Chapter 423 (1): Julia Tearfully Told Me that All Fairy Tales Are Lies. - Wayne
Rumble!!
Lightning wove through extending dark clouds. Black chains hung from the dark sky, connecting heaven and earth as manifestations of the Seven Deadly Sins. They painted the world as filled with darkness and sins. All lives that roamed the dark world were sinful beings.
Within the infinite darkness, a complicated golden magic circle hung in the sky, radiating a sacred dignity that feared not the corruption of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Hestia, Olga, and Fred stood on top of the magic circle, each wielding a Sacred Lance of Heaven. With Fred, a support with healing and crowd control abilities, at the top, the three angels formed the stable shape of a Golden Triangle.
Wearing metal armor, Hestia looked like a character from a sci-fi story. Above her was the Sacred Dragon of Heaven she had summoned. It unfolded its wings with powerful holy energy gathering in its mouth, ready to take on enemies coming from the sky at her command.
Olga, named Serceris as a human, also specialized in combat. She donned a similar metal armor. Below her was an armored golden lion with a pair of wings, able to traverse space freely while avoiding detection. It was ordered to deal with attacks coming from below.
There were too many demons here. Even putting aside the now significantly stronger Big Three, there were still close to twenty demons around. It was a tall task for three Thrones to deal with such a formidable group. Before Envy lifted the restriction on the Gate of Hell, they might just stand a chance, and they wouldn’t give up without a try; now, though, the demons had access to Hell’s authority and could tap into their powers in their territories. The balance was completely flipped.
Looking at the defense formation that the three angels had formed, the demons laughed out loud. Just like Wayne and the Goddess of Darkness, the demons made it a hobby to bully the weak. The more the targets resisted, the more excited they were.
While laughing, the demons made sure to praise Envy’s generosity. They speculated that the demon lord had lifted the restriction because he had no other choice, having great trouble taking on two enemies at once.
That was the theory of those who briefly considered the matter. Those who had pondered the matter deeply, on the other hand, were already planning to run away, like the Big Three.
Mattea and Enguema had one foot in their territories in Hell so that they could immediately send their thoughts back to Hell if anything happened. Stolas, on the other hand, wanted to run, but not now. He had a powerful trump card to play: Rognes the Death Knight. It was enough to deal with whatever fate threw at him.
A black portal opened, and a headless figure in black armor walked into the catacombs.
The catacombs had become something else entirely under Envy's reconstruction. Rognes had failed to recognize the environment at first, as the demons and angels faced off.
“Death Knight, in the name of demons, I order you to cut down the three angels.”
Stolas was suddenly clutching a white skull. Rognes turned around. The jawbone of the lifeless skull moved up and down with clattering noises. Its empty eye sockets lit up with two white orbs.
Boom!!!
Killing intent surged as Death energy rolled out. The headless figure marched toward Stolas, hoping to take back his head, but then Enguema and Mattea each produced a skull.
The two lords and the spider queen shared ownership over Rognes’s head, splitting his thoughts into three. Each of them held a key to control Rognes. While one key alone might not be enough to command Rognes, all three of them together could make Rognes forget who he was.
He didn’t care about who Death was, either. All he could see were the three Thrones.
His cape of grey Death energy fluttered, stirring space into sand and radiating an intangible force field. All that existed within, material or immaterial, weathered away on an accelerated timeline.
The knight was too powerful!
He wasn’t even at his peak. He had no head, no horse, no sword, no faith, and no sentience. He was a blank canvas under multiple debuffs.
All around him, the demons scrambled away from the terrifying Death energy, remembering a terrible memory. They weren’t nameless extras but known demons in Hell, but demon lords powerful enough to be listed as the Seventy-two Demon Lords along with the Seven Demon Lords. They only reached this height after countless killings and betrayals.
The fact that they would openly show their fear proved how much Rognes had scared them.
Hestia paled. Olga and Fred also turned wary. They hadn’t been good enough to take on these demons, and now, the alliance had released the Death Knight. It would be difficult for them to buy time until their Śārim returned victorious.
“Frey, why hasn’t Śār Hesione come?” Olga asked calmly.
Don’t panic. The more dire the situation is, the more composure matters.
Panicking isn’t going to help in this situation, anyway.
“Mr. Wayne—no, Śār is in the catacombs,” Hestia said with certainty. “He must have run into a difficult enemy. Just hold on a little longer, and he’ll be here soon.”
“I hope he’ll hurry. Or...”
Olga didn’t finish her sentence. She didn’t have to since the conclusion was evident just by looking at the lifeless Rognes. If Wayne showed up late, the three Thrones wouldn’t even have a pair of intact wings between them.
“Wayne?!” Rognes froze, his foot going still mid-air. The three heads in the Big Three’s grips spoke at the same time, “Angel, is Wayne in the catacombs?”
