Parallel World Pharmacy
Chapter 4: 10: The Truth of Hermes' Alchemy
The day has come for the gathering of suspected alchemists. To attend the rally, after work and closing the pharmacy, Ellen appeared in front of the staff dressed in men's clothes as heralded.
"Wow, Master Eleonor, it's lovely! I'm a beautiful young man. Cool!"
Lotte wants to praise him for his innocence.
"Really? That's why I took the picture, Lotte."
"Ha! Let's take lots of pictures!
Ellen wore boots up to her knees, feathering a long cloak of length and wearing a felt tricorne (triangular hat). He also looks like a beautiful young man with long hair in his hat, boneless nose glasses and a mustache.
Side by side with the two people who put on the pose and started taking photos, Pharma makes an easy disguise.
(Didn't Ellen just want to cosplay? You look great though)
Rin stands out, but Pharma's impression is so.
"Hey, hey, nice to meet you today."
The pharmacy door was opened and an old gentleman appeared who came in knowingly.
"Who?"
"Ha ha, it's me"
Pierre has worn glasses and worn a gray-haired wig to disguise himself. Look, I don't know who it is.
"Oh, is that all Farma has to say?
Lotte rounds her eyes.
"Farma, I don't feel motivated by your disguise."
Ellen also looks sinister. Pharma, on the other hand, was wearing a robe with a mask and a hood deep in his eyes.
"Nothing. I just need to find out."
He is rational.
"Hmm, you find out? Why don't you try it and walk right down the street? If they don't notice, you can go with it."
After a while, Pharma, who left the pharmacy, returned. Take the hood, look embarrassed.
"Why did you find out?
"Have you been called all over?
"Yeah. About ten people called me"
Pharma looked in the hand mirror and was seriously necked.
"It's too cluttered. The disguise... we have to try to find out a little bit more."
Ellen is frightened and speechless.
"You have no choice, Mr. Farma. Is that what this is about, Lotte, your personal clothes, lend them to you?
"What!? What do you mean, it's a woman's outfit?
Lotte panics more than Pharma.
And it also created an atmosphere where I saw something scary.
"It's disguise. I like the clothes you're wearing at the mansion, I'm tired, so lend them to me."
Lotte puts Ellen's hand on Farma's shoulder. The height difference between Pharma and Lotte has become slightly more recent and flickering, but skirts can be worn even if they are slightly smaller in size.
"There's something bigger, I'll lend it to you!
Lotte betrayed her soberly.
"Stop -!
"I have no choice, Master Farma. I'll help you get dressed!
Farma's resistance made Lotte change her clothes.
Usually dressed in Pharma as a servant at the Mansion, Lotte knows the size of Pharma's body. They wore a perfectly sized servant apron dress.
"You can't do this."
I wondered if they made me wear Lotte's clothes in no time, when I was ready, Ellen would put on a hat and a wig with long hair, and part-time pharmacists would quickly apply makeup.
"Oh no, Mr. Farma... you're so cute. Beautiful girl?"
Lotte also agrees by shaking her head vertically. Pharma, however, was plucked.
"It sucks. Are you such an alchemist's apprentice? It's like saying," Skirt. "
It is Pharma's feeling that the alchemist wearing the skirt is mogul. The first thing I want to do is do alchemy with a skirt with barefoot feet. I can't have it. Because chemists who deal with dangerous drugs should not have their skin out to protect themselves.
"Oh, it's okay, do you want to take a look in the mirror?
"I don't want to see it"
Farma shook her head with all her might. Lotte just took a picture of the two of them.
"Stop - I'll take it!
"Pity, Dear Farma..."
Pierre showed all the sympathy in form as he bit off his laughter.
"Okay, that's it. Let's go."
It is a much tired pharma before I go.
