Chapter 32: When a Gun Fires, Someone Dies; When Someone Dies, Someone Cries
Just then, two more figures rushed out from the depths of the cabin, drawn by the sound.
One was Gu Sican, with her neat short hair and military-style uniform. The other was a calmer-looking young man, also dressed in a black suit.
However, when they saw the scene on the deck, both of them froze on the spot.
Lu Yun completely ignored the two newcomers and simply held out his hand.
Seeing this, the portly Lei Yaoyang hastily presented the small, sealed wooden box.
Lu Yun took it casually, weighed it in his hand, and only stopped after confirming it had some heft.
Watching this, Lei Yaoyang felt as if he’d been granted a royal pardon. He immediately lowered his head, held his breath, and stood perfectly still, terrified of drawing the attention of that terrifying man.
He was even screaming prayers in his mind.
’Oh, heavens! Bodhisattva Guanyin! Buddha! Whichever Immortal is listening! Please, I’m begging you, just make this master leave! He’s absolutely terrifying!’
’Captain Fang and Captain Ren are late-stage Anjin masters! To think they were like paper dolls in his hands!’
’I, Lei Yaoyang, am only twenty-five this year! I’m in the prime of my life! It took so much effort to marry six gorgeous, charming wives!’
’I... I haven’t enjoyed them enough yet! I think I can still marry a few more even prettier ones! I haven’t even reached the peak of my life!’
’If I die here today, it’ll be over for me, but what about my six beautiful wives and concubines?’
’They’re still so young. Wouldn’t that just mean some other bastard gets to enjoy them?! No! Absolutely not! I have to live! I must live!’
The fat man’s inner monologue was incredibly dramatic, but his face didn’t show a hint of it. He just tried to shrink into a ball, hoping to reduce his presence in Lu Yun’s eyes.
When Lei Yaoyang saw Lu Yun about to turn and leave, the heavy stone in his heart finally fell with a thud.
He sighed in relief, feeling that he had, for the moment, snatched his life back from the Ghost Gate.
As for the responsibility of a failed mission... that was something to worry about later. It was better than becoming a cold corpse right now!
Lei Yaoyang even began to fantasize that once this was all over, he would go back and properly "comfort" his six wives, then find an excuse to go out and have some fun for a few days to calm his nerves...
However, this hard-won moment of peace was suddenly shattered by a woman’s voice!
"Lei Yaoyang! Don’t you dare give him that box! Get it back!!!"
The voice came from the cabin entrance. It was the valiant, short-haired Gu Sican!
Hearing this, the expression on Lei Yaoyang’s face instantly shifted from the relief of a survivor to one of deep-seated resentment.
His whole chubby face scrunched up as if his parents had just died, and he looked at Gu Sican in the distance with a mournful and helpless gaze.
’For God’s sake, woman! Didn’t you see what just happened? Both captains are down! What are you trying to prove at a time like this?’
’That’s a Grandmaster of Huajin!’
’With our shoddy skills and a few lousy handguns, are we even a warm-up for him?’
Lei Yaoyang cursed his luck, wishing he could rush over and clamp his hand over Gu Sican’s mouth.
He knew this Miss Gu’s personality all too well. She had a powerful background and strong abilities, but because of that, she sometimes acted with exceptional boldness, even recklessly, without a care for the consequences.
Lei Yaoyang now felt that life had never been so difficult. He wished he could just faint on the spot and be done with it.
But no one expected that in this hair-trigger moment, Gu Sican would actually be so decisive as to open fire!
"BANG!!!"
The sharp, violent gunshot exploded abruptly in the silent night air of the docks.
The muzzle flash was piercingly bright as the bullet tore through the air, heading straight for Lu Yun’s left leg.
However, she had underestimated the perception and reaction speed of a Grandmaster of Huajin!
The instant Gu Sican’s finger pulled the trigger, Lu Yun had already anticipated her move!
He didn’t dodge, because there was no need!
There was a ready-made shield right here—and the best kind at that, a human shield.
In a flash, Lu Yun’s right hand shot out and grabbed the back of the portly Lei Yaoyang’s collar!
"Huh?"
The fat man only had time to let out a short cry of surprise before he was yanked in front of Lu Yun by an irresistible force, perfectly blocking the bullet’s path!
The echo of the gunshot still hung in the air.
The expressions on the faces of Gu Sican and the young team member beside her, Xiaochen, instantly changed from resolute determination to utter shock and stupefaction.
Their eyes were wide as they stared intently at the spot where Lu Yun had been standing.
There was no sign of Lu Yun.
There was only the all-too-familiar figure of Lei Yaoyang, who had been used as a human shield and now stood in his place!
Lei Yaoyang himself remained in the rigid posture he’d been pulled into, a look of terror and confusion lingering on his face.
His mind went blank from the sudden turn of events; he hadn’t even had time to process what had just happened.
After a few seconds of dead silence, Lei Yaoyang blinked his small eyes.
"Hiss... huh?"
He sensed that something was very wrong with a certain part of his body.
He subconsciously looked down at his left leg...
There, on the outside of his left thigh—less than an inch from a certain "critical area" that symbolized a man’s dignity and happiness...
A horrifying, bloody hole had appeared. Fresh blood was gushing out, rapidly staining his pant leg!
The delayed, intense pain began to violently assault his nerves!
"AHHHHHHHHH!!!"
A shriek that barely sounded human erupted from the depths of Lei Yaoyang’s throat!
The fat on his face twitched uncontrollably from the extreme pain, and beads of sweat instantly covered his forehead.
"Gu Sican!!! You bastard! You son of a bitch! You crazy woman!!! I’m going to kill you! Ahhh! It hurts so much! My leg!"
"My... my family jewels were almost gone!!"
He howled while struggling and writhing with all his might, trying to escape the terrible pain.
However, no matter how much Lei Yaoyang struggled, the hand gripping his collar like an iron pincer held him firmly in place, keeping him positioned between Lu Yun and Gu Sican’s gun.
The fat man’s struggles were utterly useless, serving only to make the wound bleed faster and cause himself more pain.
All he could do was endure the excruciating pain in his leg while cursing Gu Sican, the one who fired the shot, with the most vicious words he could muster.
Lu Yun stood behind the portly Lei Yaoyang, his expression unchanged. A mere Mauser pistol, a single-shot firearm with limited power and a low rate of fire.
In the eyes of a Grandmaster of Huajin like him, it was no different from a child’s toy.
Lu Yun had experienced too many storms in his life. Back around the time the Yin Dynasty fell, when pirates from the Wa Country ran rampant, he, as a passionate Martial Artist, had naturally infiltrated the camps of the Wa Country’s army to carry out assassinations and sabotage.
Back then, he wasn’t facing just one or two handguns, but rows of rifles, machine guns, and even barrages from small-caliber artillery!
Lu Yun had charged through terrifying battlefields, through hails of bullets and clouds of gunpowder smoke.
He had even personally slain several of the Wa Country’s Ninja, those masters of stealth and assassination who moved like ghosts!
Compared to the dangers of a real battlefield, Gu Sican’s shot seemed so "amateurish" in its timing, angle, and power.
’This woman really has some nerve!’
’It’s just that when a gun goes off, someone dies. When someone dies, someone cries. And when people cry...’
