Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 274 - 275: The Full Story

"The outer forest is already a slaughterhouse. I’d rather take my chances with traps I can try to read than stay back there and get jumped by desperate idiots who can’t even control their own power anymore."

The shorter one stayed quiet for several steps. Finally he gave a short nod. "Fine. But the second something feels off, we pull back. No arguments."

They continued deeper in silence. After a while the taller one suddenly stopped. His hand shot out and pressed against a thick, dark trunk. A residual intent had locked onto him. His eyes lost focus as the memory pulled him under.

---

The world around him changed.

He stood inside the unfinished structure of the ruin while it was still being completed. The dark-robed figure walked slowly through the vast halls with his hands clasped behind his back, expression calm and thoughtful, like a man performing one final inspection before leaving a project behind. He stopped at the edge of what would become the outer forest layer and looked down at the living trees that would one day suppress and test everyone who entered.

"The moment I step away, the process begins," the figure said quietly. "The barrier will remain closed until the proper conditions are met. When enough potential readers appear, it will open on its own. Not earlier. Not later."

He turned and began walking toward the edge of the structure.

"The Will already carries the complete rules. It will maintain balance and enforce the conditions I set. Everything beyond that will depend on the quality of those who come after me."

The memory faded.

---

The taller one blinked hard as the forest returned. His hand was still pressed against the bark.

*He planned the timing of the barrier. This place didn’t open by chance. And there’s a Will inside acting as the judge and enforcer.*

He pulled his hand back. His partner was watching him with narrowed eyes.

"What did you see?" the shorter one asked.

The taller one shook his head. "We are not that close, you’ll get your own fragment if you’re lucky. Lets keep moving for now."

The shorter one clearly disliked the answer but didn’t push. Several minutes later he stopped at a different tree he had spotted, placed his palm flat against the dense script, and was pulled into a memory of his own.

---

He found himself floating in an endless void filled with thousands upon thousands of glowing sheets of runes. For a moment he could only look around in confusion.

Where is this? This isn’t the forest...

Then he saw the dark-robed figure sitting cross-legged in the center of the void, completely surrounded by the floating scripts. The figure was not writing. He was studying, comparing, and refining with extreme care and patience.

The memory did not move at normal speed. Time around the figure compressed and stretched. The short man watched as the Rune Sovereign continued his work across what felt like billions of years. Sheets of runes were examined, adjusted, discarded, and rewritten. Occasionally the figure would pull a single sheet closer and stare at one individual symbol for an enormous length of time before making the smallest possible change.

After what felt like an eternity compressed into a single vision, the figure finally spoke.

"The connection between the third and seventh grammar layers is still unstable. One more bridge. One cleaner link."

He raised a finger and drew a precise line of light between two separate sheets. The symbols on both surfaces shifted, aligned, and locked into a new, more complex configuration. The figure leaned back slightly and exhaled.

"There. The language is complete. With this, the final step becomes possible."

And the memory ended.

The shorter one opened his eyes. His face had gone pale and his hand dropped from the tree.

He spent billions of years building a complete language that could describe reality itself. I just watched it happen in a compressed stream. When he finished that language, he used it as the foundation for everything else. That kind of work is far beyond any Multiversal. That was a fucking Paragon.

He looked around at the living forest and felt a cold weight settle in his chest.

If knowledge of this ruin ever spreads outside, the Top Races and any remaining Paragons will move immediately. People at our level won’t even be allowed to exist near it. We still have no way to send a message out. For now this has to stay completely quiet.

’I’m sure this guy has also figured something out from his own memories too.’

He glanced at his temporary partner. The taller one was also silent, clearly still processing whatever he had seen earlier.

I wonder what he witnessed in his own fragment...

The taller one felt the shorter one’s gaze and had a similar thought.

Whatever he just saw shook him. I’m not asking, and I’m not sharing mine either. We’re only working together until either of us stops being useful.

Neither of them spoke about the memories.

"Lets keep moving," the shorter one said. His voice was steady, but his hands trembled slightly.

