Chapter 1173 - 646: The Capture Operation
Hamlet did not react to her actions last night, which instantly lowered Audrey’s opinion of the police.
This Hamlet seems different from other places, but those police are still the same useless bunch, not even having any reaction.
Panicked for a day and a night, tonight she must vent hard.
She planned to infiltrate the Lord’s Mansion tonight, placing the Blood Garment at the Lord’s bedside. The expression on his face when he sees it upon waking up would surely be entertaining.
Just thinking about this inexplicably excited her, and the flush on her face wasn’t clear if it was from slight intoxication or something else.
She quickly ended her tavern visit, and upon stepping out of the tavern, she immediately felt the noise separated by the simple portal, as if the inside and outside were two different worlds.
A slight chill of the autumn wind brushed away the alcohol fumes from her body and took away the heat, making her slightly sober up like a shiver, unable to help muttering a complaint.
"This damned weather is getting colder and colder."
Audrey planned to go back to sleep for a while and act again in the dead of night.
The tavern is only a hundred yards from the inn, but after a few steps, she seemed to sense something.
Her keen senses told her that she was being watched by some eyes. Who was targeting her?
Those police? Or those greedy mercenaries?
She suppressed the urge to look back, pretending she hadn’t noticed anything and finished the last bit of the journey, entering the inn and using the momentary cover the building provided to accelerate upstairs.
This sudden acceleration made the person at the front desk a bit puzzled, looking up but finding no one behind her.
What’s this about? Going outside for diarrhea?
Audrey didn’t care about that, the first thing up the stairs was not returning to her room, but instead heading to the end of the corridor to another room.
She pressed close to the door and confirmed within two or three seconds that no one was inside, even though she already knew the room was empty, having seen that person at the tavern earlier.
Smoothly opened the room door, unlocking faster than listening for voices, the lock on the door seemed nonexistent before her.
Why choose this room?
Because she had already observed the surroundings when booking the room, the windows of several rooms in the back row of the inn could lead to the backyard, and over the backyard wall was a rarely tread alley.
From the alley, only a short distance was needed to loop around and view the inn from the other side, and she wanted to see who was causing her trouble!
Audrey’s body was as nimble as a black cat, climbing out the window of the room. The ledge was four or five yards above the ground, yet she showed no hesitation, swinging downwards with her hands grabbing the edge, landing quietly.
Glancing at the inn’s closed back door, she quickly ran and easily vaulted over the wall, striding rapidly down the deserted path.
The empty, dark alley enveloped by night did not instill fear in her in the slightest, instead providing an inexplicable sense of security, as if the night was her veil.
The rush of blood made Audrey feel incredibly comfortable, even quickening her pace, with everything around her within her perception.
As long as it’s night, no one can catch her.
But suddenly, she sensed something, a silhouette stood in the dark alleyway ahead, as if waiting for her.
This immediately put Audrey on edge, without time to think, without a moment’s hesitation, she turned and ran, speeding up even more.
However, having only run a few steps, the clattering of boots on brick from behind was incredibly clear, with a figure quickly emerging, whose graceful posture gave Audrey a sense of pressure.
Blocked front and back, Audrey halted, choosing the buildings to the sides of the alley as her escape route, as long as she could climb over the wall...
Audrey instantly attempted to scale the wall, but just as she climbed it, an arrow pierced through her hat, pinning it to the wall.
If it had gone a bit lower, it would have been a headshot, frightening Audrey to fall back down, her golden hair flowing in the wind.
Instinctively seeking the source of the arrow upon landing, something caught her eye.
On a high spot of a nearby building, a cloaked figure stood silently, like a statue.
But the not-so-obvious falcon nearby, veiled by darkness, staring instantly terrified Audrey.
Those eyes, that feeling... it was the one watching her earlier.
It was actually a bird!
Am I the prey?
Audrey could no longer afford to think too much, with a wolf ahead, a tiger behind, and an eagle above. Now she had only one thought: escape alive.
Among the three, Audrey had no hesitation, running towards Laura’s direction, not to confront, but to use the shooting dead angles of the buildings for cover from aerial attacks.
Her true target was Dismas, because of the unwritten rule of the underworld: women, children, the elderly, and the church are untouchable.
The first three can mingle in the underworld and survive because they are ruthless, much like in the tavern where no one would provoke her.
As for the church... who the hell dares mess with it? The Judge will be at your doorstep in no time, not to mention that even bandits hope for heavenly salvation after death.
But why did she think Dismas was easy to mess with?
Seeing the enemy charging at her under the cover of shadows, Dismas instinctively placed his hand on the pistol at his waist, but after a brief hesitation, he let go of that choice, drawing a short sword instead.
