Chapter 165 : The Power Of The Tailed Beast Can Destroy A Country

Seeing how serious Riku was, even though Karui didn’t fully understand just how terrifying a tailed beast could be, she had a vague sense—it was incredibly powerful. So powerful, in fact, that even someone as strong as Riku was afraid of it.

Samui, who did know how dangerous a rampaging tailed beast could be, was still surprised to see Riku so worked up. It was a stark contrast to the calm, composed version of him she’d seen before.

In truth, let alone Karui and Omoi—even Hinata and Shino had no real concept of what a tailed beast was.

In Riku’s class back in Konoha, only Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura truly understood the terror tailed beasts could unleash. The others didn’t have a clue.

Samui looked calmly at Riku and asked, "So what do you want to do? Are you giving up on this mission because of it?"

Riku shook his head and replied evenly, "No. I just want you all to understand in advance how powerful the tailed beast is—to give you some idea, so you don’t make any mistakes if we encounter it."

Samui turned to Karui and Omoi. "Did you two hear that?"

Although they still didn’t fully grasp what a tailed beast was, Riku’s serious tone alone made them understand—this thing was no joke. They both nodded, their expressions solemn as a quiet sense of awe settled in.

Riku then turned to Hinata and Shino. "If you realize the Three Tails has been provoked, don’t worry about me—or about each other. Run. Run as fast and far as you can. The Three Tails is easy to recognize. It resembles a giant turtle, but with three tails."

He continued, "Kumogakure also has a tailed beast—the Eight Tails. Its Jinchūriki is incredibly strong. That’s because they have the power of a tailed beast inside them. Tailed beasts are so destructive they could easily level a country."

"With a single attack, they can destroy entire mountain ranges."

"That’s why tailed beasts are considered the ultimate weapons of each village."

"Every time one loses control, it causes catastrophic damage—even Genin, Chūnin, and many Jōnin die. So you’d better get that idea into your heads now."

Samui stared at Riku with increased respect. This kind of knowledge was rare for someone his age to possess. Especially considering the Nine Tails hadn’t rampaged in Konoha for years. The fact that he knew this much meant he had likely done his research—and that kind of information was usually kept classified within each village.

Clearly, Riku’s position in Konoha wasn’t that of a typical Special Jōnin. It was no wonder others his age had no concept of what tailed beasts were truly like.

Karui and Omoi looked at Samui, silently asking for confirmation.

Samui nodded. "Every time a tailed beast goes berserk in Kumogakure, it results in mass casualties—Jōnin included. And it’s not just us. Konoha, Iwagakure, Sunagakure, and Kirigakure all experience the same thing. When the Two Tails loses control, the aftermath is devastating."

Now Karui and Omoi finally understood—tailed beasts were natural disasters given form.

But then Shino asked, "If tailed beasts are such terrifying creatures, why don’t the villages just kill them instead of sealing them inside people?"

Neither Riku nor Samui had a direct answer for that.

They exchanged a glance before Riku turned to Shino and said, "Because tailed beasts are disasters... with incredible power. Now imagine if that power was used for the village’s benefit."

Everyone went silent, letting that idea sink in.

Seeing the thoughtful looks on their faces, Riku concluded, "I’m only telling you all this so you’re prepared. If the Three Tails shows up, don’t try to fight it. Don’t even get close. Just run. When a tailed beast is involved, our only goal is to survive."

Hearing Riku say that made Hinata, Karui, and the others feel an overwhelming pressure settle on their shoulders.

Samui looked at Riku. "This mission is dangerously risky. And Konoha only classified it as an A-rank?"

Riku chuckled. "That’s not on Konoha. It’s just that the situation changed."

Originally, if the mission had only been to eliminate some rogue ninja, then an A-rank classification was appropriate—maybe even S-rank, depending on the threats involved. But now, with a tailed beast in the mix, there was no doubt this mission qualified as S-rank.

They’d probably have it reclassified once they got back.

Before departing, Riku turned to Samui. "Please lend me your hand."

Samui froze.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

She had seen this kind of behavior before. As a beautiful woman with a striking figure, she was no stranger to unwanted attention.

Clearly, she assumed Riku was making a move on her.

Her expression cooled instantly.

Karui and Omoi didn’t say anything—but they exchanged amused glances.

Seeing her reaction, Riku quickly clarified. "Don’t get the wrong idea. I just want to leave a mark on you—so that if we encounter the tailed beast, I can support you immediately."

Seeing the calm in his eyes, Samui hesitated... then slowly nodded.

There was no malice in Riku’s gaze.

She extended her hand.

Riku didn’t take it—he simply tapped the back of it with two fingers.

In an instant, a Flying Thunder God formula appeared on the back of her hand.

Samui blinked in surprise. "What is this?"

Riku didn’t explain. "It’s a technique. If you need help, I’ll be able to get to you quickly."

"Hopefully, I won’t have to use it."

Samui didn’t say anything more. Ever since their earlier conversation, she realized Riku hadn’t made a single inappropriate comment or action toward her. She had misjudged him.

But Samui’s personality was cold and distant—polar opposite to her alluring appearance.

So she didn’t apologize or express regret. She simply moved on.

Once they’d wrapped up their preparations, Riku and the others headed toward Akita’s hideout.

To get there, they had to cross over to an island—by boat.

That area was where the Three Tails currently resided. And now, it was roaming free.

As the boat moved deeper into the sea, the fog grew thicker and thicker.

Every now and then, massive sea creatures could be seen moving beneath the waves.

Thankfully, none of them attacked their ship.

Still, Karui, Hinata, and the others watched the enormous sharks circling below with growing unease.

"Why are there so many sharks here? And they’re huge! They’re not going to attack us, are they?"

Riku and Samui stood side-by-side on the deck, both focused on the sea around them. Neither was sure whether these circling sharks posed a threat.

Riku frowned.

So did Samui.

But neither spoke.

Standing next to Riku, Hinata turned her head to look at him. As long as he was nearby, she felt safe.

Ino clung to Riku’s arm, although her gaze kept drifting downward uneasily.

Even Shino—who rarely showed much emotion—stood at the railing with a deep frown.