Riding Pierre's carriage, a line of three alchemists heads to a rally venue named the Alchemy Study Group. They say the rally will take place in a large building on the outskirts of Imperial Capital. Pharma and Pharma looked away as the alchemists and pharmacists gathered were stopped at the underground entrance to the building of the venue and collected their dues to go inside.
Would thirty people have gone in, even if they had just been observing for a short time? I see it as thriving.
"You're thriving. How much is the dues?
Pharma asks Pierre in a low voice. Pierre breaks his finger to indicate the amount.
"Oh, do you take that much? Yet so thriving and..."
"It's this amount just for the admission fee, the secret sale is more expensive. It's okay, because I've been putting the money down. I'll take care of this."
The price was too high and Pierre was in tears.
Pierre tells me that he collects expensive dues by calling them study groups. But they don't have many pharmacists and alchemists who are in the study group even after bankruptcy.
He says he is mastering the sage stone synthesis method, grabbing a lot of money and reversing one shot, betting on.
"I'll pay for this place."
Farma gave Pierre the price for three. I'll take Ellen's share.
"My share is fine, Mr. Farma. I'm not in trouble for money."
"I know that, but I invited you, so I'll pay for it"
It was Pharma trying to show his manhood oddly.
"Really? Thanks. Well, thank you very much."
"Hey, I'm sorry about this"
Pierre joyfully tied his wallet hippo tightly, it just went away. He looked relieved.
"Well, here we go."
About Pierre, the Pharmas also head to the venue.
"Good evening, do you still want to come in?
Pierre crouches down and greets the collector of the admission fee.
"We're almost there. Show me the alchemist's badge."
Like the other alchemists, Pierre took out his chest badge to show it. The authentic badge has a registration number.
"These men have no badges, but they are disciples. Let him in to study. The entrance fee shall be paid for three persons"
Pierre answered with nothing to eat face and paid the price with the money handed to Pharma earlier.
Pharma and Ellen nod modestly, yes. Just to be discreet.
(It's called Ellen's men's costume, the opposite of my women's costume. You're a suspicious group. This!
The collector looked at Pharma and Ellen's face up close and giddy, but let them in, and gave them permission.
I can't believe I'm worried about Pharma.
"Is that it?"
"You see, I can afford it."
Ellen said well to Pharma, who wore a shoulder watermark. They didn't even tell me to take my hat.
The basement venue was a large monument, and although countless candles were burning, overall the lighting was dark. Alchemists are stuffed in the hall.
Few Pharma and Pierre's know, pharmacist guild pharmacists, but no one noticed the Pharmas. It is an occasional disguise. When Pharma cleared her ears, she heard voices around her.
"Master Hermes is really great. And you're selling me secrets. How generous."
Hermes. What an alchemist-like name, with that in mind, Farma hears even more.
"Some magicians have bought Hermes secrets and have succeeded in alchemy."
Farma, who had been stealing and listening to such stories,
(Alchemists prefer the darkness to show off their alchemy, and they don't show their skill during the day, which is sort of a classic, right?)
In some cases, the lighting may also make the mercury look like gold.
If you string up Earth history, there was actually that kind of alchemy scam.
If you just listen to that story, it smells like fraud, I think so, Pharma, but you can't totally suspect it's fraud. Anyway, it's a world of divinity. As with Pharma, it is not surprising at all that there are alchemists with unknown abilities like material creation.
On time, the alleged alchemist appeared.
The man who has entered with his disciple's female alchemist is a man in a vermilion robe and wearing a white mask.
"Why is the master wearing a mask?
Pierre asked the alchemist next door.
"Because real alchemy that produces gold like hot water is dangerous, if you know your identity, you'll be targeted by thieves from all over the country. Because the value of money can change, the state won't let go either, because the art of hiding its face is real."
"I see."
Can't you just show your face because it's a fraud? and Ellen suspected.
"Master Hermes, please"
"I counted the eighth, welcome to the Alchemy Study Group. It's an honor to have so many magicians here tonight."
