Chapter 419 (1): Hesione, You Have Fallen! - Auriel

High Reverend’s office, Palis Head Office, Church of Nature.

High Reverend Sandrine stood in the corner like a small-time lackey, not daring to raise her voice. In the room was a reincarnated angel, three Holy Maidens, and a chosen knight, as well as the knight’s secretary, vassal, and pet. She couldn’t afford to offend any of them.

This office, she thought, was going to become the venue of an orgy. If she, someone who didn’t have a label to match the others, stayed around, she might be caught in the crossfire. Then there would be a simple apology with no offer of compensation. She would just be collateral damage.

Yet she couldn’t leave.

Wayne had said that since the Church of Sun and the Church of Moonlight had been taken out, the demons, creatures of obsession they were, weren’t going to spare the Church of Nature. A wave of attackers was on their way, and as the District High Reverend, she would be first in the line of fire—she would be the demons’ primary target.

Sandrine didn’t know where Wayne’s confidence came from, but the all-knowing look on his face seemed genuine; he believed that no one knew better than he did. She desperately wanted to flee, but with her life on the line, her legs refused to take that first step.

Sandrine hadn’t seen a wave of demons yet, but there were definitely waves of something else. Those things were bouncy.

The reincarnated angel who had been glaring daggers at another woman, especially, was positively lewd. Was she really an angel? Was she not a demon undercover in Heaven?

Yes, Hestia was still glaring at Hesione. Though it was pointless, her persistence and determination were impressive.

To get back at Hestia, Hesione sat—no, she didn’t take the VIP seat. Instead, she stood behind Wayne with a straight face, the very picture of a loyal, devoted bodyguard. Her eyes scanned the room like blades, exerting tremendous pressure on Corte, the Holy Maiden of Sun, for eagerly throwing herself at Wayne.

Hesione actually liked Corte’s type. She was energetic, straightforward, with not a single malicious bone in her. However, times had changed. Wayne was no longer a lecherous lowlife, but the Anointed One. Everything changed because of that.

Corte wasn’t a naive little bird. Her outgoing personality became an outgoing proposition, and her straightforward nature became a shrewd woman’s front to disguise her ulterior motives. The despicable schemer must not be allowed to get close to the Anointed One.

Corte, thoroughly intimidated, sent a telepathic message to Galen, “What do I do?”

“There are more predators than prey,” Galen responded with exasperation. “She’s not interested in sharing. Just stay there and behave. What do you mean by ‘what do I do’? Do you actually want to throw yourself at him?”

“I don’t want to, but it’s the goddess’s oracle. Whether I like it or not, I have to—” Corte quieted. “Hey, you. You’ve already figured out a way to complete the oracle, haven’t you? Tell me now and let me join, or I’ll make sure you can’t do it!”

Galen was speechless. The oracle was vague, so they would be fine not doing it. Why was Corte being so eager? Why wouldn’t she be a little more passive?

If they threw themselves at Wayne, wouldn’t they become the first Holy Maidens in history to lose their purity while still in office? That was not a legacy anyone would want.

Still, what should they do about the goddesses’ oracles?

Galen frowned in thought. Glancing at the quiet Sukra, she changed the subject, “The Holy Maiden of Death has been keeping the blindfold on. There must be something unusual about her eyes. I remember that the Church of Death has been quiet for years, but suddenly, the Holy Maidens showed up in Palis. It has to be for the Death Knight. Keep an eye on her. The woman is not to be trusted. Don’t let her sacrifice you.”

“Do you mean that she’s received the same oracle?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Galen scoffed. “Wayne isn’t the Death Knight. Why would the Holy Maiden of Death be here for an oracle about him?”

Corte had a tendency to say things without thinking them through. It was already absurd for Wayne to be three chosen knights in one, coveted by the goddesses. But adding Death on top of that? Why not Darkness too? Why would she even voice such a ridiculous thought?

In the entire office, Givenchy had nothing but her master on her mind, and Isabella had nothing but free food on her mind, but the others had not stopped thinking for a moment.

“You’re loyal, but lacking in power,” Wayne said to Givenchy, who stood in respectful silence. “The advantages of an Astral being... My bad for not giving you the authority.”

He lifted the restrictions off Givenchy with a wave, unlocking several abilities, including corruption, devouring, and regeneration through white foam.

Among his few vassals, the two with the highest clearance were Senna and Anastasia. They could do almost everything Wayne could do, including recruiting more vassals. They could turn those they had corrupted into their vassals.

Anastasia wouldn’t abuse the ability, but Senna... It was hard to tell.

She knew Wayne didn’t like unhinged women, but he did like a baddie. It was a rare trait within his harem. Nobody else could pull it off.

Givenchy wasn’t as important to Wayne as Senna and Anastasia, so he hadn’t unlocked her vassal-making skill. She was still in her probationary period. If her performance was satisfactory, she would move on to her second probationary period.

She was a work animal to him, after all. What kind of human would he be if he didn’t work her to the bone?

“There’s also your terrible ability to keep a secret. A little lie made you reveal everything.” Wayne tapped his head, coming up with a solution. “Next time you run into an enemy with overwhelming charm, and they use mind magic to control you, don’t say my name. Tell them that your master is the Lord of the Void.”

He decided on an alias without hesitation.

The Lord of the Void, Marshall, had been one of his very first investors. To the current Wayne, Marshall was a nobody investor with mediocre power, having made a small investment. But back when Wayne was just getting started, Marshall had been a respectable early-game boss. Marshall had chased Wayne down to invest in him, even giving away his life. Wayne would have to be inhuman not to use his title.

