Chapter 96 : Sign The Summoning Contract And Meet Jiraiya

At this moment, Riku didn’t really want company. He was meditating, deep in thought, and preferred to be alone.

But Anko showed up anyway, ignoring his sullen expression. With a grin, she said, "Didn’t I promise you before? As long as you pass the Chūnin Exams, I’d give you the Summoning contract for Ryūchi Cave."

Riku looked up at her, puzzled. "But I didn’t become a Chūnin."

Anko, standing casually in front of him, waved her hand dismissively. "It’s only a matter of time. The Third Hokage already made arrangements for you. With your strength, there’s no way you won’t pass. Even he said that someone like you will definitely stand out in this Chūnin Exam."

Riku didn’t seem particularly moved. He glanced at Anko and smirked. "You’re just bored, aren’t you? The exams are over, and now you’ve got nothing to do."

Anko, being a Konoha special Jonin, rarely went on missions. Now that the Chūnin Exams had ended, she really had nothing keeping her busy.

Instead of denying it, she grinned. "And you’ve got nothing to do either. All the other candidates are training with their Jonin-sensei right now, but you’re just hanging around at home."

Seeing her smug expression, Riku sighed. "Fine. So, where’s the contract? Give it to me."

Anko chuckled. "You’re planning to sign the Summoning contract here?"

Riku glanced around his home. Signing the contract here wasn’t ideal—who knew what kind of creature he’d summon the first time? If a giant snake suddenly appeared, it could destroy half of Konoha.

He thought for a moment, then casually tapped Anko on the shoulder. In the next instant—before she could even question it—they both vanished from the room and reappeared in the forested mountains behind Konoha. It was the same place where Riku often trained. Several kilometers away from the village, it was safe from any collateral damage.

Anko looked around in surprise. "Was that... the Flying Thunder God Technique? That was so fast! And you used it without breaking a sweat."

"I remember even the Fourth Hokage found it difficult to teleport with passengers. But for you, it’s like nothing."

Riku didn’t want to dwell on that subject. He turned to her with a smile. "Sister Anko, just hand over the Summoning contract."

"Alright, alright," she said with a mock sigh. "So impatient. I’m not going to back out on a promise."

She pulled a Summoning scroll from her pouch.

This was the official scroll used for pacts with Ryūchi Cave. Only those who had signed a contract with them possessed it—although some who attempted and failed had them too.

There were many summoners associated with the Three Great Sage Regions.

Riku unrolled the scroll and glanced over the names already signed on it.

After Orochimaru’s name, the next one surprised him—Nawaki. And following that, Anko’s own name.

Noticing his gaze lingering on Nawaki’s name, Anko explained, "That was Orochimaru’s first disciple—Tsunade-sama’s younger brother. Back then, Orochimaru truly valued him. He treated Nawaki like his own student, not like how he treated me later."

"Unfortunately, Nawaki died in the Second Great Ninja War. Even now, Orochimaru often mentions him. I think he was someone very special to him."

Riku, of course, knew about Nawaki. Back when Orochimaru hadn’t yet walked the path of twisted science and forbidden jutsu, Nawaki had been important to him.

It was witnessing Nawaki’s brutal death right in front of him that planted Orochimaru’s obsession with immortality.

But Riku didn’t want to dwell on that memory.

He knew the Summoning Technique well. Without hesitation, he added his own name to the scroll.

Then he looked at Anko and asked with a smile, "Sister Anko, if I summon some kind of monster, do you think it’ll cause a disaster?"

Anko smirked. "Well, you’re the one doing the summoning. Not my problem. And honestly, I don’t think anything you call up would be strong enough to threaten you."

She had full confidence in Riku’s strength. After all, he had killed Orochimaru—what was a giant snake in comparison?

Just as Riku was about to bite his finger for the summoning, a voice rang out from nearby.

"Oh? There’s a beautiful woman here."

Riku immediately frowned.

Anko, on the other hand, had no idea who it was—until they both turned toward the voice.

Riku’s expression froze. Anko’s lips twitched. "Why is he here?"

Riku recognized the man immediately, though he still asked, "Who is that? Why does he have white hair?"

Anko rubbed her temples. "That’s Jiraiya. One of the Legendary Sannin. He’s incredibly strong—maybe even stronger than Orochimaru. He’s usually off somewhere in the world. I didn’t even know he’d returned to the village."

Riku chuckled. "So one of the Sannin appears now. Guess we’ll be seeing the last one soon too."

Anko gave him a serious look. "Don’t underestimate him. He may be eccentric, but he’s no joke in battle."

Even though Riku had defeated Orochimaru, Anko always reminded herself that Orochimaru had been caught off guard. And in her mind, Jiraiya was the stronger of the two.

Riku, however, saw it differently. In terms of raw chakra, they were about the same. The only real advantage Jiraiya had was Sage Mode.

Orochimaru, on the other hand, had his eyes set on longevity and mastering all jutsu. He was obsessed with the Uchiha bloodline. If Riku didn’t know better, he might’ve suspected that Orochimaru had some knowledge of the Ōtsutsuki clan already.

While Riku was lost in thought, Jiraiya walked over—with Naruto in tow.

Naruto had just started his training under Jiraiya, though the older man didn’t seem fully committed yet.

When they reached them, Anko gave a polite nod. "Master Jiraiya."

As Orochimaru’s former student, Anko was familiar with the other Sannin. They’d crossed paths more than once.

Jiraiya looked at her and blinked. "Well, well. I was wondering who it was. Turns out it’s Anko. Haven’t seen you in years... and look at you now—beautiful, and what a figure."

To be fair, Anko did have a stunning figure—tall, well-proportioned, and athletic. Her tomboyish clothing only slightly hid what was obvious.

Had she dressed more femininely, she’d probably be considered one of the most attractive women in the entire village.