“Yes, he’s here to destroy you!” Hestia shot back.
“Ah, I remember. He’s stepped into Palis...” Rognes turned around and marched in the direction he sensed Wayne to be.
“Where are you going, Death Knight?”
The Big Three looked at the muttering Rognes in shock, then at the keys in their hands. The keys malfunctioned again. Why was the Death Knight so difficult to deal with?
The keys were, in fact, working. They just didn’t work all the time. When facing the three Thrones, Rognes was an obedient pawn, but as soon as he heard Wayne’s name, the keys were nothing but decorations.
It wasn’t because of Shadow Nightmare or the mantle of the Death Knight, but... because of Julia!!!
The restrictions on Rognes’s thoughts prevented him from thinking much. All he remembered was that Julia had been practicing being a mount underneath Wayne’s groin, and it had been a long time since that happened. The thought depressed him and made him disinterested in anything else.
He didn’t understand why, and no amount of thinking could help him wrap his head around the question since he didn’t have a head. He just knew that he needed to get Julia back.
“Get back here, Death Knight!” x3
The Big Three worked together to order the deserter to return to the battlefield at once. With their thoughts pulling at him, Rognes paused, then continued to walk with renewed determination, declaring arrogantly, “I have a promise to honor. He’s waiting for me. I must not go back on my word.”
That’s it? x3
The Big Three stared as Rognes broke out of their control and vanished. After they exchanged a silent glance, Stolas said with resignation, “On the bright side, we acquired the Death Knight to open the Gate of Hell, and it is open. It doesn’t matter if he listens to us now.”
You sure? The Gate of Hell is under the Lord of Envy’s control! x2
Enguema and Mattea felt helpless. The former lamented the hardships of being a demon lord, while the latter couldn’t believe how unreliable her master was. How absurd that the Lord of Lust had become consumed by sex.
Life’s hard! x3
The Big Three sighed, turning to the Thrones in unison. With a wave, they sent the cannon fodder after the angels first.
The Lord of Envy has empowered you. Hurry to your death already!
Boom!!
More than ten rays of dark light rippled out, creating a multi-colored field. The angels soon found themselves surrounded by the wonderful scenery of Hell.
With the support of their Authorities over their territories in Hell, the demons’ demonic fields each presented a great challenge to the angels.

“Kekekeke—”
Bright laughter rang from somewhere near the western entrance to the underground catacombs, reverberating along the well-connected tunnels. The echoes repeated endlessly.
“Ptui!”
Wayne spat white phlegm to the ground, stomping and grinding it with a foot.
The white phlegm was the Mist Demon. Too stupid to have read classic literature, the demigod-level demon had foolishly entered Wayne’s body and was rendered useless by the inescapable whispers before he even had the chance to use his vitality domain.
“Ignorance and hubris killed you!” Wayne commented. He opened his right eye to open the doorway to the underworld once more, dragging the Sleep Demon to the abyss of death. That concluded the fight.
“I’m allowing you three to reunite. A kind-hearted exorcist like me isn’t easy to come by.”
“Kekekeke—”
He laughed. The feeling of crushing his enemies overwhelmingly with the power of a god was incredible.
The Mist Demon had died from the overpowering existence of an Astral life, ending up corrupted instead when he was trying to corrupt Wayne. The demon barely let out a cry, even leaving behind most of his Seven Deadly Sins before his departure, making him one of Wayne’s many investors.
In comparison, the demon triplets were stingy. Wayne had opened the door, kicked them in, and shut the door, taking them out swiftly. The demons left nothing behind.
“Sir Knight, would you not laugh like that...?” Corte said quietly. “You sound evil. You’re a chosen knight, a hero. That’s the laugh of a villain. You should act more heroically.”
“What, do you have any complaints?”
Wayne waved at her dismissively. The moment he said that, his expression tightened, and he covered his right eye, where blood was trickling through the gaps between his fingers.
The three Holy Maidens rushed over to check on him. Sukra, in particular, was panicking. Facing Corte’s and Galen’s ire, she hurriedly said, “This shouldn’t be happening. I’ve never bled because of it. It’s the same power, and he’s more talented than I am. He shouldn’t experience any side effects.”
“Why would it be so unthinkable?” Galen demanded harshly. “He’s a knight of our churches. His power isn’t compatible with Death. This is only natural!”
“Agreed.” Corte nodded, staring at Sukra. “Speak. Are you a spy sent by the demons?”
“I’m not. I didn’t—”
Sukra hurriedly defended herself, almost revealing the truth that Wayne was the Death Knight.
Unable to spill the secret, she couldn’t give Corte and Galen a reasonable explanation. She anxiously told Wayne to open his eyes and let her check on him.
Wayne opened his bright eye and wiped the blood away. There wasn’t even a single scratch.
“???”
You aren’t hurt! x3
