Chapter 225 : Riku Stayed Behind To Suppress Naruto Who Went Berserk
In the early days of the Cloud Village, there were two Jinchūriki who possessed the Nine Tails’ chakra—Kinkaku and Ginkaku. These two were truly Kage-level powerhouses, but during the Impure World Reincarnation, they couldn’t display their full strength and were sealed.
If they had truly been at their peak, there’s no way they would’ve been sealed so easily.
Even with these two Kage-level shinobi and the elite forces of the Cloud Village, they still failed to capture the Nine Tails. That alone is proof of how terrifying the Nine Tails really is.
And now, the Nine Tails sealed inside Naruto is only half of the original beast.
Back when Naruto reached the Six-Tails state, he had completely lost his mind. Even then, only Kakashi and Guy were able to confront him directly.
Unless Guy opened the Eighth Gate, it would be impossible to suppress a fully transformed Naruto.
But right now—at this moment—having Guy use the Eighth Gate... Even if he were willing, neither Riku nor Kakashi would agree to that.
A year later, in the Fourth Great Ninja War, Guy would open the Eighth Gate just once... and die. Riku could never allow him to waste that final strike—not when that kick was destined for Uchiha Madara.
Guy saw the serious expression on Riku’s face and nodded. "Be careful."
Kakashi frowned. "When Master Jiraiya arrives, give me a sealing tag."
After speaking, he took out a high-level sealing talisman—but by then, Naruto had already begun to manifest his fifth tail.
Naruto’s sanity was completely gone.
"ROAR—!"
The overwhelming chakra of the Nine Tails burst out, sweeping across the forest like a storm.
BOOM!
The violent eruption of energy shattered every tree and chunk of earth in the surrounding area.
Riku frowned, his own chakra surging outward like a stormfront.
"Mr. Kakashi... in this state, I’m afraid that sealing tag won’t be enough."
As a master of sealing techniques, Riku’s expertise far exceeded even Jiraiya’s. With a single glance, he could tell that the sealing talisman Kakashi held wouldn’t work against Naruto in his current form.
Seeing the grim look on Riku’s face, Kakashi nodded. "Be careful."
Then he backed away.
He understood clearly—if he stayed, he’d only hinder Riku.
At that moment, Sakura and Chiyo arrived on the scene.
And not just them—Temari and several Sunagakure shinobi appeared as well.
Temari had made up her mind. Gaara was her younger brother—her last family in the world—and she would never allow him to die.
So she had led her squad back from the border to the village, rallying the Sunagakure ninja to push forward and rescue Gaara.
But as soon as she arrived, she saw Naruto’s monstrous state.
She was completely stunned. "That’s... a Tailed Beast..."
The Sunagakure ninja were alarmed, fearing that Gaara had gone berserk. But the moment they saw the massive, crimson chakra tails, they realized—it wasn’t Gaara.
Gaara had One Tail, Shukaku.
Kakashi and Guy moved to stand beside Sakura and Temari and explained the situation.
"Just now, Deidara from Akatsuki insulted Gaara’s body... Naruto lost control and went berserk. In this state, he’s far too dangerous. We can’t get close to him. Only Riku—"
Hearing Riku’s name, Sakura’s heart clenched. She stepped forward quickly and looked at Kakashi.
"Riku is in there? Sensei, it’s dangerous—Naruto’s out of control!"
Kakashi spoke seriously. "But right now, no one else can stop him. Only Riku has the strength and experience to go against a Tailed Beast."
Hearing this, the Sunagakure ninja finally realized who Riku was.
The man whose name had spread across the entire shinobi world in recent years.
The man with a legend for subduing Tailed Beasts.
In Sunagakure, aside from the former Third and Fourth Kazekage, no one else could suppress a Tailed Beast.
And Naruto—he wasn’t just any Jinchūriki. He held the Nine Tails.
Even if they didn’t know exactly which beast it was, Konoha only had one Tailed Beast. Who else could it be?
Sakura clenched her fists, frustrated. "I still can’t do anything... Why am I always so useless in moments like these..."
Temari was in shock as well. "Gaara is... dead?"
She couldn’t believe it. Riku had promised to bring Gaara back alive.
But Chiyo stepped forward and spoke gently.
"Temari... by the time we got here, the Tailed Beast had already been extracted. No Jinchūriki can survive that."
Temari burst into tears. Gaara... who had just begun to change... was gone again.
For the first time, Temari wept openly.
But after a while, she wiped her tears and thought of Riku. "Riku’s in there. He promised he’d bring Gaara back... Gaara’s already gone... Don’t tell me someone else is going to die too..."
Even though she’d heard the rumors—that Riku had once subdued the Three Tails—she still couldn’t help but worry. A Jinchūriki losing control wasn’t the same as fighting a wild Tailed Beast.
Kakashi, noticing Temari’s concern, added, "No one else here has a chance of stopping Naruto. Only Riku has both the strength and the experience to do it."
Neji, standing among the crowd, looked toward the forest where explosions continued to burst.
He frowned. "You better not die... If you do, Hinata will be devastated..."
Meanwhile, Riku—now the center of everyone’s worries—stood alone before Naruto.
By now, six tails had already formed behind the rampaging boy.
Naruto’s consciousness had been completely consumed.
He was no longer in control.
In truth, he wasn’t even being controlled by Kurama itself—but by its chakra.
At this moment, the Nine Tails was pleased. Its malicious chakra was running wild inside Naruto’s body. But Naruto was no longer in charge—the chakra was.
While the Nine Tails was indeed a sentient chakra entity, what Naruto tapped into was only the evil half of its chakra.
This corrupted chakra surged through Naruto, pushing his destructive power to monstrous levels.
His body had begun to sprout skeletal features reminiscent of a Tailed Beast—his hands digging into the ground like an actual fox.
The red-and-black chakra coating his body shimmered with the sinister gleam unique to Tailed Beast chakra—a manifestation of the purest malice within the Nine Tails’ heart.
Riku stood firm, frowning.
"Your control over the Nine Tails’ chakra is still far too weak. You can’t even manage Six Tails. Compared to the First Hokage’s wife or Uzumaki Kushina... the gap is enormous."
While neither Uzumaki Mito nor Kushina had fully mastered the Nine Tails, they had always retained their sanity even during a full transformation.
In other words, they never lost themselves to rage.
That was largely because Kurama had always been forcefully suppressed inside them. It hated them for that.
In Naruto’s case, the Nine Tails was still locked behind a cage.
But in Mito and Kushina’s bodies, it had been pinned down to a metaphysical rock by chakra chains, constantly tormented.
Moreover, their sealing techniques were so powerful that they could draw out its chakra at any time—and the Nine Tails was powerless to resist.
Naruto, however, was different.
His Uzumaki blood was diluted. He lacked the massive chakra reserves and sealing prowess of his predecessors. He had neither the heritage nor the techniques to properly control Kurama’s power, let alone use it as his own.
While Naruto did carry Asura’s chakra, his body couldn’t compare to Senju Hashirama’s, nor to his mother’s.
It wasn’t until the Fourth Great Ninja War, when the Sage of Six Paths awakened Asura’s chakra within him, that Naruto became a true chakra powerhouse.
