Chapter 165: High Sorcerer.
"Undead Lich," Damien said coldly while walking away.
The Divine Priest was about to lose his mind. He had spoken because he believed they had an agreement, but why was Damien leaving him alone with the creepy skeleton? His eyes followed Damien’s back as he continued walking, and for a moment the Divine Priest genuinely seemed unable to understand what was happening.
The undead Lich, meanwhile, made a motion that resembled a human linking their lips, which Damien found funny because it didn’t have a mouth to begin with.
The undead Lich’s runes began to glow as it approached the Divine Priest.
The Divine Priest’s expression changed immediately.
It took a step backward, its eyes fixed on the approaching skeleton. Whatever confidence remained after its battle with Damien and the undead army had already been beaten out of it. Now, with the Lich slowly approaching, it could feel another kind of danger closing in.
The Divine Priest actually turned to try to run, but was faced with hundreds of undead in all directions.
It stopped abruptly, there was truly nowhere to go.
The creatures surrounding it didn’t even need to attack. Their mere presence was enough to remind the Divine Priest that escape was impossible. Every direction was blocked, and the only person who could have ordered them aside was already walking away.
The Divine Priest yelled at Damien.
"Is this all your word amounts? You promised you would let me go if I spoke, and I did, I told you everything I knew... Hear me out, Wretch!"
Damien finally came to a stop.
He didn’t turn around completely. Instead, he graced the Divine Priest with a half gaze from one of his eyes before speaking with complete indifference.
"I never promised to let you go. You simply succumbed to fear and assumed I had. I was going to kill you either way, whether you spoke or not."
The Divine Priest’s face froze. It simply stared at Damien’s back. Then realization gave way to anger.
The Divine Priest roared furiously and punched the undead Lich with all its might.
The blow connected with enough force to launch the undead Lich through the air with a force that rivalled a racing truck. Its skeletal body crashed into the ground, sending debris scattering across the frozen battlefield.
Damien frowned lightly.
The Lich had taken plenty of punishment before, but Damien had never seen it take a direct attack from something as powerful as the Divine Priest without reacting. Seeing it remain motionless after being launched through the air made him wonder whether the creature had finally encountered an attack it couldn’t simply ignore.
But moments later, his worries were put aside as the undead Lich once more rose. Its skeletal body pushed itself upright, seemingly more annoyed than injured.
Damien’s expression relaxed slightly.
The Lich turned its attention back towards the Divine Priest. Its purple runes ignited, the glow became brighter across its skeletal body as it raised both hands and pointed them towards the Divine Priest.
The Divine Priest’s expression changed, It instinctively took another step backward, but the next moment, blood exploded from its skin.
"No, stop!"
The Divine Priest roared, this time without being able to hide his fear.
It tried to move, but the strange power had already reached its body. Blood continued forcing its way outward as its scales began separating from its flesh, the Divine Priest clawed at its own body, desperately trying to stop whatever was happening, but there was nothing it could do.
Soon, its body began to break apart, scales fell off one after another, followed by pieces of muscle and veins. The Divine Priest’s body, which had once appeared almost indestructible beneath its blue scales, was being reduced piece by piece.
Its screams became increasingly desperate.
The Eidolon Priest watched from nearby without saying anything.
It had already seen Damien’s strength. It had watched the undead swarm the Divine Priest and watched Damien casually beat him whenever he refused to cooperate. Yet even after all of that, watching the Lich dismantle the Divine Priest was disturbing in an entirely different way.
Eventually, even the Divine Priest’s bones began to disintegrate.
The fragments moved towards the undead Lich as though being pulled by an invisible force. Nothing remained untouched. Every piece of the Divine Priest’s body was drawn towards the skeleton.
The undead Lich didn’t let any part go to waste, its mouth was wide open as every part was devoured until there was nothing left.
The Divine Priest’s screams finally disappeared as the battlefield became quiet again.
Damien’s face was grim as he stared at the place where the Divine Priest had once stood, the creature had been troublesome to Andrea and Yuri, but now there wasn’t even a corpse left behind. The Lich had consumed everything.
The undead Lich slowly lowered its hands.
Its purple runes ignited brightly, illuminating its skeletal frame for a brief moment before dying down again.
The Lich had eaten the Divine Priest.
And judging from how easily it had consumed every part of its body, Damien couldn’t help but wonder what exactly had just happened to the Divine Priest’s power.
[Obsession even in death. The high sorcerer of humanity saw the new gods rise and fell into corruption, obsessing over a power he could not have, now by the will of the undead, he rises to pursue his eternal obsession, may the champions vanquish him once more]
[Your undead has fulfilled the necessary conditions... Name your undead]
[-----]
The Emissary’s voice shook Damien to the core, he didn’t think the undead lich was important enough for a history lesson.
It was evident that the undead lich was a big shot back during the glory days of the ruins of humanity, or whatever it was called back then.
Damien rubbed his temples. "The new gods the Emissary spoke of must be the current corrupt gods, and champions, well they should all be dead by now".
Damien’s eyes narrowed at the message before him, it still hadn’t disappeared, instead it was waiting for him to fill in a name for the undead lich.
