However, no matter how much the assistant shook or pushed him, the wasp-disease patient lying on the ground just wouldn’t wake up.

The assistant, who was feigning sleep, opened her eyes slightly. She sneakily watched the corpses that had gotten off the morgue slabs, now chatting and joking boisterously in the distance. My god, that wasp-disease patient was right. This morgue really is packed... she thought.

Before long, the bodies that were supposed to be dead had gotten off their slabs and completely taken over the morgue. What surprised the assistant even more was that under the white sheets, there wasn’t just one body per slab. Some held two, three, or even four corpses. They acted just like living people, chatting casually and cracking jokes with each other.

As the voices of the dead grew louder, a sleeping Lili was suddenly startled awake. She stared at the scene before her, unsure if it was a dream or reality. "What the heck is going on?" she exclaimed. "Where am I? I clearly remember being in the morgue... but this place looks like a flea market! Where did all these people come from? And they’re all sorts—young and old, men and women..."

Just then, Yu Lan also woke up. Covering her mouth in fright, she whispered to Lili, "Lili, we’ve really stumbled into a ghost den..."

Lili pinched herself. Realizing it wasn’t a dream but terrifyingly real, she quickly shook Zhao Rong. "Zhao Rong, this is bad! All these corpses have reanimated! What should we do? Should we run, or should we keep pretending to be asleep?"

Before Zhao Rong could stir, Xuelian also woke up. Finding the scene bizarrely thrilling, she began recording with her phone. "Oh my god," she marveled. "This is just like one of those ghost movies I’ve seen... it’s actually happening to me! Looks like I was destined to be a horror movie heroine..."

Just then, Zhao Rong was shaken awake as well. When he saw the scene before him, however, he just chuckled and began to lie back down. "Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian, go back to sleep," he said calmly. "There’s nothing to see here. No need to be scared."

When Lili saw Zhao Rong remain as unshakable as a mountain in the face of so many reanimated corpses, she was baffled. "Zhao Rong," she said, "not only have we fallen into a ghost den, but we’re surrounded by reanimated corpses! Aren’t you scared at all?"

Xuelian also grabbed his arm, trying to pull him up. "Zhao Rong, with all these ghosts around, aren’t you worried they’ll pounce on us and kill us?"

Yu Lan hurriedly pulled the Monster-Reflecting Mirror from her pocket and aimed it at the reanimated corpses. "I’ll find out what kind of demons and ghouls you really are!" she declared.

As the three women panicked, Zhao Rong whispered, "Ladies, don’t be afraid. These people aren’t actually dead."

When the three women heard Zhao Rong claim that the reanimated corpses weren’t actually dead, they asked in disbelief, "Zhao Rong, are you saying... these people are all alive?"

Zhao Rong smiled. "From the moment I stepped into this morgue, I knew. All these so-called dead people are alive."

Hearing this, Lili was stunned. "What do you mean, Zhao Rong?" she asked, completely baffled. "How did you know they were alive and not dead?"

Zhao Rong told her, "Lili, do you really think that in a warm, humid, bacteria-filled environment like this, a corpse could go for years without decaying?"

Lili pointed to the nearby wasp-disease patient. "But didn’t he say he had some ’mummy preservative’ that he sprinkled on the bodies to keep them from decaying?"

Zhao Rong pulled a Preservative Authenticity Identifier from his pocket. "Unbeknownst to you three," he said with a smile, "I picked up a tiny grain of that so-called ’mummy preservative’ off the floor and tested it. Any guesses as to what that stuff the guy was holding really is?"

Yu Lan’s eyes widened. "You mean the wasp-disease patient’s mummy preservative is fake?"

Xuelian stared in disbelief. "Fake, real... real, fake... I can’t tell what’s what anymore..."

At that moment, Zhao Rong sat up straight. "The so-called ’mummy preservative’ that the wasp-disease patient was holding," he told the three women, "was actually just a packet of instant noodle seasoning."

Hearing this, the three women immediately shot their gaze toward the wasp-disease patient, who was still pretending to be asleep nearby. Then, they turned back to Zhao Rong and asked, "Zhao Rong, why would he use instant noodle seasoning to fake a mummy preservative and trick us?"

Zhao Rong exposed the man’s charade. "Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian, there’s more you don’t know. It’s not just the ’mummy preservative’ that’s fake—the patient himself is a fake. He’s not a wasp-disease patient at all. He’s an assassin sent by Wang Jingang."

Before Zhao Rong could finish, the ’wasp-disease patient’ suddenly kipped up from the floor. He whipped a knife from his waist and instantly pressed it to the assistant’s throat. "Damn it!" he snarled, threatening Zhao Rong and the three women. "I never thought this kid Zhao Rong would see through my grand deception at a glance! Luckily, I earned the assistant’s trust and slipped her a knockout drug. Now I have a hostage, so the four of you will do exactly as I say... or I’ll chop her head off right now!"

Seeing that the ’wasp-disease patient’ was indeed an imposter, the three women instantly understood everything.

At that moment, the other figures who had been pretending to be corpses also dropped their facade. They pulled out an arsenal of weapons—machetes, axes, Wolf Fang Clubs, daggers, bayonets, and Triangular Military Spikes—and gathered behind the lead assassin, menacingly facing Zhao Rong’s group.

"So what if the kid spotted our grand plan?" one of them sneered. "He still walked right into our trap! In this morgue, everyone besides you four works for Wang Jingang. All together, we can easily kill the four of you right here!"