He was a gentle tone man. But Pharma, who heard that voice...,
(Hmm...? That's a voice I've heard... where did you hear that?)
But I can't remember where I heard it. I twist my neck wondering if I've been to the pharmacy before.
"Is he a civilian? You sound like a nobleman."
Ask Pierre if Ellen also wondered.
"Yes. Sounds like a theological user... though I don't know who he is. Because of the lack of sympathy in the words, they see him as a nobleman from the Imperial City. But due to the intense obsession with money, I was wondering if it might be a downstream nobleman."
Upstream aristocrats are less obsessed with gold, but more obsessed with territorial expansion. For that reason, Pierre was treading that he would be a downstream nobleman.
"For once, you're hiding who you are."
"I wonder if you're aware you're scamming. If you're such an amazing alchemist, you'll show your grandeur your secrets in front of His Majesty the Emperor, and you'll be protected by the Empire, won't you?
"Now we will do the alchemy from the stone and lead of the wise"
The demonstration of alchemy began. Hermes had his female assistant bring him a red mineral called the stone of the great sage. If you crush it, it's red minerals all the way inside. Illuminated by the flames, it was suspiciously shining like a ruby.
The audience becomes obsessed with Hermes' every step of the way.
"As you can see, even if you break it, it's red all the way inside. Now dissolve the sage's stone, add lead and let it react. The stone of the wise makes matter better."
That said Hermes heats its minerals in a glass distiller and cools the steam to liquid metal.
Farma, watching how it was, noticed the smell of sulphur, which had begun to drift flutter.
(Isn't Hermes' sage stone cinnabar?)
Pharma was almost certain.
Chenshan refers to mercury sulphide (HgS), which can remove sulfur and mercury if heated.
If the hypothesis is correct, mercury should be produced by heating.
"That's Tatsu-San, not Sage's Stone, isn't it?"
Pharma sneaks up on Pierre and asks, but Pierre has her eyes closed.
"What is that?
"It's a sulfur and mercury compound. You see, mercury is mined in that state."
Then Ellen laughed like she was in trouble.
"Mercury is something that can be made of liquid, not such red crystals. How come silver mercury comes out of the red crystals?
The state of natural mercury, that is, what can be picked with liquid, Ellen argues.
"Really..."
(Well, sometimes you can mine with liquid... that's how this world picks mercury. The output situation isn't the same as on Earth.)
"Well, now the stone of the wise has melted. Have you got a magician with lead?"
Every time, they have a few magicians who bring lead in an attempt to have it turned into gold.
"Use this lead, I guess you'll get the money you could!?
"Yeah, I'll give it to you."
Hermes tried to get into the stone of the sage, which had become liquid, and the lead in the indentation.
"Show me inside the rutsubo."
A voice rose from the venue.
"You're welcome."
To make sure there was nothing in the rutsubo, he made the alchemists who were in front of him reveal themselves well.
"Nothing..."
"You can add the sage stone and lead"
Where the venue regains silence again, Hermes puts the ingredients into the herring.
"I'm taking the money out now. I don't touch a finger on a rutsubo like it's gold."
Hermes started lighting and heating the bumps.
And he casts a spell somehow, and he doesn't abandon it.
(You're just casting a spell. That's not divine)
Pharma understands that Hermes' chanting chant was not divine, if not activating. I may be a theological user, but I didn't use theology on this occasion.
Hermes' chant continues as the alchemists spit and watch.
A short time has passed.
"You there, help me"
Hermes instructs the old alchemist, who was in front of him, to lean against the audience using something like fire scissors. He followed Hermes' instructions.
"Here, here?
"I'll tilt it and have a good look inside, see"
When the flames went out, there were large spoonfuls of gold in the rutsubo.
"Thus, we have succeeded in smelting gold"
Hermes told the audience well. More cheers arouse.
"Master Hermes is a genius! He's a great sage!
"A true alchemist! It's twice as much gold as the lead you put in there."
