Chapter 146: Leaving the Fourth Level
"But you have to promise me something first. If you don’t... you can just kill me here. And then you won’t be able to escape that marriage."
Nyxara’s eyes immediately turned cold again as she listened to his words.
"...What is it?"
Nova’s expression turned serious. He spoke confidently, yet remained cautious.
"I’ll follow your plan. Originally I only wanted you to take me out of the Fourth Level... but since I’m helping you with this, you also have to get me out of the Abyss and back to the human continent."
Nyxara listened to his request and narrowed her eyes slightly.
"And why would you want to go back to the human continent? You’re a demon. It’s better for you to stay in the Abyss. What if the one who was chasing you catches you again and kills you the moment you return?"
Nova understood her point. According to the story he had told her, he had only come to the Abyss as a last resort to escape a Twilight Order member. No sane person would willingly return to a place where death was waiting for them.
He met her gaze and answered carefully.
"You’re right... but I’ll go back in disguise for now. I also have to attend the Grand Youth Tournament on the human continent."
Nyxara raised her eyebrows.
"Aren’t you a bit too strong for that competition? From what I know, mostly Grandmasters youths participate, with only a few genius low level King Realm youths appearing in the past. Your aura already feels like peak King Realm."
Nova nodded. She could clearly sense his natural aura, so there was no point denying it.
"Yeah, I won’t deny that. But I have to win one of the passes to the secret realm. I need to enter it and look for opportunities to become even stronger."
"I’ll just hide my true strength and only reveal the power of a Grandmaster Realm warrior. I have a unique skill that lets me do that, and no one will be able to see through it unless I intentionally let them sense my aura, like I did with you.
Though... I suppose that puts me in danger as well. I heard Lady Aurora is coming, and she’s a Sovereign just like you."
The moment Nyxara heard Aurora’s name, her expression turned ice-cold, and an overwhelming killing intent burst from her.
Nova immediately sensed the sudden change but wisely kept his mouth shut, knowing it was best not to involve himself in matters that didn’t concern him.
Nyxara stared at his face for a few seconds in silence with cold eyes. No one could tell what she was thinking. Then she turned around and finally spoke.
"Alright. I’ll take you back to the human continent... but I’m going with you."
Nova’s eyes widened. If she came with him, it could easily expose his secrets.
"Why would you do that?" he asked quickly. "You should just stay here." Nyxara turned back toward him with a clear frown.
"Don’t tell me what to do. I do what I want. It’s been a very long time since I last visited the human continent, so I’ve decided to go. And you can’t do anything about it."
Nova could only sigh inwardly. He still needed to find a way to handle this situation before she followed him to the human continent... and he especially needed to warn both of his wives.
{ Just follow her instructions and get on her good side. She’s the only one who can help you stay alive in the Abyss right now.}
{You might be able to hide from the beasts on this level, but once you reach the Third Floor — where high-level Demons and Demon generals and Demon Lords live — you won’t be able to do anything on your own. }
Nova understood Liya’s words clearly. She was right. Moreover, despite belonging to a ruthless royal demon clan, Nyxara did not seem like a purely evil person.
After meeting her, Nova realized something important. Demons were not that different from humans. So far, he had only met beast-folk and demons in this world, but from what he had seen, both races seemed to share a similar mindset.
He had always imagined the demon world to be a completely lawless place. He never expected it to be so structured, with its own rules and regulations.
Of course, he still needed to confirm whether this applied only to royal demons or to the rest of the Abyss as well. After all, he had already met Azren and Voren, and even they hadn’t seemed that different from humans in the way they thought and acted.
Nova looked at Nyxara and said, "Alright, let’s go. Since we’ve already decided, there’s no point wasting more time here. I need to get back as soon as possible. The time dilation on the Third Floor is much weaker."
Nyxara didn’t understand why he was in such a hurry. She also didn’t particularly like the way he was speaking to her so directly.
Still, she needed him to remain in good condition. If he was going to act as her husband, visible bruises would only make the performance less convincing.
For some reason, Nova felt a chill run down his spine when he noticed the way Nyxara was looking at him while lost in thought.
"Alright, let’s go," she finally said. "I’ll discuss the rest of the plan on the way."
With that, she opened a spatial portal and stepped through it. Nova quickly followed behind her.
After passing through the portal, Nova appeared in a place that looked like the outskirts of a city. They were still some distance away from it, but he could clearly see the massive walls rising in the far distance.
The demonic energy on the Third Floor felt much thinner than on the Fourth. The air itself seemed cleaner, though the sky remained unchanged — no sun, only an endless darkness that covered everything. It truly felt like he was standing deep within the Abyss.
Nyxara stood off to the side, staring at the distant city walls with a distant, expressionless gaze. She had been away from the city for hundred years.
Although she had never liked staying with her family after her mother’s death, she had still grown up here. Many of her memories were tied to this place.
Nova looked at her and asked, "Why did you leave the body of that demonic beast behind? Its materials could have been worth a fortune."
Nyxara glanced at him and sneered lightly.
"I’m not lacking in wealth. Although its body would make excellent material for a weapon, I’ll simply send a few of my father’s Demon Generals to retrieve it later."
Nova nodded, then asked another question.
"Then why did you open the portal so far from the gates? You could have brought us much closer."
He genuinely didn’t understand why she had chosen to appear at such a distance.
"Sheesh... you’re so stupid. I can’t believe I’m actually asking you to act as my husband," Nyxara sighed heavily and shook her head in clear displeasure.
Nova clenched his fist in anger. Even though he was far weaker than her, he still didn’t like being called stupid — especially by anyone other than Liya or his wives. He didn’t dare say anything out loud, but he muttered inwardly,
I didn’t ask for this, you bitch...
Nyxara glanced at him. For a moment it seemed as if she had sensed that he was thinking something unpleasant about her, but she chose to ignore it and continued speaking.
"If you’re going to act as my husband, you need to know at least some basic information about the place we’re going to, as well as a few things about my clan and the other royal demon clans."
"We’ll walk from here. While we walk, I’ll fill you in."
Nova nodded. She was right. He needed to understand the environment and the people he was about to meet. Since he would be acting out a role, even a single mistake could cost him his life.
Nyxara began walking forward with slow, calm steps. Nova quickly moved to walk beside her, though he kept a slight distance. From afar, the two of them looked like a striking couple.
Nyxara still wore her elegant black dress from earlier, while Nova had on a matching dark outfit — black pants, a fitted t-shirt, and a black leather jacket.
Despite everything that had happened, Nova couldn’t help glancing at her from time to time as they walked. She was, without question, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in this life.
Nyxara noticed his gaze and spoke coldly without turning her head.
"Don’t get any ideas. We’re only acting as a couple. If you dare do anything unnecessary... I’ll kill you."
Even as she said those words, a faint redness appeared on her cheeks. Clearly, the memory of their three days of intense passion had not completely faded.
Nova immediately replied, "I wouldn’t dare!"
"Hmph." She snorted lightly, then continued in a more serious tone."Anyway, let’s get to the important matters.
The Third Level of the Abyss is known as the most prosperous level in the entire Abyss. High-level demons, Demon Generals, and Demon Lords all reside here with their clans."
