Chapter 1361: Blood Moon Descends (Part 2)
While the others were still in a daze, the Corruptors’ thirst for flesh drove them to bite the people around them without hesitation, like mad men.
"Ah!"
"What are you doing!"
"Get away!"
Under the Blood Moon, there was no need for torches to see those people’s grotesque faces, frenziedly biting and chewing flesh, their eyes so blood-red either from the moonlight or inherently.
Such intense chaos awakened the adventurers who were entranced by the Blood Moon, and upon witnessing the scene, they couldn’t help but curse.
"Damn it! What is this?"
"They’re eating people, it’s those cultists!"
"Insane, they’re all insane!"
Since Lance didn’t conceal the awareness of the Ascension Sect, instead needing them to take the blame, many people knew the Lord was leading a purge of the cultists, learning quite a bit from the local populace.
These adventurers were accustomed to life and death, and with weapons allowed, each was armed, even if only with a hammer, naturally leading someone to fight back in such situations.
They drew swords and slashed, swung their hammers at those mad men’s heads.
Unfortunately, they were inexperienced in dealing with cultists; injuring but unable to kill, while the Corruptors twisted further from devouring flesh, watching them truly consume people alive.
More importantly, it wasn’t just one or two; there were quite a few of these frenzied Corruptors.
"Run!"
Most people were only concerned with escaping for their lives, luckily the Corruptors were busy devouring corpses with no pursuit.
But if they were allowed to continue, it would likely lead to greater chaos.
"Everyone get out of the way!"
Suddenly a roar resounded, and a large figure clad in Heavy Armor dragged a great axe upstream to charge through.
That tank-like figure charged forward, slamming into a Corruptor, sending it flying with an exaggerated thud, shaking the whole building as if it trembled.
Smashed against the wall, you could see the humanoid body plastered onto it, the front brutally hit was bloody and fleshless, its bones crushed.
These were flesh Corruptors; if it were ordinary humans, that blow would have shattered them, truly terrifying!
Barin’s figure halted from the charge, covered in flesh and blood on the shoulder.
The other Corruptors seemed to sense the threat, abandoning the corpses they were gnawing on, instead launching an assault on Barin, three to five of them swarming over.
Barin naturally was undaunted, showing no sign of retreating even a step, swinging that huge axe, easily cleaving one in half single-handedly.
The other hand reached out, grabbing a charging monster’s head like a chick, swinging it to smash another, sending it flying.
"Fight, exhilarating!"
Barin wielded the axe in one hand and a person in the other, freely unleashing that brute force, easily suppressing several Corruptors that had emerged on the street.
Ordinarily, Lance’s Champion’s Power didn’t seem apparent, that depends on who he compared to, although Barin himself was naturally gifted, now the posture expounded the Champion’s mighty prowess.
But the situation was far from resolved; these were merely ordinary humans who had fallen into Corruption, an appetizer before the main course arrived.
Barin discarded the corpse with the crushed head, casting his gaze toward one side of the street to see that the slight delay earlier had allowed that guy to devour quite a few corpses, even peers...
The twisted flesh, randomly growing organs and features, and the distinctive black eyeballs.
Among the adventurers, there were many strong individuals, not Masters or Champions, but their Elite background and years of combat instinct were still impressive.
But unfortunately, these fellows had completely fallen into flesh Corruptors in such a short time, and more terrifying was that the trouble was they wouldn’t lose their combat instinct after Corruption, but rather that their physique had been amplified immediately after corruption.
The two sides exchanged a glance, in the next second, the monster moved first, yet Barin didn’t follow but stood like an iron tower, the blood still dripping from the left hand that crushed a head just moments ago.
As the monster approached, an arrow from nowhere struck its eye, halting its movement, this shot was almost a signal, the initially dormant Barin swung his massive axe fiercely forward.
This strike was overwhelming, an ordinary enemy would probably have been split in two like before.
However, that monster was armored in its former self’s armor, the clash with the axe blade only detonated a tremor, in the next second, it was sent flying by that imposing power.
When it finally stopped, you could see the armor had been cleaved by the massive axe, splitting half its body from the waist, all sorts of messy stuff spilled out as if from an overturned trash can, instantly everything poured out.
Just now, the axe nearly severed it completely, but this monster was blessed by the Blood Moon, showcasing exaggerated regeneration, not even needing to stuff things back into its body, growing rampantly, dragging intestines toward the felled flesh, caring neither for freshly gnawed remains nor beaten Corruptors.
Seeing this, Barin realized something, initially, the axe was coated with Corpse Decomposition Spore, but it likely wore off from hacking several earlier, or else the flesh wouldn’t heal so swiftly.
At this point, an archer came forth, firing three arrows in succession, arrows tipped with Corpse Decomposition Spores penetrating the monster’s head.
Unfazed, Barin continued charging forward with the axe, slashing it apart, then smashing the head.
The two began cleaning the body with Corpse Decomposition Spores, finally having time to reapply the agents onto the axe.
However, the constant gunfire echoing throughout the town indicated things were far from over, those were snipers occupying high ground in the town shooting, they could see the town’s chaotic situation, both sniping and guiding.
The Honor Guard that vanished into the dungeon appeared here, obviously the Lord had long prepared.
These Hamlet Champions and Heroes formed small squads, entering to hunt those Corruptors.
The army still stationed outside the town, while the police or other defense forces guarded the Lord’s assets and administrative buildings, granting anyone approaching a bullet.
"Let’s go, next one."
Barin called to his teammates toward the nearest chaotic area, only to find the fight wasn’t settled by other Honor Guards, but by the two from the Church.
Those gathered around Brother Martin surely sought Sanctuary? But most of these so-called believers dispersed in fear, leaving only the corrupted ones.
By the count, even more than before, as expected the Lord said religion was unreliable, believing in those enigmatic entities made one more easily swayed.
The Mendicant Monk wielded the Magic Wand, continuously shooting beams of lightning into those Corruptors, directly burning them into mummies.
Legendary is still Legendary; only in front of Lance did he seem timid, in other situations, he was overwhelmingly strong.
The Honor Guard knows, back then the real force enabling their retreat from the relics was the monk.
Meanwhile, the Candlelight Priest wielded a shield and hammer, blocking all Corruptors attempting to attack the monk, each strike hit one, but the efficiency was low.
Luckily Barin and his team joined the battle, sharing some of the pressure, and more arrived from elsewhere, quickly quelling the chaos.
Yet Brother Martin showed no sign of gratitude, instead questioning the newcomers.
"What on earth is your Lord doing! Is Hamlet to become a hell again?"
The Blood Moon hung high, even the Mendicant Monk dared not to utter nonsense anymore, increasingly feeling something amiss, the whole Hamlet was within the Lord’s calculation.
"We are the Lord’s Honor Guard, in this place, the Lord will only be at even more dangerous locations blood fighting, you simply don’t understand the Lord, nor Hamlet, we won’t abandon a person."
Such words caused Brother Martin to pause for a moment, if anyone else had said this to him he would have cursed back, yet he truly witnessed those people risking everything to save others, leading at the last moment, found himself at a loss for words.
Ultimately, he could only sigh.
"Can I trust you?"
"For humanity."
