Chapter 435 (1): This is How the Seven Sacred Virtues Are!
Wayne’s head felt weighed down by an invisible green cap. He planned to give Veronica a good lesson tonight—no, he should be punishing Kristen right in front of Veronica, with Vera lending a helping hand.
He almost let her have her way with him!
Kristen quickly calmed down the harem and had the two other girls form a united front with her. They turned to Wayne in unison, demanding an explanation.
Where does the new girl come from? Is she a succubus from Hell?
She’s wearing the Church of Heavenly Father’s uniform for clergywomen and holding herself with dignity. She looks quite holy at first glance! x2
Hesione’s lips curled into a cold smile. What a wonderful scene it was. She loved it.
Hestia, on the other hand, stared at Veronica, Kristen, and Vera with golden light in her eyes, hoping that the Śār was lying, that these three were only his younger sisters; he hadn’t chosen to fall or gotten lost in desires.
Wayne had pulled an all-nighter making the three girls into cream puffs last night. Though they hadn’t come right out of the oven, they were quite fresh. Hestia would’ve been better off not taking a look. The view ended up crushing her.
With a supporting hand on the sofa, she staggered and almost fell. Tears of humiliation and heartbreak fell down her face. “Śār, I’ve come too late. If I had awakened earlier, none of this would’ve happened.”
Anyone who didn’t understand how heartbroken Hestia was should imagine this scenario: a man and a woman promising to meet each other again in the human world. The male lead overcame great difficulties and obstacles to finally find the female lead, but then he was told that he didn’t have to go through all the trouble. If he wanted to get some, girls would just find him at his doorstep, no matter where he was[1].
That was the long and short of it.
Hestia bawled, her tears rolling down her face nonstop. Her wails would arouse sympathetic heartbreak.
Hesione was at a loss. At the end of the day, Frey was as loyal as ever and had only been badmouthing her because she didn’t know the truth. Should Hesione forgive her?
Kristen, Veronica, and Vera were also stunned. Veronica swallowed quietly, turning to Kristen, who helplessly turned to Vera. Vera turned around and... saw no one.
She could amend that. She threw herself into Wayne’s arms and nuzzled him affectionately. Then she poked him in the face. “Where did she come from? Have you played a trick on her?”
“Yes,” Wayne admitted the truth easily, sitting the three girls down. Amid Hestia’s wailing, he slowly said, “Actually, I’ve been hiding an iden—”
“Master, black tea!”
Damn it. Who’s interrupting me? Don’t they know—oh, it’s Veryl. That’s fine, then.
Veryl served them each a cup of black tea, retreating as quietly as he had shown up. He ignored the crying throughout, disturbing no one and remaining undisturbed.
“How graceful!” Wayne nodded in approval at Veryl’s retreating form. Sniffing the tea, he became even more satisfied with the butler.
“Say it,” Veronica urged. “What have you hidden?”
“I’m not actually human.”
“...” x3
That’s it? That’s old news from several versions ago.
“I was once an angel with six wings. That’s why I have so many of you acting as my wings once I come to the human world.” Wayne patted his empty back and leered at the trio. “Although I’ve lost my wings, I’ve gained you. You are the wings that allow me to fly freely in the sky.”
Kristen covered her smile, and Vera nodded. Veronica, on the other hand, scoffed, “Stop speaking nonsense. That’s in your diary. It’s all lies.”
What? Have I written that in my diary?
Wayne’s eyes widened. When none of the girls believed him, he lamented the reality of dating life. When they were dating, they bought every random lie out of his mouth, but now that they were living together, they didn’t even care about his lies. Where had their love gone?
“Right. Not everyone could be as consistent as I am.” Wayne made a face, speaking flatly. “I’m Hesione, a Seraph and a Śār who represents water.”
Kristen covered her smile, and Vera nodded. Veronica once again huffed, “Cut it out. That’s in the diary, too. It’s all lies.‘
“That’s definitely not in the diary!”
Wayne rolled his eyes at Veronica. The same trick wouldn’t work on the scumbag twice. While Veronica had grown, she hadn’t grown much. She had to work harder.
“I’m serious. I am Śār Hesione, and this is Hestia, my subordinate in Heaven.” Wayne did his best to tell the lies. “I represent purity among the Seven Sacred Virtues of Heaven, but after coming to the human world, the three of you tainted... My bad, I tainted the three of you. Hestia has always admired me. She’s bawling because she can’t accept reality.”
Hestia cried even harder. Not even the Lord of Envy had suffered so badly.
Seriously? x3
The three girls huddled together, with Vera doing the bulk of the analysis, and Veronica and Kristen providing additional information and wrong answers. After a moment, Veronica spoke up on behalf of the group, shaking her head, “Objection! It’s a lie!”
“I’m appealing! You’ve bought off the jury!”
“Appeal denied!” Veronica said with exasperation. “Although I do not follow the Heavenly Father, I have heard about Hesione’s legends. She is an angel of great wisdom, with wings that resemble the first ray of dawn, driving away the fear and despair of the world. She brings about infinite warmth and hope...”