The alchemists are heartbroken, the praises fly, and the applause does not stop ringing.
There are no alchemists who have succeeded in alchemy, East and West now. There is enthusiasm inside the venue.
"What do you say, Master Farma?"
Pierre, who had no clue, asked for Pharma. Pharma is
"Mercury flies with heating, so naturally it disappears, but you didn't know why you could do gold from heated mercury..."
I suspected that there was a mixture in the mercury, but the mercury sulfide and the stone of the wise man were heated, and the mercury obtained by distillation is pure.
That, because I was putting it in a glass flask, can't be mixed unless I applied something to the glass flask wall. Assuming there was a mixture, impurities would remain in the rubi.
But there was nothing but gold at the bottom of Rutsubo.
(Hmm... it wasn't even a nickname, and there wasn't anything in the rutsubo)
Pharma groans in arms. There are more tangles and tricks than there were using divine art.
In one way or another, Pharma's sensory proximity to seeing through Magic's Tane rather than uncovering secrets.
"So that sage stone produces gold from nothing, is it real?
Makes Ellen squint like he's unconvinced, etc.
"Very incredible..."
Pierre nodded as well.
"I don't know, I think a sage stone is mercury sulfide."
The two of them soon almost believed in the existence of the stone of the wise, but Pharma disagrees.
(You didn't know at first glance. But to see the shape of the gold that has been precipitated, I'm pretty sure it melted once. Was it dissolved in mercury)
Gold dissolves in mercury and makes a mercury compound called amalgam.
If you heat that mercury compound, the gold amalgam, the mercury will turn into steam and fly, and the gold will remain.
And a lot of mercury vapor should have been scattered at that time.
"" Mercury Erase ""
Farma kept the aftermath of the pollutants scattered in the venue on behalf of Hermes.
Inhaling mercury vapor is very unlikely. Knowing no such circumstances, Hermes was bathing in a storm of praise.
"Some of you may think this way. It's money."
Hermes chuckled invincibly, throwing words that the alchemists who were on the spot would be holding onto his throat. Some of the alchemists were half-hearted.
"Do you have a magician who wants to make sure that you have money? Check it out."
When Hermes looked over at the venue, what a Pierre raised his hand.
"You can use a prototype stone, right?
Pierre, who is also an alchemist, is ready around the time he brings the litmus. A test metal stone is an ore used to purify gold. When gold is rubbed onto a prototype stone, the colour varies according to its purity. Gold is known as gold.
"Of course, sir."
Hermes could afford it. Pierre deliberately polished the surface of the gold, rubbing the gold on the trial stone of a brand new surface that had come from within, and found that gold was indeed formed. It wasn't the highest purity, but the problem is we just have to refine it back.
It makes sense that we have money.
"Maybe it's just gold on the surface, can I crack the gold"
As Pierre pulled back, other alchemists advanced. Some people suspected it was thick plating.
"I don't mind. Specific gravity may be applied."
Divided by a knife, a stunning brilliant gold appeared from the inside.
"It's gold indeed...!
"We've got gold out of the sage's stone and lead...! Sell me that secret!
There were no more doubters.
"If you just found out that the sage stone is real and want to buy the sage stone synthesis secret, please offer to my disciple later. Offer a little cheaper for everyone who joins us tonight"
Hermes is already in sales talks.
"I'll buy it."
"The sage stone is real!
There was not one or two magicians who had come to grip the gold coin without, as if it were not all property.
"What are you going to do, Mr. Farma? You never meant it was real, did you?
Ellen can't even disprove it.
It is a scene where a large number of victims are about to be born, but Farma lacks a decision-maker.
"I'm going to go check it out nearby because I have some concerns. Before they destroy the evidence."
Pharma told Ellen and Pierre that he would then sew between the audiences and step forward.
An assistant was about to clean up the apparatus used for the demonstration, and Farma's dressed servant-style pretty girl moved forward.
