Chapter 698: Try Hard to Have Another One

"Why?"

A look of confusion crossed Judith Pierce’s face.

Leaning against the headboard of his hospital bed, Walker Grant’s expression remained largely unchanged as he answered in a level tone, "I’m used to living at Jardinelle."

Judith Pierce frowned at him, finally letting out a helpless sigh. "Fine, then don’t go back. I’ll move into Jardinelle too. Walker, I won’t be at ease unless I’m there to keep an eye on you."

"Okay."

Walker Grant did not refuse.

He looked toward the door and asked, "Where’s Chloe?"

Judith Pierce’s tone turned a few degrees colder. "I don’t know. I haven’t seen her."

Fiona Linton glanced at Judith Pierce and couldn’t help but wonder.

’Aunt Jensen doesn’t seem to like Chloe very much, does she?’

’I wonder why.’

As she arranged her silver needles, she said, "Alright, let’s begin. Starting today, we’ll do this twice a day—once to detoxify and once to repair your meridians."

Walker Grant grunted in agreement.

Judith Pierce’s gaze on Fiona Linton filled with admiration. She smiled and said, "Fiona, you’ve become so skilled."

Fiona Linton smiled sheepishly. "My parents taught me everything I know. I can’t let them down."

Judith Pierce sighed wistfully. "Sometimes, I truly envy your parents for having such a wonderful and sensible daughter."

Walker Grant said drily, "Mom, you’re still young. If you and Dad give it another try, maybe you can have another one."

Judith Pierce’s expression darkened. "Walker, what are you talking about?!"

But Walker continued, "Doctor Linton is right here. If your health is an issue, you can ask her to help you get it sorted out."

Judith Pierce simply shut her mouth.

’This son of hers... all he knows is how to provoke me!’

Fiona Linton did her best to fade into the background. Even she could tell that the relationship between this mother and son was rather strained.

’What a strange family dynamic.’

...

Chloe Reed was messaging her grandmother.

Out in the hospital courtyard, a light breeze carried a faint chill. She kept her gaze lowered, her expression lost and distant.

’She would be returning to Breyburn soon.’

’How was she going to tell her grandmother that she had lost her voice?’

’Once she revealed that, she wouldn’t be able to hide the rest of what had happened.’

’Her grandmother was getting on in years. Did she really have to burden her with all this worry and sadness?’

Chloe Reed couldn’t bear the thought.

She sighed, tilting her head back to look at the darkening sky.

A moment later, the sound of light footsteps drew near.

She turned her head and saw Judith Pierce approaching, her gaze cold.

Chloe Reed tightened her grip on her phone, and then stood up.

"Have a seat."

Judith Pierce sat down beside her, her tone detached. "I know you were injured, too. How are you recovering?"

Chloe Reed typed on her phone, and a cold, electronic female voice sounded out, "I’m all right."

Judith Pierce was clearly taken aback by the voice. She frowned at Chloe Reed. "What’s on your mind? After causing such a scene before, are you really not planning to divorce Walker now?"

Chloe Reed nodded.

Judith Pierce’s frown deepened. "To be honest, I was in favor of your divorce. In fact, I wish you would both stay far, far away from each other."

Chloe Reed didn’t respond, merely lowering her gaze as her face turned a shade paler.

"You’ve dragged my son into trouble too many times. He’s nearly died because of you," Judith Pierce said, her words brutally direct as she stared at Chloe Reed. "You don’t love him, yet you insist on dragging him down with you. I just don’t understand what’s going through your head."
