
As long as Nyxara agreed to the challenge beforehand, she would not be able to interfere once the fight began. Lily would make sure of that.
Kael nodded.
"Alright, Mother. But who will fight him? Although I said he was only a low-level King Realm warrior... there was something unique about him that I couldn’t quite place. It would be better to send someone stronger."
Lily answered without hesitation.
"Vex will fight him. He is a Level 1 Emperor. Tell him to suppress his strength if necessary. He will still have more than enough power to kill that man.
That bitch cannot be trusted — it is possible the man is hiding his true strength. There is no way she would marry someone that weak."
Lily’s reasoning was logical. Kael nodded once more and left the hall to make the necessary arrangements. Once again, silence fell over the grand throne hall.
....
Back at Nyxara’s mansion, Nyxara, Nova, and Velena were seated on soft sofas inside the large reception hall.
By now, Nyxara had already explained everything to Velena — including her plan and the fact that Nova was only acting as her husband.
Nova still wanted to confirm whether the maid could truly be trusted. Using his mind communication technique, he quietly asked Nyxara about it. She didn’t seem surprised by the sudden voice in her head and answered calmly.
According to her, Velena was the only person she could completely trust. She had originally been her mother’s personal maid and closest friend, and after her mother’s death, she had continued to stay by Nyxara’s side.
Nova thought to himself that if Rieka were here right now, he wouldn’t need to worry about such things at all. Still, he decided to trust Nyxara’s judgment. She might be a little crazy, but she was far from stupid.
Surprisingly, Velena did not react with much shock. She simply asked a few calm questions about Nova’s origin and how he came to possess demonic aura as pure as that of the royals.
Nyxara explained the story Nova had told her earlier. For some reason, Velena did not seem to fully believe it... but she chose not to press the matter any further.
Nova looked around the spacious hall and asked, "I don’t see any other maids?"
This time Velena answered herself. Since the question concerned the household and her duties, she felt it was her responsibility as a proud maid to respond.
"The princess has only one maid — me.
Although the Demon Lord once ordered her to keep at least a hundred servants, she refused. She said she only needed me."