"I wonder what's wrong, young lady"
Hermes notices and looks back to Pharma.
"Again, could you show me the rutsubo?
Pharma spoke to Hermes. Use the highest possible back voice. Farma, who was only twelve years old and had not changed her voice, spoke in a woman's language because of that concern, and did not find out that she was a boy if she used her back voice. Even Pierre and Ellen, who knew the circumstances, were so uncomfortable.
"Oh, fine."
(The surface of the rutsubo, it's the porosity of the skull.)
Pharma glanced at the fine area and tried to tap the rubi lightly with a fire bass. Then the sound changed depending on where I slapped him. I had the feeling Pharma expected.
(Ha ha... I see)
"Something bothering you? Earlier, Rutsubo was revealed by other magicians."
Observing Hermes, who asks slightly sooner, Farma asks with deepening suspicion.
"Yeah, right, it seemed like it was my fault. Looks like there's still some left over liquid metal extracted from the sage's stone, so can't you just show me one more great secret?
Pharma rehearses Hermes as he whispers.
"No matter how many times you do it, it's just the same result, you can do it, but let me get you a new one"
Hermes laughed at Pharma. I know it sounded like bullshit from my ignorant alchemist's brother-in-law, but Farma wasn't laughing or anything.
"No, it doesn't matter if it's one of these."
Farma did not miss that Hermes' gaze, visible from the mask, swam a little. With a similar one, you shouldn't be able to reproduce it again. Pharma knew that.
"My prediction is, we can't afford any more money with this kind of bump"
"Out of the way, young lady. Soothe."
From the audience, a booming flew into Pharma.
"Kids don't come forward, it's the same thing you saw the same technique. Let me see your next move."
"Look, hiccup!
Pharma was caught grabbing the root by one of the hazy men. At that time, Falma returned to the place where Ellen and the others were, gently following the inner wall of the pinned hair.
"Sure, the study group has limited time, it's a waste of time. Let's go to the next secret, and I'll show you Homunculus next."
Hermes coughed and proceeded with the show. He didn't have a heart or even seemed relieved. Homunculus is a spectacle that can be considered the highlight of this event.
"I'm home."
"You figured something out?
Ellen asks.
"" Lead Erase ""
Pharma checked the condition of the residue left in the pin. And..., I said it openly.
"Almost. Okay."
"What!? Can you explain that to me?
The bottom surface of the rutsubo was a skull with open holes.
In this case, mercury has a very strong surface tension, so it would not go into the hole even if it were supposed to go into the bulb. Except if there was a high density of metal such as gold powder or lead under the hole. I go in the hole so I can suck it in.
Gold powder and lead, or alloys thereof, were pre-filled in the lucidum.
When mercury is added, it flows from an empty hole in the bottom into the cavity, creating amalgams (alloys) of lead, gold and mercury in the hole.
Heating there. This amalgam melts and liquefies at low temperatures. In the liquefied state, by tilting the lump, the gold lead amalgam emerges from the lump hole.
Lead, which has become lead oxide by heating, is absorbed into the surface of the indentation depending on the hair tube phenomenon, but remains in the indentation of gold.
And mercury becomes steam and flies by heating, nothing goes away.
"... so there will remain gold in the Rutsubo"
"It was...! I had no idea what to explain along the way though!
Earlier, when Pharma tapped the fire scissors and pinned the interior, the bottom had a void and was adsorbed onto the surface of the lead scissors.
"It's a hypothesis, but if you demonstrate it again, you'll see."
Hermes didn't lump up here, and it would be nice to let him swim until the next rally, Farma thought.
"Well, what do we do now"
This is the best way to prepare the next one and have it re-demonstrated.
As it is now, they run away without proof.
(That's very elaborate for a scam)
and Pharma, while impressed, was not going to leave him alone in the wild.
In order not to produce any more victims......
"So let's take a look at Homunculus and go home"
