My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered

Chapter 152 - 72 hours

The transition from eleven thousand meters beneath the ocean to the open air was a brutal, glorious shock to the senses.

One second, Vince was rocketing through the heavy, suffocating pressure of the sea in his broad Dragon-Beast form—Vetra and Lyrielle tailing his wake in a desperate sprint—and the next, the crushing weight of the sea simply vanished.

BOOM!

Three massive plumes of ocean spray erupted into the sky as the trio broke the surface, shattering the glassy water into millions of sunlit droplets.

Vince shifted back to his human form mid-air, spinning gracefully before landing on his feet, hovering effortlessly atop the gentle ocean swell using his newly refined hydro-control. Sunlight—blinding, radiant, and warm—poured down from a cloudless sky, washing over his skin after days in the pitch-black abyss.

"Ahhh! Sunlight!" Vetra roared, bursting out of the water beside him with her massive dragonkin tail thrashing. She threw her head back, shaking out her soaked hair and laughing heartily as the sea breezes whipped around them. "I swear, if I had to stay down in that cold dark for another day, I would’ve burned the ocean floor down just for warmth!"

"You can’t burn an ocean floor, you overgrown lizard," Lyrielle gasped, popping up on Vince’s other side. Her green eyes squeezed shut as she wiped saltwater from her face, her pointed ears twitching in the warm breeze. She reached into her robes, hastily pulling out her wooden staff to channel a quick gust of wind magic, blowing her yellow-blonde hair dry in seconds. "Though... I must admit, I didn’t realize how much I missed the open sky."

Vince chuckled softly, crossing his arms as he floated on the surface. "You two did alright holding your own on the swim up. Thought you were supposed to be faster, Vetra."

"You transformed into a giant dragon-torpedo!" Vetra barked, swimming closer and shoving his arm playfully. "That was cheating!"

"It’s not cheating if it’s my body," Vince smirked. He mentally willed his status interface to open, letting the lingering purple notifications scroll past his eyes to review his final haul from the deep:

[TITLE ACTIVE: SOVEREIGN OF THE DEEP]

Effects: +20% to all stats when fighting in or near water environments. Absolute command over aquatic beast-kin.

[HAREM LINK ESTABLISHED: NERISSA (SIREN GENERAL)]

Passive Ability Unlocked: [Siren’s Call: Hydro-Shielding] — Grants an instant, hydro-kinetic barrier during combat that absorbs damage scaled to total Mana.

[FACTION STATUS UPDATED]

Vassal Territory: Nethros Kingdom added to your dominion.

A deep, satisfying warmth settled into Vince’s soul-matrix. Not only had he brought an entire underwater kingdom under his banner, but the power gain was undeniable. His level had surged, and the passive hydro-shielding alone made his frontline durability almost terrifying.

"Come on," Vince said, looking toward a rugged, sun-drenched coastal cliffside a few hundred yards away. "Let’s get off the open water and set up camp. We’ve got things to process before we head inland."

Half an hour later, the trio had claimed a secluded, rocky cove along the high cliffs. A crackling campfire blazed in the center of their small setup, roasting two large coastal game birds Vetra had effortlessly snatched from the sky minutes after drying off.

Vince sat on a smooth rock, leaning his back against the stone cliff. With a thought, he summoned the secondary System interface that had been silently pulsing since they left Nethros.

A dark-purple, translucent window expanded in front of him:

[ACTIVE QUEST: THE SOVEREIGN TRANSCENDENT ELIXIR]

Ingredient 1/3: Astral Dew Essence (Moriele) — [COMPLETE]

Ingredient 2/3: Primordial Dragon Heart Blood (Vetra) — [COMPLETE]

Ingredient 3/3: Fish Scale (Nerissa) — [COMPLETE]

[ALL INGREDIENTS ACQUIRED — BREWING SEQUENCE IN PROGRESS]

Current Phase: Core Essence Fusion & Soul-Matrix Alignment

[TIME REMAINING: 71 HOURS, 58 MINUTES]

In the center of the interface, a miniature, ethereal cauldron spun slowly. Inside it, three distinct lights—a starlight silver, a fiery dragon crimson, and a deep oceanic violet—swirled together, constantly colliding and melting into a single, dense, liquid core.