I chose you, Lord of the Void!

With that out of the way, he reached behind him and patted—but missed Hesione’s backside. Turning to her with a flat look, he smothered a grin while saying, “Mona, why are you standing so far away from me? Come here. Take two steps forward.”

Hesione kept a straight face to conceal her struggle. She had been ignorant and tainted the Anointed One’s sacred body. To do it knowingly now would be a grave offense. She didn’t want to do it. She refused to.

She hadn’t explicitly pointed out his identity. She knew Wayne. If she said it out loud, his ego would become insufferable. She was still counting on training—no, guiding the Anointed One to become a proper saint. She couldn’t reveal the truth in advance.

When you attempt to tame the abyss, the abyss is taming you.

For a while, Hesione had surrendered herself. After a few incidents where she initiated things, she had started to treat that like eating and drinking. She had made her peace with it. Whatever he wanted to do, she did not care.

But the dynamic had shifted again, and Wayne found himself rediscovering the joy of disciplining her. He had to admit that while the Goddess of Darkness was incorrigible, it was a great joy to be in her place.

A leader who didn’t know how to toy with their subordinates? Just look at the Goddess of Death. She had been keeping to Herself, not bothering anyone, but where did that get her? She was currently stuck in the limbo between life and death, waiting for the Death Knight to rescue her.

Wayne wasn’t trying to whitewash the Goddess of Darkness’s approach. It was simply how things worked. Give subordinates too much idle time, and they start thinking. Then over time, the servants would think of themselves as their own masters!

Wayne didn’t mind if Hesione tried to overthrow him—in fact, he would cheer her on with all eight tentacles. Still, there was a certain charm to a cautious Great Arachangel. If they did it right now...

His eyes lit up. He had been preserving energy for two days. He needed another post-coital philosophical musing.

“I understand, Mona,” he said. “Let’s go into the back room. Brief me on your work.”

Hesione’s composure broke. “Boss, I have nothing to brief you on, and you... you should rest. I strongly recommend conserving your energy for the demons.‘

Hestia raged, drawing her Sacred Lance of Heaven to guard the back door. As long as she was here, no one was defiling the Great Archangel’s purity.

The tiny office became boisterous with the skit taking place. Whether anyone else was enjoying themselves, Wayne was thoroughly amused.

“Hm, that was fast...”

He rose from his seat and went up to the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the dark silhouettes crossing the plain below. “Hestia, go catch up with your colleagues. Remember to leave one of them alive. I need to interrogate them for information.”

Hestia frowned at the window. “Mr. Wayne, those are demons’ pawns who have become succubi under the Seven Deadly Sins’ influence. They aren’t my colleagues.”

“They’re succubi, and you’re Lust incarnate. Seems about right.”

“...”

Everyone else who had come up to the window agreed. Forgive their bluntness, but compared to Hestia, whose very body aroused lewd thoughts, those succubi looked like innocent girls from respectable families.

“Stop standing around.” Wayne seized the chance to give Hesione a firm pat on the backside. “Go!”

Hesione stepped back with a blush. Like pie charts, her eyes showed three parts indignation, three parts resignation, four parts secret delight, and ninety parts guilt.

This is my fault. I’ve given the Anointed One an opening because I’m not vigilant enough.

“I can’t leave, Mr. Wayne!” Hestia glared at Hesione, grinding her teeth and speaking derisively through them, “Ever since she walked through the door, she’s been putting on an act, pretending to be a proper woman to seduce you.”

The others quietly nodded in agreement. They remembered the secretary sitting in Wayne’s lap earlier. She was obviously playing the demure, innocent woman now for a kinky roleplay.

How shameless!

Galen scoffed wordlessly, while Corte said out loud, “The angel lady is right. I agree.”

You shameless women. Are you all blind?

Hesione nearly had a stroke. She had been doing everything to safeguard the Anointed One’s purity. Why would that be seduction...

Right, it would seem like it!

Hesione had long lost her purity. She knew that the forbidden fruit was always most tempting. Looking back at her behavior, she realized that the outsiders would naturally interpret her change in attitude as coquettish flirting.

Oh, no. The Anointed One might think the same.

Her expression crumbled. Her life was so very hard.

“Hestia, the demons are coming. Hurry,” Wayne urged.

“Boss, I’ll assist the angel in fighting the demons.”

Hesione thought fast. Before Wayne could say another word, she melted the window with sacred flames and summoned a greatsword of Holy Light, rushing toward the attackers in a streak of white light.

The attackers were all skimpily clad, looking like they belonged in the dark alleys in Hell. They were nothing special aside from being especially erotic.

Hesione’s temper flared. How indecent, she thought. Without hesitation, she swung her sword down, aiming to wipe out the succubi as quickly as possible to stop them from corrupting the Anointed One.

Boom!

From behind, a surging wave of golden light approached. Hesione didn’t have to turn around to figure out that it was Hestia, and she wasn’t aiming only at the succubi, but also at her.

Your lustful body is a sin, too! Hesione scoffed inwardly. Compared to Hestia, these succubi posed no threat. Rather than keeping her old subordinate around the Anointed One and allowing a scandal to happen, it would be better for her to send Hestia back to Heaven personally.

Clang!!

Hesione’s aura surged. Casting large swathes of sacred flames to burn the one succubus before her to ash, she spun around and parried the incoming sacred lance with her blade.

Hesione’s and Hestia’s eyes met. They both saw the intent to murder in each other’s eyes.

You lewd creature, stay away from him! x2
