Chapter 579: Dark Aster Crashes the City, Golden Lion Dominates New York
The New York sky had been torn open.
Before the blue spatial pillar had even faded, another purple rift forcibly squeezed its way out from deep within the clouds.
The two colors collided, like two monsters frantically fighting over a doorway in the sky.
Tony Stark had just crawled out from a pile of Chitauri wreckage. He glanced up, the expression inside his faceplate freezing for half a second.
"Jarvis."
"Tell me, what other ghost can fall from the sky today?"
Jarvis’s voice quickly responded.
"Sir, based on current energy readings, I suggest you do not expect an optimistic answer."
A split second later, the ruined husk of a massive black warship breached the rift.
Its hull was snapped, its tail trailed thick smoke and fire, and its outer shell was riddled with blast craters.
It was the wreckage of the Kree Empire warship, the Dark Aster.
And at the very front of the wreckage, a figure draped in long blonde hair stood on the shattered bow, arms crossed, laughing wildly.
"Jihahaha!"
"Interesting! Too interesting!"
"This broken dungeon actually merged instances?!"
Golden Lion Shiki, Pirate Admiral of the Golden Lion Pirates, a great pirate from the old era who vied for supremacy alongside Roger and Whitebeard. His bounty had long been intentionally obscured by the World Government, but in the archives of the older generation of Marines, this mad lion’s threat level had never been lower than the Yonko.
The half-section of the Dark Aster beneath his feet should have crashed into New York, crushing several streets into ruins.
But right now, that behemoth hung eerily suspended in mid-air.
The power of the Float-Float Fruit held it dead in the sky.
The entire city was pinned beneath a massive shadow of despair.
Shiki’s blood-red Mangekyo Sharingan swept over the battlefield below, quickly spotting the bloodied Kaido.
Kaido—Governor-General of the Beasts Pirates, with a bounty of 4,611,100,000 Beri, currently employed under Security Guard No. 007 at the Dungeon Shop in Foosha Village.
This monster, who had run rampant across the seas for years, now had a cracked shoulder, a broken horn, and a gruesome wound on his abdomen left by Hela’s black blade.
The grin on Shiki’s face grew even wider.
"Yo!"
"Hey, rookie rent-a-cop, who beat you half to death? If that brat Blake sees you looking like this, he’ll probably deduct your pay!"
Having just hammered Cull Obsidian into the Earth’s crust, Kaido heard the taunt, the veins on his forehead throbbing violently.
He threw his head back, unleashing a roar that pierced the clouds.
"Shut up, you legless old ghost!"
"If you dare say another word, I’ll drag you down from the sky right now and crush you to pieces!"
Shiki laughed even louder.
"Jihahaha!"
"Come on!"
"If a watchdog like you can fly up here, I’ll fight you with one hand!"
Hovering in mid-air and listening to them curse each other out, Tony was silent for two seconds.
"Alright."
"Flying pirate old man, fire-breathing horned monster, alien god family dispute, Grimace’s corporate team building."
"I’m starting to miss the days when I only had to deal with Earth terrorists."
At the other end of the block, a cluster of figures plummeted heavily from the edge of the purple rift.
Star-Lord, Peter Quill, hugged the Orb for dear life as he crashed onto the roof of a taxi, denting the metal into a human-shaped crater.
He sat up, wincing in pain. Before he even had time to curse, Rocket rolled out of a nearby trash can.
Covered in ash and clutching a bent rifle, Rocket yelled.
"I hate magic!"
"I hate spatial rifts!"
"And I really hate that flying old man in the sky!"
Groot poked his head out from under a shattered billboard, raising a wooden hand.
"I am Groot."
Rocket pointed at him, shouting.
"Exactly! You hate him too!"
Gamora flipped to the ground, her eyes instantly locking onto the Orb in Quill’s arms.
"Don’t let go!"
"If Ronan gets his hands on that, this city is completely doomed!"
Drax crawled out of an overturned bus, spitting out blood-stained glass shards.
"Where is Ronan?"
"I’m going to tear his throat out with my bare hands!"
Just as he spoke, another chaotic blue-and-purple rift blasted open at the end of the street.
Ronan the Accuser strode out. Clad in black armor and gripping his war hammer, his face was entirely consumed by the explosive rage accumulated from being humiliated by Shiki. Famous across the galaxy for the massacre of Xandar, the fanatic Kree leader was a supreme war criminal in the Nova Corps archives.
His eyes immediately locked onto the Orb in Star-Lord’s arms.
Violent purple light seeped through the cracks of the Orb, vibrating hard enough to shatter every pane of glass in the vicinity.
"Hand it over!"
Ronan took one step forward, but his gaze drifted to Ebony Maw in mid-air.
The gray-skinned elder was using telekinesis to relentlessly pull the Tesseract from Loki’s arms.
Ronan’s face darkened completely.
"Thanos’s dog."
"Dares to steal my prize?"
Ebony Maw slowly turned his head, looking at him like a worthless speck of dust.
"Ronan the Accuser."
"The Master gave you a chance."
"And you treated his supreme mercy as your own absolute authority."
Ronan tightened his grip on his war hammer. The purple light of the Power Stone raced madly up his arm from the handle.
"I do not need Thanos’s mercy!"
"With the Power Stone, I will destroy Xandar with my own hands, and then I will show Thanos who should kneel!"
A devastating purple shockwave smashed ruthlessly into the ground from the base of the hammer.
Half the street was instantly peeled away.
Cars, streetlights, Chitauri corpses, and shattered bricks were all violently blown away by the berserk force.
Captain America, Steve, raised his shield to desperately protect a group of civilians, his body shoved back dozens of meters.
Hairline fractures were already forming on the edges of the Vibranium shield.
Gritting his teeth, he roared, "Everyone fall back! Don’t go near that purple light!"
Natasha hauled up a little girl whose face was covered in blood, frantically shoving her into a subway entrance.
"Captain, we can’t hold them off much longer!"
Hawkeye drew his bowstring to the limit on a rooftop, his arrowhead locked dead on Ronan, but he hesitated to fire.
He knew that arrow would be meaningless.
Today’s enemies had far exceeded the limits of their comprehension.
On the other side of the street, Corvus Glaive made his move.
He ignored Ronan, and he ignored Shiki.
The most lethal assassin and vanguard of the Black Order lowered his stance and, like a ghost, bypassed Thor’s lightning, slicing straight out of the shadows toward Loki. His life tied to his peerless glaive, Corvus Glaive could resurrect infinitely as long as the weapon remained intact. While he held no pirate bounty, his threat level equaled the World Government’s most wanted criminals.
His target was incredibly clear.
The Space Stone.
As long as he secured the Tesseract, coupled with the location of the Power Stone, Thanos would instantly possess two Infinity Stones.
Loki was currently being forced into the ground by Ebony Maw’s telekinesis. All ten of his fingers were split and bleeding, yet he still refused to let go of the cube.
He keenly felt the piercing killing intent approaching from his blind spot.
"Thor!"