"72 hours," Vince murmured aloud.

Vetra leaned over his shoulder, tearing off a piece of roasted meat with her sharp fangs. "Is that a countdown for something?"

"Yeah," Vince nodded, closing the window. "Three days for the three essences to fuse completely. Once that timer hits zero, the Transcendent Elixir will be complete."

"And once you drink it?" Lyrielle asked, sitting cross-legged across the fire, her wooden staff resting over her knees as she carefully tended to the flames.

"My stats, soul-matrix, and core affinity undergo a permanent evolution," Vince said, his eyes darkening with quiet intensity. "

Good," Vetra grinned, flexing her clawed fingers as sparks danced off her skin. "Because I’m getting bored of small fry. First dragons, then sirens... I want to see what kind of monster you turn into."

"Monster?" Vince chuckled, turning his head to smirk at Lyrielle. "I think the only monster around here is Elle when she doesn’t get her morning tea."

Lyrielle’s head snapped up, her cheeks instantly flushing pink. "I am not a monster! And don’t call me ’Elle’ when you’re making fun of me!"

"Oh, please," Vetra snorted, leaning back on her hands with a wicked grin. "You were acting like a spiky sea-urchin all morning back in Nethros. Though, to be fair, that was probably just residual frustration from getting teased."

"I was not frustrated!" Lyrielle huffed defensive, her pointed ears flattening slightly. "I was maintaining proper decorum as a royal!"

"Right, decorum," Vetra teased, nudging Lyrielle’s boot with her own. "Is that what we call smacking Vince across the face with your staff because he offered you a kiss?"

"He was teasing me!" Lyrielle squeaked, her face turning a bright crimson that rivaled Vetra’s dragon scales. She shot a glare at Vince. "He had his lips pouted out like a fool!"

Vince pouted his lips out again, exaggerating the expression as he leaned toward her across the fire. "What? It was a generous offer, Elle. Nerissa certainly didn’t complain."

"Pervert! Absolute pervert!" Lyrielle huffed, puffing out her cheeks and clutching her staff defensively to her chest. But despite her indignant huffs, she couldn’t stop the soft, affectionate sparkle from flickering in her eyes.

She turned her gaze down toward the crackling fire, her thoughts drifting. It was strange, really. When she had first joined Vince, she was merely a guide and a princess, observing his rapid, terrifying rise to power from a safe distance. But now... looking at Vetra, and Nerissa deep below, she realized how seamlessly she had been pulled into his orbit.

The purple Sovereign Crest that had glowed beneath Nerissa’s hip flitted through Lyrielle’s mind. It was an absolute, unbreakable soul-mark of devotion. A part of her wondered—with a sudden, fluttering hit of nervous anticipation—what it would feel like when her own time came.

"Hey," Vince’s soft voice broke her trance.

She looked up. Vince had moved around the fire, crouching down beside her. The teasing smirk was gone, replaced by the warm, grounded look he saved only for those closest to him. He handed her a wooden skewer with a freshly cooked, seasoned piece of meat.

"Eat up, Elle," Vince said gently, touching his fingers against hers as she took the skewer. "You used a lot of mana keeping up on the swim. Let’s rest tonight."

Lyrielle looked into his dark eyes, feeling the warmth of his hand, and her defensive front melted away completely.

"Thank you, Vince," she whispered softly, taking a quiet bite.

Vetra watched the two of them from across the fire, a knowing, satisfied smirk playing on her lips as she took a big swing from her canteen.

As the sun sank below the ocean horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of gold and violet, the 72-hour timer in Vince’s mind continued its steady tick. Down in the deep, Nerissa was guarding his dark territory. Up on the surface, the future awaited.

And in three days, he would be ready for all of it.
