Chapter 735: That Must Be Very Painful, Right?
The sudden ring of the phone shattered the strange, somber, and oppressive atmosphere in the room.
Chloe Reed hung up, then opened her WeChat conversation with Preston Vance.
Chloe Reed: [Preston, what’s going on?]
Preston Vance: [Ann told me you were back, but that something happened. Chloe, would you be free to meet?]
Chloe Reed: [Okay.]
Preston Vance: [I’ll come pick you up then.]
Chloe Reed didn’t refuse. She then closed their chat and opened her text-to-speech app.
She looked at the text she had typed out, then deleted it bit by bit and wrote a new message.
A cold, electronic female voice sounded out, "I have something to do, so I’m going out. I’ll have someone come and stay with you."
Then, she put her phone away and turned to leave the master bedroom.
Walker Grant listened to her footsteps fade away, his head slightly bowed, a faint air of desolation surrounding him.
’What was she about to say?’
’What had she originally typed?’
’She deleted it and retyped the message.’
’Was she going to reject me, or something else?’
The unknown answer was tearing Walker Grant apart inside, yet he was also incredibly grateful for that sudden phone call. It felt like his day of reckoning had been delayed.

Preston Vance sent Chloe Reed a message when he arrived at the entrance of Jardinelle.
Chloe Reed had just finished telling the grandmother she was heading out.
Fiona Linton sidled up to her and asked, "Chloe, where are you going?"
Chloe Reed typed on her phone, which then said, "To see a friend."
Fiona Linton pouted. "Alright then. You have to come back early, okay? I’ll miss you while you’re gone."
Chloe Reed gave a small smile, nodded, and turned to leave.
Fiona Linton secretly hid behind the door and watched her get into a car. When the door opened, she saw a man’s face—handsome and scholarly-looking, with glasses.
Fiona Linton immediately turned and ran to find her grandmother, asking excitedly, "Grandma, do you think Chloe has a new boyfriend? A really handsome man came to pick her up!"
The grandmother looked at her with a helpless expression. "Stop worrying so much about others. You should be finding a boyfriend for yourself."
But Fiona Linton shook her head. "I don’t want one. It’s no fun."
"You don’t have to get married," the grandmother said, "but you should still date. Men are good for regulating your health."
Fiona Linton looked at her, astonished. "Grandma, you’re so progressive! But I can consider that."
’The union of yin and yang to regulate one’s vital energy... there is something to that in traditional Chinese medicine.’
Fiona Linton stroked her chin, a thoughtful look on her face.
The grandmother just thought the girl was fun and adorable. Having such a lively treasure by Chloe Reed’s side would surely rub some of her happiness off on Chloe.

Preston Vance looked at her, his face full of worry. "Chloe, what happened?"
Chloe Reed typed on her phone, and the cold, electronic female voice sounded out, "I was poisoned. It ruined my throat."
Pity and concern immediately filled Preston Vance’s eyes. "That must have been so painful, right?"
Chloe Reed’s expression faltered for a moment, then she gave a small smile and shook her head at him.
Preston Vance said, "Let’s go to the restaurant first. We can talk more there."
"Mm."
Chloe Reed nodded.
On the way, Preston Vance sent a text while waiting at a red light. After a moment, he looked at Chloe Reed and said, "I have a friend who’s a doctor. He’s quite an authority in this field. Would you like me to have him take a look at you?"
