My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered

Chapter 108: Get some sleep

Vince stayed buried inside her for a long moment after the last pulse faded, forehead resting against hers, breathing in the residual heat that still rolled off her scaled body. The air between them remained thick with the mingled scents of sweat, ozone from the earlier spar, and the distinctive musk of dragon-kin arousal. Every shallow breath he took drew more of that warmth into his lungs. Vetra’s tail remained coiled tightly around his waist, the powerful muscle twitching now and then as aftershocks rippled through her. Those involuntary squeezes sent faint echoes of pleasure through both of them, prolonging the connection even as the sharpest edge of climax receded. Her claws had left shallow red lines across his shoulders; the marks stung lightly whenever he shifted, a pleasant reminder of how completely she had lost control. Twin horns framed her face in the fading moonlight, catching the last silver glow and casting thin shadows across her sharp cheekbones. Amber eyes, still half-lidded and dazed, watched him without looking away. There was no challenge in that gaze now, only a heavy, sated stillness that felt rarer than any victory he had claimed in combat.

He finally pulled out.

Thick, mixed slick followed, trailing down the insides of her thighs and dripping onto the grass between them in slow, heavy strands. The sound of it was soft but unmistakable in the quiet clearing. Vetra made a low, rough sound at the sudden emptiness—something between a growl and a sigh—but didn’t complain. The emptiness left her feeling strangely light and unfinished for a heartbeat, yet the deep, satisfied ache that replaced it was enough. Vince set her back on her feet carefully, hands steady at her hips until he was certain she would not sway. Her legs were unsteady for a second; the powerful dragon-kin musculature reasserted itself quickly, though the flush across her scales and the faint glow of the Sovereign Crest still gave her away. The Crest pulsed once more, soft and warm beneath the surface of her lower abdomen, before settling into a quieter radiance that matched the slowing of her heart.

A soft chime sounded in the back of Vince’s mind.

`[HAREM STATUS UPDATE]`

`[MEMBER: Vetra – Dragon-kin]`

`[CURRENT TIER: 2]`

`[REWARDS CLAIMED]`

`[+15% Kinetic Absorption Efficiency]`

`[Bond Resonance Strengthened]`

`[New Passive Unlocked: Shared mana]`

The interface hovered at the edge of his awareness, cool and precise against the lingering heat of the moment. Vince dismissed it with a flicker of thought. Useful. Not unexpected. The new passive would prove valuable in the days ahead; shared mana meant he could draw from her reserves in a true crisis, and she from his. The strengthened resonance already hummed faintly between them, a quiet thread of awareness that told him she was still catching her breath, still riding the last waves of sensation. He filed the information away without ceremony.

Vetra watched his face for a second, clearly sensing something had happened beyond the physical, but she didn’t ask. Dragon-kin rarely pressed for explanations when instincts already provided enough answers. Instead she bent to retrieve her discarded wraps, movements a little slower than usual, as though her limbs still remembered the weight of him. The cloth was damp with dew and the earlier struggle; she shook it once before beginning to wind it back around her hips and chest. Vince helped her pull them back into place without comment, fingers briefly brushing the still-warm Crest on her lower abdomen. The mark felt almost feverish against his skin. She shivered once at the contact, a full-body ripple that traveled from her shoulders down the length of her spine and into the tip of her tail, then snorted to cover it.

"You’re staring."

"You’re still dripping," he answered simply.

The blunt observation drew a flicker of something sharp across her expression—half glare, half residual hunger—that made the amber of her eyes flash brighter for an instant. She turned and started walking before the look could become anything more. He fell into step beside her without needing to be asked. They moved through the pines in silence for a while, the only sounds the soft crunch of undergrowth beneath their boots and the occasional lazy sway of her tail brushing low branches. Needles whispered against scales. Somewhere deeper in the wood an owl called once and fell quiet again. The leftover kinetic charge under Vince’s skin had finally settled into a low, manageable hum, no longer demanding release or movement. The spar—and everything after—had done its job thoroughly. His muscles felt loose, his thoughts clearer than they had been in days.

By the time the outer walls of Malgrath came into view, the sky had begun to lighten at the edges. A thin band of pale gold touched the eastern horizon, pushing the deepest blue upward. The town still slept behind its stone perimeter; only the occasional lantern glowed in a high window. They slipped through the gates without trouble—the night watch knew them by sight and had long since stopped asking questions about late returns from the forest. The streets beyond were quiet, cobbles still damp from the earlier mist. A cat darted across their path and vanished into an alley. Vetra’s claws clicked softly against the stone every few steps, a rhythm that matched the steady pace of Vince’s boots.

Inside the inn, the common room was still dark and empty. The hearth had burned down to a bed of dull red coals that gave off only the faintest warmth. They climbed the stairs carefully, avoiding the third tread that always creaked. The hallway above smelled of old wood, dried herbs, and the lingering scent of whatever stew the innkeeper had served the night before. Vince eased the door open with the same quiet precision he used when approaching an unaware opponent.

Lyrielle remained exactly as they had left her, buried under the thick wool blankets, breathing slow and even. One pale hand rested atop the covers near her cheek; a few strands of silver hair had escaped the braid she favored for sleep. The soft rise and fall of her chest never changed as they entered. Vetra crossed the room without a word and dropped onto the pile of blankets she used near the window, stretching out on her side with a low, contented sound that vibrated briefly in her chest. Her tail curled loosely around her own legs, the tip twitching once before settling. The purple crest on her abdomen was no longer glowing, but the mark was still clearly visible against her scales in the dim light filtering through the shutters—an elegant, permanent brand that neither of them would ever try to hide.

Vince crouched beside her for a moment. He brushed a few strands of dark hair away from one of her horns, feeling the cool smoothness of the keratin beneath his fingertips, then leaned down and pressed a brief, firm kiss to her forehead. The scales there were warmer than the rest of her face, still carrying the last of the heat they had generated together.

Vetra’s eyes opened just enough to meet his. The amber was softer now, the dazed haze almost gone. She didn’t smile but the look she gave him was quiet and satisfied, an acknowledgment that required no words.

"Get some sleep now," he said.

She closed her eyes again, the lids settling with deliberate finality. Her breathing deepened within moments.

Vince rose, crossed to the bed, and carefully settled onto the mattress beside Lyrielle. The elf didn’t stir; her presence remained a steady, cool counterpoint to the lingering warmth still radiating from the dragon-kin across the room. He lay on his back, one arm folded behind his head, and stared at the ceiling for a few seconds while the last traces of restless energy faded. The wooden beams above him were familiar, the small cracks and knots mapped from countless nights spent in this same position. Outside, the first true light of morning began to paint the edges of the shutters. The bond with Vetra hummed quietly at the edge of his awareness, steady and strong. Shared mana waited, ready. The kinetic efficiency improvement would show itself the next time steel met steel.

Then he closed his eyes and let sleep take him, the weight of the night settling into something almost peaceful.
