Preston Vance raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Are you treating me to dinner?"

Chloe Reed: "..."

She blinked in confusion. ’Was that what I meant?’

But Preston Vance just smiled. "Alright, then. I’ll be waiting for you to treat me to dinner. I won’t post it on social media this time."

Chloe Reed: "..."

She sat frozen in her chair, a dazed look on her face. Preston Vance, however, was perfectly relaxed as he picked up his coffee and began to drink.

’Fine.’

’Now that he’s put it that way, how can I refuse?’

’Wouldn’t that seem too unreasonable?’

She silently picked up her coffee and began drinking as well.

The light snow had stopped at some point. A thin layer settled on the ground, then quickly vanished.

The trace of sadness in Chloe’s heart melted away with it, bit by bit, just like the snow.

Her heart returned to a state of calm.

But just then, her phone rang.

She took it out and saw it was a call from Walker Grant. Her elegant brows furrowed instantly.

Ever since she lost her voice, he had never called her. If he needed something, he would send a text.

’What’s gotten into him this time?’

Chloe immediately hung up and sent a question mark in their chat window.

’Someone is with him; they’ll surely tell him what I sent.’

But a moment later, his phone was ringing again.

A flash of resignation crossed Chloe’s clear eyes as she answered the call.

"Chloe."

The man’s deep, magnetic voice came through, colored with extreme tenderness. "I miss you."

Chloe Reed: "..."

"I’m not calling for any other reason. I just want to tell you not to forget me."

Chloe Reed: "..."

’This guy... he’s lost his mind, hasn’t he?’

’I’ve only been out for a few hours.’

’Does he have to be this dramatic?’

’And besides, is this kind of interaction even appropriate for our current situation?’

Although she had promised to stay by his side until his eyes recovered, she never intended for them to be so clingy and intimate.

They could no longer be intimately affectionate with each other without any reservations.

Chloe made a sound of acknowledgment, then hung up.

"Was that Mr. Grant calling?"

Preston Vance, sitting across from her, adjusted his glasses and asked.

Chloe Reed nodded.

Preston Vance gave a low chuckle and said, "I realized it a long time ago. Mr. Grant is a very clingy man, and also a very shrewd one. He dragged his feet on finalizing the paperwork with you before, and now that he has an excuse, I’m afraid he’s even less likely to go through with it."

He stared at her face, observing her expression. When he saw her brows furrow slightly, he asked, "What are your plans now?"

Chloe Reed picked up her phone and typed, "I will take care of him until his eyes have healed."

Preston Vance was silent for a moment, then continued, "I don’t mean anything by this, I’m just posing a hypothetical. What if he never recovers?"

At his words, Chloe’s long lashes trembled. After a moment, she typed, "Then I’ll stay with him forever and be his eyes."

Preston Vance sighed resignedly. "So it seems I don’t stand a chance anymore, do I?"

Chloe looked up at him, a hint of helplessness on her face.

Preston Vance changed the subject. "Have you taken the medicine from Mr. Aldridge? Do you feel anything?"

Chloe typed, "Traditional Chinese medicine works slowly. I have to wait for a full course of treatment."

Preston Vance nodded. "If it’s effective, you should have Mr. Aldridge take a look at him, too. Although we’re competitors now, I hope we can start on the same footing."
