’Huh! So it is indeed the Nether Goddess, dude that sounds badass! I kinda want to see her in her Goddess form! She has one right? Every goddess playing mortal always has the Goddess and their normal human forms.’

Phei stopped halfway through and closed his eyes.

He searched for her, if they were permanently linked that meant he can feel her.

Had to be; that’s waist the system had said.

There was no portal, no physical touch and no ordinary sense telling him where Sienna was, yet something cold and black-violet existed at the distant edge of his "new" sense and awareness, far away and somehow still touching him. The feeling was quieter now, sleeping perhaps, but unmistakably hers.

Relief loosened something inside his chest.

Sienna was there.

Whatever concealment surrounded her room did not matter. Neither did the distance between them. According to the ability, even another realm would not sever the connection completely.

’Hopefully... not like any of us would be going to such places anytime soon.’

Phei remained with his eyes closed for a few breaths, feeling that distant presence while Maya’s fingers resumed moving gently through his hair.

Only then did he return to the rest of the description.

The ability explained far more than simply sensing one another. Sienna could cultivate his Soul Energy directly through their connection, something he had already witnessed in its rawest form when she drank from him on their first night together. Now that connection no longer depended upon physical closeness. If her Soul Realm became unstable again, she could draw upon whatever energy he possessed inside him and help hold together her Soul Realm, whether that meant Soul Energy, Mana, Void-Ice, Primordial Blood or something else he had yet to awaken.

That possibility reassured him more than he expected.

Phei didn’t know how important this was to her, because, Sienna’s greatest danger had never been an enemy standing outside her:

Her mortal cultivation foundation had been forced to contain her Nether Goddess soul, and every crack within that foundation had threatened to become a grave large enough to swallow her. If Dual-Nether Souls allowed Phei to become an anchor whenever that happened again, then perhaps she would never have to face that instability alone.

The price though, was written into the ability just as clearly, but it was also a reassurance in its own ominous way because:

Severe soul wounds could spread their burden across both of them.

If Sienna’s soul suffered something catastrophic, Phei will be part of it. If his own soul were struck badly enough, she would be dragged into the wound with him.

He did not particularly like that part but at the same like welcomed it gladly, he understood why it existed.

And then he reached the final words again.

Objects, shadows, fragments or even entities could pass through their connection into the real world between them too... for Sienna (Phei doesn’t know) it meant she could send everything through Phei without the pain she had to go through to bring that Feather out.

Phei opened his eyes.

"That part is concerning."

Maya looked down. "Which part?"

He considered answering properly, then imagined explaining that his newly linked soul might someday function as a doorway for things from the Nether Goddess’s private kingdom which knew it could as well be called kingdom of death.

"Family matter."

Maya’s eyes narrowed. "That sounded considerably worse than normal family matters."

"It probably is."

She sighed and continued stroking his hair, wisely deciding that some branches of the Ryujin Tiamat family tree deserved to remain unexamined until they stopped moving.

The next reward appeared:

Phei’s mouth slowly curved as he read through it, particularly pleased to see that nothing he already possessed had been sacrificed for the evolution. Dragon Dominance remained Dragon Dominance in full, except the sacred essence Sienna had left within him had tempered its suppressive authority against Gods and other divine beings while giving it a far more troublesome effect upon certain women.

A certain woman entered his thoughts first, followed almost immediately by Dravenna, and several others attempted to join that fantasy before he decided his imagination had already become dangerous enough for one afternoon.

Goddesses, divine women, queens and those carrying enough pride or sovereignty to make ordinary men reconsider approaching them would now have a much harder time hiding attraction they already felt toward him.

Their pride could resist, their composure could fight back and their mouths could continue denying everything they pleased, but Dragon Dominance would keep pressing against those defenses until pretending became considerably more difficult.

Considering the women surrounding him, that sounded less like an evolution and more like a future diplomatic incident.

Maya looked down before he said anything.

"No."

Phei blinked. "I haven’t spoken."

"You did not need to."

"That is unfair."

"So is your face when you make that stupid trouble-expression."

Phei decided there was no winning against a woman who could accuse his face independently of his actions.

The next reward thankfully arrived before he could defend himself.

The System had waited until his head was resting peacefully upon Maya’s thighs to announce that particular evolution, which felt personal.

Still, the description of Dragon Rod had been mercifully brief. Three older abilities had been evolved one, and Phei understood enough from the name and wording to know that no extended reflection was necessary while Maya sat directly above him.

Certain rewards were better appreciated privately.

Preferably without commentary.

The blue light shifted before his dignity suffered any further:

Phei stared at the words for several moments.

Whatever Soul Mate Authority truly was, even the System appeared unwilling or unable to tell him yet. Something about his soul and Sienna’s had recognized the other deeply enough to create the dormant authority, yet apparently that recognition remained incomplete.

He found that irritatingly vague.

He also found the name dangerously amusing.

Sienna would probably threaten to bury him somewhere beneath her Soul Realm if he ever said Soul Mate Authority aloud while wearing the wrong smile.

The fact that this made him want to tell her more rather than less was a personal flaw he had no intention of examining today.

Another notification opened:
