Chapter 1850
Sitting in a taxi, Song Guanchao sent Wu Qiangwei a message: "What are you doing?"
He initially thought she would reply instantly, but it took five minutes before he got a response: "In a meeting."
"???" Song Guanchao: "Did you return to Jiangzhou?"
"No, I’m at home in a meeting."
"..." Alright then, anyway, Song Guanchao couldn’t really understand why she needed to have meetings at home.
But upon realizing that Wu Qiangwei’s parents seemed to be officials too, he could somewhat understand.
"I’ll go to the meeting first, and let you know when it’s over."
Looking at the message from Wu Qiangwei, Song Guanchao deleted the line he had typed and replied with "Oh."
He didn’t know where Wu Qiangwei’s home was yet, so he decided to head to the city first.
As the car got off the expressway, Wu Qiangwei called and asked, "Why are you looking for me?"
"I was thinking about what to eat for lunch."
Wu Qiangwei felt a bit puzzled by his words, but suddenly, she thought of something and asked, "Did you come to Modu?"
"Yes."
"I can’t have lunch with you today, I’ll book a room for you and we can have dinner together tonight."
"And you’re the one paying for the room?"
This suggestive remark made Wu Qiangwei blush, and she lightly scoffed, "Then come to Xuhui District, find a hotel on your own, and wait for me to contact you tonight."
"Are you going to pay respects at noon?"
"No." Wu Qiangwei hesitated for a few seconds and said, "I have a blind date."
Song Guanchao was a bit surprised, but not astonished.
In the first year he met Wu Qiangwei, she went on several blind dates.
Now, Wu Qiangwei was already thirty-two, and her family must be pressuring her more tightly.
"Then I should help you by vetting the person, send me the address, I’ll check out your blind date."
"No need for you to vet. I won’t talk about it, let’s chat when we meet tonight."
Clearly, Wu Qiangwei didn’t want to talk too much about this topic and hurriedly ended the call.
Song Guanchao sensed a hint of despondency in her tone, but over the phone, he couldn’t see her expression and found it hard to judge.
Let’s talk when we meet in the evening.
The taxi arrived in Xuhui District, he grabbed a bite to eat and found an upscale hotel, booking a suite.
After all, being the place that would bear the brunt of things, the room had to be spacious, otherwise, there wouldn’t be enough room.
In the hotel, he first took a shower to wash away his weariness, then lay down to sleep.
He took a nap to recharge his energy for a good showdown tonight.
At four in the afternoon, his alarm went off.
He brushed his teeth, washed his face, changed clothes, and by half-past four, Wu Qiangwei called him, asking him to meet directly at a restaurant.
The restaurant was nearby, and Song Guanchao walked there.
Despite being the sixth day after New Year’s, Modu remained bustling, even more crowded than usual.
When he arrived at the restaurant, Wu Qiangwei still hadn’t arrived.
He flipped through the menu back and forth, waiting for almost twenty minutes before Wu Qiangwei arrived late.
She was wearing a dark gray wool coat, with a rose-red turtleneck sweater underneath, and tight jeans below.
Her thighs and hips were beautifully wrapped in the jeans.
She took off her coat and placed it on the chair beside her, and as she sat down, the sweater clung to her abdomen, outlining an alluring and sexy waistline.
The highly saturated rose-red sweater enhanced her fair complexion.
Her long hair cascaded down her shoulders like a waterfall.
Song Guanchao could smell that familiar and pleasant scent on her.
"What are you looking at?" Seeing him stare at her intently without blinking, Wu Qiangwei playfully scolded.
"Looking at a beauty." Song Guanchao, unabashed, grabbed her hand and placed it in his palm.
His bold move made Wu Qiangwei reflexively pull her hand away, but he held it tightly.
"How did the blind date at noon go?" Song Guanchao teased her fingers, asking.
Wu Qiangwei’s face slightly darkened and she fell into silence.
Song Guanchao asked, "Is your family urging you urgently?"
Wu Qiangwei shook her head, pulled her hand back, and picked up the menu: "Let’s order."
She was avoiding the topic, not wanting to discuss it.
Actually, Song Guanchao was the same, not wanting to talk about it.
But marriage is a major event in life; you can’t just choose not to discuss it.
Song Guanchao observed her expression, quelling the urge to discuss it, and decided to eat first and talk later.
Throughout the evening, Wu Qiangwei’s condition was visibly off; although she tried her best to adjust her mindset, Song Guanchao could tell she wasn’t in the mood for anything.
After dinner, she didn’t want to stroll, leaning on Song Guanchao’s shoulder she said, "I’m a bit tired, is the hotel far from here?"
"Not far."
"Then let’s head back."
"Okay."
Song Guanchao held her by the waist, passing through the bustling crowd, returning to the hotel.
Inside the room, Song Guanchao didn’t make a move.
In this state, it wasn’t appropriate to do those kinds of things.
He wanted to have a good talk with Wu Qiangwei, to see what she really meant.
But Wu Qiangwei tiptoed, hooked around his neck, and her closed eyes led her face up for a kiss, blocking his mouth.
Song Guanchao grabbed her shoulders and pushed her back a bit. Wu Qiangwei opened her eyes and quickly said, "Don’t ask, or I’ll go home."
Song Guanchao’s lips twitched, damn it... Is my mood bad, and treating me as her vent?
"I won’t ask."
Song Guanchao snorted, reached down with his right hand, directly touching her abdomen, and reached inside her jeans.
Wu Qiangwei yelped, tightly clamped her legs together, her face instantly flushed, and she unconsciously bit her lip, with watery eyes full of shyness.
Such a tempting sight, how could Song Guanchao resist? The hand inside her jeans quickly lifted her legs off the ground, and he turned towards the sofa.
After just a week apart, Wu Qiangwei seemed as if it had been ages, even wilder than Song Guanchao, taking the initiative throughout.
Half an hour later, Song Guanchao leaned on the sofa, and Wu Qiangwei, disheveled, lay on him, her body sticky with sweat.
Song Guanchao caressed her jade-like back and asked, "What are you thinking?"
Wu Qiangwei’s thoughts abruptly returned from fulfillment, a faint sadness filled her brows. After a few seconds of silence, she said, "Secretary Gao is leaving Nanjiang."
"Huh?" Song Guanchao asked, "What?"
What’s this about Secretary Gao?
Wu Qiangwei got up from him and asked, "Do you have a cigarette?"
Song Guanchao thought about saying women shouldn’t smoke, but the woman in front of him wasn’t ordinary, and didn’t need his advice.
He went over, picked up his pants from three meters away, and took out the cigarettes and lighter.
Wu Qiangwei lit one and elegantly took a small drag, saying, "Secretary Gao might leave Jiangzhou in the next two years."
Song Guanchao asked, "Did Secretary Gao say that?"
Wu Qiangwei shook her head: "Just a rumor, the shoe hasn’t dropped yet, so there’s still a chance for changes; he wouldn’t say so publicly. It’s what the elders in my family said."
Song Guanchao slightly nodded, such big news, if there wasn’t some definite word, it wouldn’t have reached Wu Qiangwei’s ears.
He just didn’t understand, what does Secretary Gao leaving or not have to do with her blind date?
