Chapter 456 - 62 — Manchester United vs Galatasaray - Ten Men II
Around the seventy-second minute, Galatasaray replaced Zaha with Dries Mertens.
Zaha left to applause from both sets of supporters, nothing dramatic in the exit.
Mertens took up a position immediately behind Icardi, giving Galatasaray another body to receive between United’s midfield and defense.
Demien started dropping closer to Casemiro because of it.
Mertens received once and tried to turn, but Demien arrived from his blind side, used his body rather than a tackle, and forced the ball back.
「TRAIT ACTIVATED」 「Ball Winner」
Around the seventy-fifth minute, United nearly made it four.
Demien won the second ball after Varane cleared toward midfield.
Oliveira closed him, but Demien rolled away and released Rashford behind Boey.
Rashford carried into the box and tried to square it to Bruno, but Muslera got there first and smothered it.
Demien threw his arms down in frustration, Rashford pointing toward the recovering defender to explain the delay.
Around the seventy-seventh minute, Onana made the mistake that changed the match.
United recycled possession backward after Galatasaray closed Rashford’s side.
Lindelöf returned it to Onana.
Icardi pressed from the front.
Mertens blocked the short pass into Casemiro.
Demien moved into a supporting position, but Oliveira stood close enough to intercept if Onana played directly toward him.
Onana played the central pass anyway.
The ball traveled behind Casemiro straight into Mertens’s path.
Demien’s eyes widened, he cursed under his breath, and he was already sprinting back as Mertens drove toward the box.
Casemiro chased from behind.
Mertens entered the area and prepared to shoot.
Casemiro slid in as a last resort, caught him, and sent him to the ground.
The referee pointed to the spot.
Old Trafford erupted in protest before the card even came out.
Casemiro was already carrying a yellow.
The referee showed the second, then the red.
Manchester United were down to ten men.
Demien stopped several yards from Onana and stared at him in disbelief before turning away, because the goalkeeper already knew exactly what he’d done.
He reached Casemiro before he left the pitch.
Casemiro gripped the back of his neck, talking fast about protecting the center and cutting off the second ball to Mertens.
"We hold the lead," Demien told him, keeping it short while the referee waved Casemiro toward the tunnel.
Casemiro walked off to a mixture of applause and anxious silence, glancing once toward Onana without stopping.
Demien moved beside Bruno and began organizing United before the penalty.
He pointed Rashford toward the left defensive lane, told Mount to tuck inside, and reminded the center-backs that Icardi would attack any rebound.
Icardi placed the ball on the spot.
Onana bounced on his line.
Icardi took several measured steps back.
The Galatasaray supporters held their scarves above their heads, and Demien waited outside the area with Mertens beside him.
The referee blew.
Icardi approached slowly, opened his body, and sent it toward Onana’s right.
The shot traveled wide of the post.
Old Trafford exploded with relief.
Demien shouted once and clenched both fists, then stopped himself immediately, grabbing the ball as it came back from behind the goal and calling everyone into shape, because more than ten minutes plus stoppage still remained.
Ten Hag reacted from the touchline, bringing McTominay on for Mount to restore a body in central midfield.
United shifted into a compact 4-4-1.
Højlund stayed alone up front.
Rashford dropped into the left midfield line.
Bruno moved to the right.
Demien and McTominay protected the center.
The back four held narrow around the box.
Demien became the organizer of the midfield line, checking both sides repeatedly, moving McTominay two yards left, pointing Bruno inward whenever Mertens drifted central.
「MATCH STATUS UPDATE」 「Manchester United: 10 Players」 「Score: 3–2」 「Time Remaining: 11 Minutes + Stoppage」
Around the eighty-first minute, Galatasaray nearly punished the numerical advantage.
Davinson won the ball in defense and sent it forward early.
Icardi started behind United’s back line while Mertens dropped toward the ball, and one defender stepped late, leaving Icardi onside.
Mertens flicked it into Icardi’s path.
Icardi ran through alone toward Onana.
Demien recognized the danger before the pass even reached him, already sprinting from midfield while everyone else appealed for offside.

Icardi took one touch toward the box.
Onana came off his line.
Icardi lifted the ball over him.
Demien kept running behind the goalkeeper.
The ball dropped toward the empty net.
He reached it just before the bounce could carry it across the line and hooked it away with his right foot while sliding into the post.
The ball went behind for a corner.
Demien crashed into the turf and the side netting, his chest rising violently while Old Trafford erupted around him.
Onana reached him first and pulled him up by both arms.
"Forget it — get ready for the corner," Demien shouted at him, no calm speech in it at all.
"Icardi had beaten Onana completely," the commentator said over the replay, "but Demien began recovering before the forward even controlled the pass. That’s what his pace just saved."
「MATCH MISSION PROGRESS」 「Defensive Recoveries: 5/3」
Galatasaray crowded the box for the corner.
Kerem delivered toward Davinson, who won the first header and directed it toward Icardi.
Varane blocked Icardi’s attempt, but the rebound fell to Oliveira outside the box.
Demien pushed off the ground, sprinted from the post, and threw himself into Oliveira’s follow-up shot.
The ball struck him and deflected wide.
He stayed seated for a second afterward, breathing heavily, one hand pressed to his ribs, before Bruno grabbed his arm and pulled him up for the next corner.
Around the eighty-fourth minute, United finally escaped the pressure.
Varane cleared toward Højlund, who held off Bardakçı and laid the ball toward Demien.
Oliveira and Mertens closed from either side.
Demien cushioned it beneath his foot, turned his back to them, and protected it rather than forcing a counter.

Mertens reached around and fouled him.
Demien fell onto the ball, gripped it against his chest, and stayed down until the referee arrived.
Old Trafford applauded the decision as loudly as it would have an attack.
He got up slowly, exchanged a tired grin with Højlund, and told the team to push higher before the restart.
He took the free kick short to Bruno, United keeping possession near the corner rather than crossing into a box with only Højlund to aim for.
Around the eighty-sixth minute, Galatasaray attacked again through Boey.
Boey drove down United’s left and sent a low cross toward Icardi.
Varane reached it but could only clear it to the edge of the box.
Kerem arrived for the second ball.
Demien read the drop, stepped across Kerem, and cleared it toward the touchline before the shot could come.
「STATS ACTIVE」 「Interceptions: 94 | Defensive Awareness: 93 | Reactions: 99」
He shouted in celebration of the clearance, clapping his hands together and demanding the line push out.
Around the eighty-eighth minute, Mertens received between Demien and McTominay, turned, and tried to slide Icardi into the box.
Demien stretched across the lane and got a toe to it.
The ball rolled to Bruno, who released Rashford into open space on the left.
Rashford carried from halfway with Højlund running centrally.
Demien began joining the counter, then slowed after a few steps, because United didn’t need another body ahead of the ball.
Rashford released Højlund, who shot across Muslera, only for the goalkeeper to save with his leg.
Højlund dropped to his knees in frustration.
Demien clapped toward him from midfield, then pointed for him to stay high, because Galatasaray would restart quickly.
The fourth official raised the board.
Six minutes of stoppage time.
Demien stared at it, spread both arms in disbelief, and argued briefly with the referee about where the extra time had come from before Bruno dragged him away from earning a card of his own.
