Chapter 69: The Yandere’s Wrath [2]: Black Flames of Obsession
"Let’s put away the pretense. Since everyone is here, this is good. It will save me some time from eliminating you all."
With a single glance at her surroundings, Seraphina easily located the positions of the elders Kaelen’s father had secretly called. Her perception pierced through the mansion’s walls as if they were made of glass.
Her words shook Kaelen’s father to his core. His vigilance toward Seraphina intensified, his aura coiling like a serpent ready to strike. Beneath his cold exterior, a storm of frustration brewed, not just at Seraphina, but at his own son. Kaelen had offended someone he should never have crossed.
"Sorry, ma’am," he said, his voice strained, forcing diplomacy through gritted teeth. "If there is a way to settle this without causing harm to either side, I will happily comply. Is it Origin Stones you want? Resources? Cultivation grounds? We can give you whatever you desire. But if you speak of eliminating our clan... I cannot agree. And don’t forget, this is Draktharion City."
He spoke with calculated calm, his words laced with both an offer and a veiled threat. Draktharion had rules. He was counting on them to protect him.
Seraphina watched him say all of this with cold, unblinking eyes. Her expression remained unchanged, like a predator observing its prey’s desperate attempts to escape.
"I didn’t ask for your opinion," she said flatly. "And it doesn’t matter."
Her dismissive tone irked Kaelen’s father beyond reason. His pride, already wounded by his son’s humiliation, now burned with fresh fury. Without another word, he attacked.
Lightning crackled around his body as he lunged forward, his hand transformed into a claw wreathed in wind and thunder. The air was torn apart as he closed the distance in an instant, his strike aimed directly at Seraphina’s throat. He was planning to land a killing blow meant to end Seraphina instantly.
Watching as he attacked, Seraphina didn’t blink or move.
A wall of golden-red flames erupted before her from nowhere, burning with intensity. Kaelen’s father’s lightning claw struck the flames and was instantly repelled, the lightning and wind around his arm dissipating like smoke against a hurricane. He was thrown backward, his feet skidding across the marble floor as he struggled to regain his balance.
His eyes widened. He had felt nothing. There was no impact. The flames had simply consumed his attack whole.
"You’re weak," Seraphina said, her voice flat and cold. "I expected more from the head of the Voss Clan."
Her words cut deeper, arousing the anger of Kaelen’s father, who snarled, feeling his pride wounded and his rage burned. He gathered lightning and wind around his body, forming a cyclone that shook the building and the grand hall. The pillars cracked, the chandeliers began to shake, and the marble floor cracked from his fist, spreading like a spider-web.
"Elders!" he roared. "Now!"
From the shadows, five figures emerged swiftly, elderly men and women draped in robes of silver and blue, their eyes glowing with Originat. They formed a semicircle around Seraphina, their auras merging with Kaelen’s father’s.
Kaelen’s father knew since they couldn’t probe the depth of Seraphina, then it was better going all out.
"Tempest’s Judgment," all of them said in unison, their voices resonating with authority. This was their clan’s protective formation, fused with a skill.
A massive circular rune appeared in the sky above Seraphina, crackling with lightning and swirling with wind. The combined power of the elders and the clan head converged, forming a devastating vortex of destruction that descended upon her.
Everyone in the mansion instinctively glanced up as the vortex descended, lightning striking the ground everywhere, wind tearing everywhere. The marble floor shattered, chunks of stone flying in all directions. The pillars of the grand hall cracked and crumbled, and the entire mansion was instantly destroyed from this display of power.
Seraphina looked up at the attack, her expression remained unchanged as she raised her right hand.
Phoenix’s Descent.
From her palm, a column of golden-red flames erupted having lines of black flames, rising to meet the vortex. The fire took the shape of a phoenix, its wings spread wide, its cry echoing through the hall like a battle hymn. It collided with the Tempest’s Judgment, and the two forces clashed in a blinding explosion of light and energy.
The shockwave rippled outward, shattering the remaining pillars and sending debris flying in all directions. The remaining part of the halls were destroyed, and the ceiling above them completely shattered, exposing the dark sky beyond. The servants and guards who had been watching scattered in terror.
Feeling the intense power behind the phoenix, the elders didn’t relent but instead poured more Originat into the vortex. The lightning intensified as the wind howled, and the vortex grew larger, pressing down on Seraphina with increasing force.
For a moment, it seemed as though the combined might of the elders would overwhelm her.
