"Chen Mo, come over here. I have something to tell you."

Wang Lulu had actually planned to tell Chen Mo this in the morning.

However, she had gone to bed late, so she woke up late this morning. By the time she arrived, the exam was about to start, and she didn’t have time to talk to Chen Mo. Now that there was some time in the afternoon, she immediately pulled him aside, wanting to discuss what she’d seen at night.

Chen Mo was a little curious about what Wang Lulu could possibly want with him, so he followed her to a deserted corner outside the classroom.

"What’s wrong?" Chen Mo asked, looking at Wang Lulu in confusion.

"Take a look at this." Wang Lulu suddenly pulled out her phone and played a video for him.

In the video, a person was standing outside Chen Mo’s house from a considerable distance, staring at his home.

Chen Mo casually scrubbed through the video and was surprised to find that Wang Lulu had recorded for a full hour.

"He watched for an hour, and you recorded for an hour?" Chen Mo asked, looking at Wang Lulu in astonishment.

"Yep. At first, I thought he was just spacing out or something, but I kept getting the feeling he was staring at your house."

Chen Mo was once again impressed by the sheer extent of Wang Lulu’s boredom.

’She actually stared at the guy for a whole hour.’

"And that’s not all. I saw this on Wednesday night, but I was worried I might be misunderstanding the situation, so I didn’t say anything to you."

"But guess what? Last night, the guy showed up again, just staring at your house with that same fixed gaze. I have no idea what he’s up to. Do you think he could be a thief?"

Wang Lulu said, her voice laced with concern.

She had heard that there were no adults at Chen Mo’s home. And while high schoolers were physically developed enough to arm-wrestle an adult, Wang Lulu, being a girl, still believed people their age were relatively vulnerable and needed protection.

The thought of just two kids, Chen Mo and Su Yuqing, at home was worrying. If a bad person targeted them, it would be incredibly dangerous.

Naturally, she had to explain the situation clearly to Chen Mo.

The reason she hadn’t called the police directly was that she felt she first needed to confirm whether or not Chen Mo knew the man.

Her mind had a way of exploring all the possibilities.

She’d heard that Chen Mo’s parents were apparently very wealthy and well-connected. So, it wasn’t out of the question that this man could be a bodyguard hired by his parents to protect him in secret.

That’s why she wanted Chen Mo to make the call himself.

’A thief? No, it couldn’t be a thief.’

Before the time reversal, Chen Mo had lived alone just fine, and his house had never been broken into by a thief.

’Although time had reversed to this point, his very existence had long since triggered the butterfly effect.’

’But it was unlikely to randomly conjure up a thief that hadn’t existed before.’

’Especially since his home’s security was now stronger than it had been before the time reversal.’

’Sure, the only addition to the house was a seemingly delicate girl like Su Yuqing.’

’But if something were to actually happen, she could easily be the one to call for help.’

’Before, when I was alone, all they had to do was subdue me, and they’d be in the clear.’

’Now, with an extra person, it’s more complicated.’

’So, he could basically rule out the possibility of a thief randomly appearing and targeting his house.’

’After all, by normal logic, a divergence in the timeline was more likely to occur in an area that had become weaker than before the reversal, not stronger.’

’Who would be reckless enough to show up *after* security had been improved?’

’But if he could rule out a thief, another possibility couldn’t be completely dismissed.’

’Kidnappers.’

’They might think a male high school student would be difficult to kidnap and control, so they could be planning to take the girl instead.’

’Before, I was always the one at home, so they wouldn’t have known there was a girl in the house.’

’Now that Su Yuqing has suddenly appeared, it’s not impossible that they’ve mistaken her for the family’s daughter.’

’My parents are quite wealthy. It’s not entirely out of the question that I’d be targeted.’

’But for something that even the wealthiest families rarely encounter in a lifetime to suddenly happen to me?’

’It felt a bit unrealistic.’

’Especially targeting a high school student, right before the college entrance exams.’

’Kidnapping someone like that would cause a massive stir.’

’It’s definitely not a good target for a kidnapping.’

’If it’s neither of those, then what else could it be?’

Just as Chen Mo was wondering, Wang Lulu voiced her other theory. "Why don’t you ask your parents? Maybe this person is a bodyguard they hired to protect you in secret?"

Wang Lulu looked a little excited as she brought up this possibility.

She thought it sounded like something straight out of a TV drama, which was pretty cool.

Hearing her say that, Chen Mo had a flash of insight.

Lately, because of everything with Su Yuqing, he had been paranoid, always assuming the worst-case scenario.

He was terrified that Su Yuqing would be in danger, terrified that the unknown killer was still after her.

So, he had subconsciously overlooked the possibility that this person might be one of the good guys.

Now that Wang Lulu mentioned it, Chen Mo remembered complaining that his parents were never home and didn’t seem to care about him.

But he recalled them saying they had hired someone to watch over him in secret.

Before the time reversal, Chen Mo was just an ordinary high school student, not some detective. If a professional was protecting him in secret, he would have been completely oblivious.

Forget before the time reversal; even now, after it, he hadn’t felt anyone secretly watching over or protecting him in his daily life.

It was only by chance that he’d discovered those footprints outside the window.

He immediately asked Wang Lulu for the two video clips.

"They’re both over an hour long. My data plan can’t handle sending files that big," Wang Lulu grumbled.

Chen Mo smiled sheepishly. "In that case, I’ll just take a couple of clear screenshots."

At two points in the video where the man’s face was relatively clear, Chen Mo used Wang Lulu’s phone to take two screenshots and sent them to himself.

"Whether this guy is good or bad, I have to thank you. I’ll treat you to a meal next time to return the favor." After confirming he’d received the images, Chen Mo gave Wang Lulu a brilliant smile.

That smile went straight to Wang Lulu’s heart. How many girls could resist the temptation of a boy who was so sunny, handsome, good-natured, and came from such an outstanding family?

For a moment, her heart couldn’t help but race, and she stared, captivated, her face flushing red.

But when she thought about Su Yuqing’s own amazing qualities and how perfectly she and Chen Mo fit together, Wang Lulu stopped her imagination from running wild.

Instead of fantasizing about an impossible romance with Chen Mo, she much preferred shipping the perfect couple that was Chen Mo and Su Yuqing.
