Chapter 56: Passion Perfume
Stefan’s POV
I’d barely gotten a piece of meat to my mouth when the System chimed, loud enough that I nearly choked on it.
[EXP: 1000/1000. Ready to level up.]
I set the meat down slowly, bracing myself, because at this point every notification came with either a reward or a threat to my testicles, and I honestly couldn’t predict which one was coming this time.

I sat there, the wooden spoon I was using frozen halfway back to my plate, letting all of it settle in. Five free points. Ten Miracle Authority, on top of whatever I’d already scraped together, is definitely real progress toward getting my emergency shop access back for good.
And a whole new passive with my name basically stitched into a bloodline I still hadn’t fully wrapped my head around.
Then the system showed its face again:
[Congratulations again, Host. Well earned.]
I blinked, genuinely caught off guard. That tone sounded warmer somehow, softer around the edges, none of the usual clipped efficiency the System usually threw at me like I was an inconvenience it was contractually obligated to deal with.
"About time," I thought, chest puffing up a little despite myself.
"I’ve earned some actual respect after everything I’ve survived on this planet."
I lifted a cup of something sweet and herbal to my lips, letting the warmth of it settle my nerves, and turned my body slightly away from the table, angling my mouth down toward the cup so anyone watching would think I was simply savoring the drink.
"So," I murmured, barely moving my lips, "hoping this means good things going forward. You and me. Solid business relationship from here on out." I said to the system.
[That depends entirely on Host’s attitude.] A pause, weighted, almost teasing. [It could be very rewarding.]
The System replied.
I smiled into my cup, satisfied, feeling something almost like camaraderie building between me and the entity that had spent the last few days threatening various parts of my anatomy.
Then the system dinged with a notification:
[+5 Free Attribute Points to distribute.]
[Select an Attribute to Enhance.]
• Charm
• Authority
I bit the corner of my lip, thinking it through.
I knew I had gathered a bit of charm through the Incubus ascension missions but Authority is still pretty fresh.
And wasn’t authority one attribute that would keep me from being treated like a nobody in this damned world?
"Authority." I immediately chose that.
[Allocating Attribute Points...]
[Authority +5]
[Current Authority: 10]
I nodded then raised my head fully and straightened, ready to continue eating the herbal delicacy that was served.
That was when my eyes caught movement near the courtyard’s main entrance.
A new group of women swept in, and the whole energy of the room shifted the moment they crossed the threshold.
Where the warriors carried themselves stiff and coiled with spines straight even mid-meal, always half-braced like danger might announce itself at any second - these women moved loose, easy, laughter already spilling out of a few of them before they had even reached the center of the hall.
Every one of them shared that same exaggerated hourglass shape I had gotten used to seeing everywhere on this planet, but wrapped here in fabric that caught candlelight and shimmered with every step, deep jewel tones instead of the muted browns and grays the warriors wore.
Each one trailed her own lady- in-waiting a step behind, quiet and robed, carrying small satchels or fans or folded cloths.
One of the newcomers reached out and squeezed another’s arm mid-conversation, both of them dissolving into an unguarded laughter, heads tipping back, completely unbothered by who might be watching.
Another twirled once on her way past a cluster of dancers, joining the rhythm for two full beats before peeling off again, grinning the whole time. Warm smiles, easy touches, none of the careful control I’d watched Jonquil and Belladonna and Zinnia wear like armor since the day I met them.
The women approached the Queen’s table first, dropping into smooth, practiced bows, exchanging words lost beneath the drums, and the Queen’s own expression warmed considerably at the sight of them, something almost affectionate crossing her face before she gestured them toward a section of seating set apart from the warriors, angled to face them directly, like guests settling in for a performance about to begin.
"Elites," I thought, watching the easy, golden way they carried themselves.
Given the whole setup - the feast, the returning column, the Queen’s obvious pride - I guessed this was some kind of victory celebration, the warriors coming home from whatever war they’d been fighting before I dropped into the middle of their lives.
I grinned to myself, actually happy and very relaxed for the first time since I had landed on this planet. Finally. An actual party. One I got to enjoy instead of just barely surviving.
I turned back to Jonquil, who hadn’t looked up once through any of it, still working through her plate with that same flat, focused seriousness she brought to absolutely everything - chewing like the meat had personally wronged her family and she intended to see justice done, one bite at a time.
An idea sparked, slow and mischievous, curling warm through my chest.
Wasn’t this the perfect moment to test that perfume?
I glanced sideways at her, smirking now, watching the candlelight catch along her jaw, and tapped open the Shop interface hovering in the corner of my vision.
[Passion Perfume x1 — 100 AP]
[Confirm Purchase?]
I confirmed without a second’s hesitation, and a small glass vial materialized in my palm, liquid inside shifting through shades of amber and gold like captured sunlight. I uncorked it, brought it to my lips, and tipped it back in one motion.
The taste hit sweet and floral first, then something deeper underneath, warm and slightly spiced, sliding down my throat and settling low in my chest almost immediately, spreading outward like the first sip of good whiskey on an empty stomach.
I set the empty vial down on the table and turned my full attention to Jonquil, waiting.
Nothing happened at first. She kept eating, steady, unbothered, completely oblivious.
Then her nostrils flared, subtle but unmistakable, her head lifting slightly like she’d caught a scent riding some breeze that didn’t actually exist in this warm, courtyard.
Her eyes flicked toward me, sharp and sudden, her pupils narrowing the way they had that morning in her tent right before her body half-shifted beneath me.
And then she did something I didn’t expect, at all.