Then Seraphina smiled.
It was a cold, predatory smile, one that sent a chill down even Kaelen’s father’s spine.
"Now that’s more like it," she said softly.
Her flames surged, expanding into a blazing inferno that consumed the entire hall. The heat was so intense that the marble floor melted, the pillars turned to ash, and the air itself seemed to burn. The phoenix cried out, its form growing larger, more brilliant, its flames washing over the vortex like a tidal wave.
The elders screamed as their techniques were consumed, their power draining away in an instant. The vortex shattered, and the shockwave sent them flying backward. One elder crashed through a pillar, another slammed into a wall, and the rest collapsed to the ground, their robes scorched, their bodies smoking.
Kaelen’s father stared in disbelief. Their attack was defeated with all the elders severely injured.
"Impossible," he muttered, his voice trembling as he found this unbelievable.
Seraphina stepped toward him, her footsteps leaving molten prints in the melted floor. The flames around her coiled and danced, forming shapes of dragons and phoenixes.
"That was your best?" she asked, tilting her head. "How disappointing."
Her dismissive tone ignited a fire in Kaelen’s father’s chest. His pride didn’t allow this. He pushed himself to his feet as his body trembled but his eyes burned with unwillingness.
"I am the head of the Voss Clan!" he roared, lightning and wind swirling around him once more. "I will not be humiliated in my own home!"
He lunged forward, faster than before, his form blurring with lightning. His claws struck out, each blow aimed at Seraphina’s vital points, her heart, her throat, her eyes. The attacks came like a storm, relentless, wild and fast.
But Seraphina moved like water. She swayed, ducked, and twisted, each movement fluid and unhurried, as if she could see every strike before it was thrown. The attacks passed through empty air, grazing nothing, hitting nothing.
"You’re fast," she said, almost casually. "But that’s all you are. Fast and foolish."
She stepped inside his guard, her hand pressing lightly against his chest. A flicker of flame bloomed from her palm, barely a spark.
But it was enough.
Kaelen’s father was sent flying across the ruined hall, crashing through the remnants of the wall and landing in the courtyard outside. He rolled across the scorched grass, his body smoking, his aura flickering like a dying flame.
He tried to rise, but his arms gave out beneath him. His body refused to obey.
Seraphina walked through the hole in the wall, her figure framed by the flames still burning behind her. She looked down at him, her gaze as cold as the abyss.
"Where is your son?" she asked.
Before he could answer, a bolt of lightning struck from the sky, aimed directly at Seraphina. She tilted her head, avoiding it by an inch, as more lightning bolts rained down around her.
The remaining elders had risen from the rubble, their faces pale, their bodies broken, but their wills unbroken. They stood together, forming a defensive circle around Kaelen’s father, their combined aura flickering with desperate resolve.
"We will not let you touch him," one of them said, his voice trembling but firm.
Seraphina raised an eyebrow. The flames around her surged once more.
"Well, he can be settled later. I was planning to destroy you all."
She raised her hand, and the inferno responded. The flames around her took form, a massive dragon of black fire, its eyes wanting to consume everything. The Originat in the surrounding was consumed by this dragon as it continued to consume all things as if it was a being that knew no satisfaction.
Draconic Inferno.
The dragon roared, its cry consuming sound itself. Then it lunged toward the elders, its maw open wide, ready to consume them all.
The elders threw up their strongest defenses, barriers of lightning, walls of wind, shields of Originat. But the dragon tore through them like paper, its flames consuming everything in its path.
One by one, the elders fell. Their barriers shattered, their bodies collapsed, and their auras faded into nothing.
In moments, only Kaelen’s father remained.
He stared up at Seraphina, his body broken. His son’s hatred had brought this upon them. He watched as the flames consumed everything the land had to offer. The servants, the guards, everyone in the mansion didn’t escape these black flames as they were consumed in confusion.
Seraphina walked toward him, her footsteps echoing in the sudden silence. The flames around her flickered, casting long shadows across the ruined courtyard.
"Well," she said softly, her voice gentle, almost kind. "I was planning to make your clan live longer, but since you dare have ill intent on my darling, your end came early."
Kaelen’s father looked at Seraphina who was burning in black flames, releasing an unknown energy but it felt dark and wanted to consume all things. The last thing he saw was her gaze, they were the gaze of an extremely hungry being.
But what was she hungry for?
This was the last thought he had before he ceased to exist. He didn’t even know how he died.