Stop already. I can’t take it!
Hesione pressed a hand to her chest in heartache. At the same time, Hestia held a hand to her chest, bawling her eyes out.
“Hesione is the Heavenly Father’s most favored Seraph, tasked to destroy all filth in the human world. Her purity is flawless.”
Veronica continued to stab Hesione and Hestia in the chest with her words, almost achieving the feat of killing two angels with one monologue.
“Aside from her wisdom and purity, Hesione also possesses incredible holy power. She’s one of the two Seraphim that the Church of Heavenly Father boasts about the most. Aside from Viceroy Mikhael, she’s their greatest asset. You, on the other hand...” Veronica narrowed her eyes. “I remember you having nothing but potatoes on your dining table when we first met.”
“What’s wrong with potatoes? Without potatoes, Windsor would have long met his demise. She should apologize to potatoes right now.” Wayne slapped his thigh and spoke against his conscience, “I’m a potato fanatic who cannot live without potatoes. The baskets of potatoes I’ve stocked up are the best proof.”
“Wah...” Hestia lowered her head, wailing at Wayne, “Wooah... wah... guh...”
“What is she saying? I didn’t get any of that,” Wayne said incredulously.
“She said it’s all her fault,” Hesione said. “If she hadn’t awakened so late, you wouldn’t have suffered so much. Everything is her fault. She is the greatest sinner.”
“Seriously? You understood that? Do you have a thing with her?” Wayne grumbled, turning to the three girls. “That’s the story. I’m a Śār—a Śār who loves potatoes.”
He snapped his fingers, but he didn’t get the response he wanted.
Hesione sighed, nudging Hestia. “Stop crying. Where are your wings? Hurry and prove his identity.”
Hestia extended her wings. The pristine holy light, the pure sacred intent, and the bands of Golden Law made a stark contrast with her bawling face. The three girls gaped in shock.
They huddled back together and discussed the matter, with Vera leading the analysis again.
After a moment, Veronica said seriously, “Objection. Vera said that a scumbag’s words cannot be trusted.”
“Jerk, I’ve also added that his sweet words are the exception!” Vera spoke up to defend herself.
Who are you calling a jerk?
Veronica chopped Vera in the head, putting down the future Sun Knight with a single strike. With the strategist of the group compromised in Kristen’s embrace, no one else could expose Wayne’s lies.
“Fine. If you don’t buy it, I have another version.” Wayne shrugged. “I’m not Hesione. Mona is. A demon set her up, and His Horniness sold her out, making her my secretary. When she awakened and found her purity gone, she refused to face reality. She thus asked me to play Hesione in her stead.”
Why would you admit everything?!
Hesione almost had a heart attack, but she hid her panic under a poker face. When Veronica and Kristen turned to her at the same time, she merely smiled faintly.
It was a resigned smile. She, a secretary, couldn’t do anything when her boss was making up stories.
“Objection! It’s a lie!” Veronica said.
“Don’t say that just yet,” Vera chimed in, raising her hand. “Maybe Mona is—”
Veronica hand-chopped Vera again, not for what she said, but for occupying Kristen’s bosom for so long. Vera fell silent again.
Can’t make a blind girl see the light, can you?
Wayne huffed, telling Hesione not to panic. He knew that even if he told the truth, no one would believe him.
“Do you have any other version, bastard?”
“That one is the truth.”
“Impossible,” Veronica said logically. “If Mona were Hesione, she wouldn’t ask you to play the Śār after losing her purity. You’ll only leave more stain on her reputation.”
That’s right, but she doesn’t have a choice. Do you know about stigma? She can’t lick someone else’s mouth. I’m different. I make sure she can’t pull her tongue out many times!
Wayne crowed proudly. Then he coughed into his fist and said, “Congratulations. Another patch has arrived for the game. Every inconsistency can be explained. Although I’m not the Śār, my status is higher—”
“Stop, Boss,” Hesione hurriedly cut him off. His being the Anointed One was information too sensitive to be shared casually.
“What? Can’t you see that I’m making up a lie for them?”
Lie? You’re telling the truth!
Hesione messaged him and agreed to a few shameful positions according to his preferences, finally getting him to stop spilling the truths.
“You volunteered. I didn’t ask for it.” Wayne was the kind to push further after getting what he wanted. He turned to the three girls and said, “Alright, I lied. I’m not the Śār, and I don’t have any special title. Hestia stubbornly believes my lies because she’s an idiot.”
“Hmm... Hmph... wah...”
“What is she saying now?” he asked in confusion.
“She said you didn’t lie to her,” Veronica explained. “You are the Śār.”
“Really? You understand her, too?” Wayne’s eyes widened. “Pardon me. Do you women have ways to communicate in codes that men do not understand?”
“Yeah!”
“...”
1. The original is literally, “He doesn’t have to go through all the trouble. Air delivery across the country is provided.” It’s a reference to a scam in China, where a man was fooled by an ad for a sex service with the slogan ‘air delivery across the country provided’. ☜
