Episode 3-5 Dealing with Carlos

Sophia and Regis were asked to set up a forum for discussion with Carlos, the head of the Spiel family.

That's how it came about in the office of the Spiel family. I was pinching my desk and facing Mr. Carlos. On Mr. Carlos' side, Regis refrains.

"We were told the approximate story. Honestly, I'm surprised you're under such circumstances. Can I check the information first?

"Yes, of course."

"First things first. I knew you were a concubine's child, but is it true that you're isolated from each other?

"Yeah, it's true."

"So you say you're neglected at home?

"... Yes"

The moment I nodded, Mr. Carlos' pale eyes were engulfed with the colour of discouragement.

Well, that's right. Trying to marry me and my daughter would be aimed at strengthening our connection to the Granchez family, and you'd think it wouldn't make sense for a neglected child.

... Ugh, should I have kept it hidden?... No, it's not fair if you lie there. Besides, it's too late.

I thought maybe he would refuse to cooperate at this point, but Mr. Carlos only grumbled "well" after a long silence.

"Then here's the next question. I can understand the idea of putting huge rights on the cards of the deal. Sure enough, the Spiels will be convinced, as well as the Granchez."

Mr. Carlos cut the words there once, "but -" and looked at me just to make sure I didn't miss any action.

"If there really is a way to gain such a right,"

A piercing gaze. A boulder should be said to be the head of the Count's family, not a lot of pressure. But for me, it's the way I expected it to be, and there's no reason to be surprised.

I took Mr. Carlos' gaze directly from the front.

"If sugar can be produced by mass in this region, how about it?

"Sugar, you say? Unfortunately, sugar can only be made at low temperatures"

Disappointment floats in Mr. Carlos' face. So I lifted the edge of my mouth to make sure it was quick.

"Right. Tensai grows only in cold regions, so it won't be possible to grow it in warm Granchez or Spiel areas."

"What are you trying to say? Are you going to tell me you're going to produce it somewhere and transport it?

"No, I know the crops that can be grown in this region and that are the source of sugar"

"... what, you say? Do things like that really exist?

"Yeah, definitely"

"So you're saying that sugar can be produced in bulk exclusively? If that's true, it's too much for trading material. You'll get your freedom for sure. But... if that's true, why don't we make a deal directly?

"When I get fame, Mr. Caroline won't shut up."

"Hmm. Sure, you're through..."

Uh-huh. It's amazing if it's true, but I don't believe it - I guess so. Well, I'm not lying, so let's be honest.

"If sugar becomes cheaper, you will also be able to sell a wide range of treats, starting with pudding"

"When it comes to pudding...... oh, is that a slightly strange textured treat? That is delicious indeed. But isn't that sunny?

"Huh? Oh, that's true"

A few days is the limit even if you put it in the fridge. It's normal to save at room temperature in this world, so a day is the limit... how do you know that?

"Actually, I've been trying to sell it and I've been doing a lot of research on it. I gave up because I didn't have sunshine."

"I see..."

Or did you try to sell it? No, I didn't invent anything, and I don't have a problem with product registration or anything in this world... well, no.

"Pudding doesn't get sunny, but I know some sunny treat recipes. So I don't think it would be a problem to sell that one. And even a treat that doesn't get sunny, it should be possible to sell it if you make a store in a big city."

"Hmm. If it's all true, you get terrible rights..."

Mr. Carlos is silent to indulge in the content. I turned my gaze to Regis, who had been listening to me by my side for a while.

"What did you think when you heard the story now?

"I have no knowledge of internal affairs, so I cannot answer you. But... Lady Sophia trusts Lady Lion completely."

"... Sophia?"

Oh, this is a good flow. You can't hide any malice before Sophia's grace, so it'll be more proof than anything else that says I'm not lying.

Mr Carlos seemed to think the same way, softening his attitude.

"Lyon. I'd like you to let me check, but is it good to say that earlier stories will let us divide them up?

"Of course it is. People, money, essentially the Spiels, so I'm not complaining as long as we can keep ourselves free."

"Hmm. Then just one more confirmation. You said you wanted your freedom. I mean, does that mean you don't want to marry Sophia?

Ugh. Well, you're right. Talking to Sophia doesn't make sense unless you talk to Mr. Carlos. I wasn't thinking about excuses, this is awkward!

"Yeah, that's right. The..."

"... you don't mean you don't like Sophia, do you?

"Of course it is! Sophia is a very good kid, and she's fun to be with. However, since we are only children of each other, I don't know if we can think of it that way right now..."

"Right. So if it's the form you said you'd adopt, you don't have to complain?

"Oh, yeah... I don't mind..."

"Okay, okay. Then let's move on in that direction."

Oh, is that so easy to convince me?... Yeah, really?

"Fine arrangements, then."

My worries grew, and the conversation went on with a ton of clapping.

That concludes the discussion with Mr. Carlos in an instant. Now that we're free, we're happy to return to the Granchez mansion.

- Lion, I'm detaining you.

Waiting at home was a merciless word from Mr. Caroline.
