Chapter 654: Father-Son Relationship
"If your father says anything harsh then, please don’t hold it against him, okay? He’s the one who’s been obsessing and refusing to move on. He doesn’t mean you any harm." Judith Pierce’s voice took on a cautious tone.
Walker Grant’s tone was indifferent. "I don’t care."
"Walker..."
But hearing him say that made Judith Pierce even more heartbroken.
’How could he not care?’
’Being treated so horribly by your own father... how could you not hold a grudge?’
The only reason Walker Grant appeared so calm was that he and Julian Grant had been close since they were children.
"Also, I was thinking of bringing your grandmother back to stay for a few days..." Judith Pierce requested.
"Impossible."
Walker Grant’s tone hardened. "Mom, what Grandma did was too much. I can’t forgive her. She’s living just fine abroad. If you want a reunion, you can go abroad to see her."
Judith Pierce fell silent.
A coldness crept into Walker Grant’s voice. "Is there anything else? If not, I’m hanging up."
Judith Pierce quickly adjusted her mood. She gave a small laugh and said, "I just wanted to chat with you a bit more. If you’re busy, we can talk when we see each other for the Spring Festival."
"Mm."
Walker Grant didn’t say anything more, and the call ended shortly after.
"Chloe?"
He immediately called out for Chloe Reed.
A cold, electronic female voice replied, "What is it?"
Walker Grant visibly relaxed. "I thought you’d left."
Chloe Reed continued typing. "I’ve been here the whole time."
"Good."
A corner of Walker Grant’s thin lips curled up, and a look of relief washed over his handsome face.
Chloe Reed looked at him, a complex expression clouding her limpid eyes for a moment.
’Walker Grant’s father...’
Just thinking of that stern, cold man made Chloe Reed shudder.
Especially after Julian Grant’s death, Mr. Grant had grown even colder, looking at Walker Grant with an icy, disgusted gaze.
It was as if he believed Walker Grant was the one who had killed Julian Grant.
Later, the atmosphere in the Grant family home became incredibly tense, so Judith Pierce convinced Walker Grant to join an international rescue team with her, using a busy life to numb their emotions.
They were gone for three years.
Judith Pierce would return once or twice a year, but Walker’s father never came back at all.
He resented Walker Grant in his heart.
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze, a bitter feeling welling up in her heart.
...
「That evening.」
Nathaniel Monroe bought a lot of food that Walker Grant and Chloe Reed loved, and he also invited Dylan Finch and Daniel Hayes over to have dinner together.
The atmosphere in the hospital room was lively.
He opened a bottle of soda and said, "Walker, when I go this time, I’ll definitely bring Fiona Linton back. Your eyes and Chloe’s voice will get treated. You two are definitely going to get better!"
Dylan Finch also said, "Mr. Grant and his wife will surely make a swift recovery."
Daniel Hayes just opened a bottle of beer and said, "Why are you drinking soda? You think you’re still a kid? C’mon, c’mon, let’s drink! Beer is where it’s at."
Unable to resist the taunt, Nathaniel Monroe immediately put down the soda bottle, grabbed a beer, and popped it open. He clinked his can against Daniel’s and said, "We’ll be counting on you for protection from now on. Mostly for Chloe. She’s the apple of Walker’s eye. We absolutely, positively can’t let anything happen to her again."
Daniel Hayes immediately slapped his chest and declared, "I swear on my life, I’ll protect lil’ sis Chloe!"
Hearing this, the corner of Nathaniel Monroe’s mouth twitched. "Since when did you start calling her that? Does Walker know about this?"
