Chapter 88: I’ll Never Tire of This Sight
After washing her hands and sitting on the sofa, Su Yuqing noticed Chen Mo was lost in thought about something. A playful mood suddenly struck her. She pressed her small, still-chilly hands, which she’d just dried, against his cheek. Looking at him with a smile, she asked, "What are you thinking about? You’re so spaced out."
The chill on his cheek snapped Chen Mo back to his senses, and he turned to look at Su Yuqing.
Smiling, he reached out and gently took her cold little hands, lifting them from his cheek. He looked at Su Yuqing and said, "It’s nothing. Just spacing out after our meal."
After he spoke, he realized he was still holding Su Yuqing’s small hands. They were icy cold, but they quickly warmed up in his grasp.
Thinking back to how she had proactively played a prank on him, Chen Mo couldn’t help but smile.
This meant Su Yuqing’s psychological state was another step better than before.
She even dared to tease him on her own now.
The better Su Yuqing’s state became, the more he couldn’t bear to let her suffer the same fate as in the previous timeline.
He hoped that under his care, Su Yuqing would get better and better, until she could finally step out of the closed-off world in her heart.
He didn’t mention the footprints outside the window; Chen Mo had already come up with an excuse to have Su Yuqing sleep near him tonight.
After lunch, the two sat side by side, and soon they were leaning against each other, watching TV as they drifted into a light sleep.
Shoulder to shoulder, head to head, the picture they made was one of perfect, youthful bliss.
Some time later, Chen Mo, whose breathing had grown steady, unexpectedly opened his eyes.
He had only appeared to be asleep; in reality, he was just pretending.
Opening his eyes, he immediately turned his head to glance at Su Yuqing. Her breathing was even; she was clearly fast asleep.
He gently turned, holding Su Yuqing by the shoulders as he stood up from the sofa. After placing a throw pillow on the sofa, he slowly lowered Su Yuqing’s head onto it.
Once he was sure he hadn’t woken her, Chen Mo tiptoed to the guest room she was using and quietly, deliberately broke the lock.
That way, the door to the guest room couldn’t be opened.
This way, he could definitely trick Su Yuqing into sleeping outside her room for the night.
After finishing his mischief, he tiptoed back to Su Yuqing’s side. He sat cross-legged on the floor in front of the sofa, quietly resting his own head on the throw pillow and watching her sweet, sleeping face from up close.
Just watching her quietly like this brought him an immense sense of peace.
If time could stand still, Chen Mo felt he could stay there and watch her for a lifetime without ever getting tired of it.
As he watched, he couldn’t stop himself from unconsciously reaching out and gently caressing Su Yuqing’s soft little face, his thumb lightly stroking her rosy cheek.
As if sensing his touch, Su Yuqing suddenly reached out and grabbed his hand. At the same time, like a little kitten, she nuzzled her face against it before falling soundly asleep again.
Her adorable appearance almost melted Chen Mo’s heart.
’How can there be such an adorable girl in this world.’
With a look of pure adoration, Chen Mo gazed at the girl before him. After planting a kiss as light as a butterfly’s wings on her forehead, he rested his head back on the throw pillow and fell asleep with her.
They only woke up when an alarm clock started ringing.
The moment they raised their heads, they inadvertently bumped them together.
Su Yuqing immediately clutched her head with both hands, an adorable expression on her face.
The sight made Chen Mo stare, dumbfounded again, completely forgetting the brief pain in his own head.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, they both started laughing.
Su Yuqing asked, a little surprised, "How did our sleeping positions end up like this?"
Chen Mo just smiled and didn’t explain.
When Chen Mo and Su Yuqing entered the classroom for their afternoon classes, they were still the center of attention, but the amount of discussion about them had lessened considerably.
Seeing Chen Mo at school, Zhou Hao immediately ran over to tell him about going to the police station to report the tip.
"Holy crap, Old Mo! You didn’t tell me that giving a tip would be like getting interrogated as a criminal! They were so thorough, asking where I got the lead, the source, everything. The atmosphere, their whole vibe... I almost couldn’t take it." Recalling his experience at the police station at noon, reporting the important tip about the wanted fugitive, a lingering fear crept into Zhou Hao’s heart.
Hearing Zhou Hao say this, Chen Mo could picture the scene as if he’d been there himself. He chuckled. "If you do nothing wrong by day, you won’t fear a knock on your door at night. You didn’t do anything bad, so what was there to be afraid of? All you had to do was tell them everything I told you, from start to finish, and you’d be fine. You were there to provide a tip, not as a criminal. No need to be scared.
The police were just conducting a routine inquiry. There’s a lot you could have just said ’I don’t know’ to or refused to answer. They’re just following protocol and have to ask as many detailed questions as possible to get a clear picture.
After all, the person giving the tip might not be able to articulate everything perfectly. They might not lay out all the information and clues they have in one go.
That’s why they need to go through a whole detailed questioning process to ensure you’ve relayed all the important information you know.
This also makes it easier for them to compile the information they’ve gathered later on, which helps with their investigation and deployment."
Hearing Chen Mo’s explanation, Zhou Hao looked at him with a stunned expression.
"Old Mo, you’re incredible! To be able to analyze the police’s reasoning so thoroughly... it’s like you’ve been a cop before or something."
"I just picked it up from TV. Watch enough of it and you start to understand. Anyway, you didn’t say anything you shouldn’t have, did you?"
"Of course not! I only know so much. Even if they asked me more, I had nothing else to say. I basically just answered with ’I don’t know,’ ’I’m not familiar with that,’ or ’I’m not sure.’"
"So when they asked how you found out about the tip on the wanted criminal, what did you say?"
"I said I heard it while teaming up for a game instance. I told them that during a previous instance run, a teammate started talking in the party chat about seeing someone who looked like a wanted criminal. I took note of it and private messaged the guy to ask for details."
"Did the police ask about finding that person?"
"Of course they did! But what was I gonna say? I just told them it was a random dungeon party, and I never added the person as a friend, so there’s no way to find them now. But since I had a lead on a wanted man, I felt I had to report it. True or not, if it helps the police solve the case, and I get a shot at the reward money, then it’s worth it."
Hearing Zhou Hao’s explanation, Chen Mo clapped him appreciatively on the shoulder and said with a laugh, "Haozi, you’re really good at making things up. I was right to come to you for this."
"Don’t even start. I was terrified I’d make some stupid mistake. The feeling of being grilled by the cops is no joke." Just thinking about it made Zhou Hao’s legs feel weak, as if he wanted to turn and run.