They walked deeper into the forest without discussing what either of them had seen, each keeping his own fragment of the Rune Sovereign’s past tightly to himself.

Farther ahead, Runar felt the density of the living runes rise sharply once again. The trees in this region were enormous, some of them wider than small buildings. The scripts covering their surfaces moved with a heavy, deliberate rhythm. Residual intents clung to nearly every major cluster. He no longer stopped for every fragment. He selected only the densest ones, opened them with the Eye of Myriad Truths, and continued forward while the new information settled.

One particular cluster was far denser and more complete than the others. The residual intent around it pressed against his skin like physical weight. Runar placed his palm against the bark and allowed it to pull him in.

---

He watched the dark-robed figure stand on the highest point of the fully prepared structure. Below him the forest, the suppression field, the light doors, and the barrier were all complete and waiting. The figure looked out over the multiverse with a calm, final expression.

"When those who can truly read begin to gather in the deeper layers, the real process will start," he said quietly. "Until then, the first layer will filter them. It will show them the gap between what they are and what is required."

He raised one hand. The outer barrier flared once and became absolute.

"Only those who can read will pass. That is sufficient."

He lowered his hand and looked one last time at the forest he had written, the runes he had placed, and the Will he had created and left in control.

"I will not witness the ending," he said softly. "But I want the possibility of an ending to exist."

Then he turned and walked off the edge of the structure into the void. He did not fall. He continued forward as the multiverse shrank behind him until the entire ruin was only a single point of light in the darkness.

Then he was gone, and the game began.

---

Runar’s eyes returned to the present. His palm remained against the tree for several more seconds while his mind worked through everything he had collected.

*I’ve absorbed enough major fragments now to see the full sequence.*

*I watched him conducting deep research in the void, refining individual symbols for what must have been an enormous length of time. I saw the moment he completed the final connection and declared the rune language finished. I saw him use that completed language as the foundation to break through and leave the multiverse entirely. I watched him create the Will-lifeform and give it purpose. I saw him perform the final inspection of the structure and set the conditions for the barrier. I saw the exact moment he stepped away and the entire system activated behind him.*

*All of the pieces connect. The Rune Sovereign spent an era creating a complete language of runes capable of describing and rewriting reality. Once that language was perfected, he used it to push beyond the limits of the multiverse and transcend. Before leaving, he turned his research facility into this ruin, created a Will to act as controller and referee, and designed the suppression and layered trials as a filter. The moment he departed, the barrier sealed and the game he designed began running on its own.*

*He was a Paragon who successfully transcended. This place is both his legacy and his final amusement — a long-term test meant to find someone who can truly master the language he left behind. Most of the others in here have only seen one or two scattered fragments and are still guessing at the larger picture. I am the only one who has collected enough to understand the complete structure and purpose.*

*The aura that announced this ruin was deliberately suppressed. If it had carried even a fraction of a true Paragon-level signature, the Top Races and any remaining Paragons would have taken control of it long before any of us arrived. We are only inside because he wanted the game to remain hidden until suitable readers appeared.*

*The stakes are far higher than simple inheritance. We are moving through a Paragon’s personal game, we have no way to send messages outside, and if the wrong forces ever learn what this place really is, it will not remain a competition. It will become an erasure event.*

Runar lowered his hand and began walking again, faster than before. The unread research notes still waited in the depths of his mind. The incomplete runes from the workshop continued to integrate with every step. Behind him the outer forest grew louder with desperate fighting. Ahead of him the living script became heavier and more complex.

He could clearly sense the other strong readers now. Wukong’s chaotic but steadily advancing signature was farther to the left. Vark’s cold, focused presence was ahead and slightly to the right. Several other capable auras were spreading through the deeper forest at different speeds.

None of them had met yet, but the distance between them continued to shrink.

The first layer was no longer simply a forest.

It had become a race.

And the ones who could read were already pulling ahead.

AN: I know the previous Chapters have been kind of repetitive, but that ends now. the next Chapter will be fresh and getting to the main point.
